Catholics don’t worship statues either, they are reminders. Kinda like a person kissing a photo of his kids.

Now we have to tell the Japanese to stop worshipping each other since they bow to one another.
LOL Yeah and I know for a fact Protestants worship their beds. For more on this shocking exposé on Protestant “bedolatry” I present to you the following pictures.

http://roxalanagt.org/children praying.jpg

These children think they are praying to “God,” but they are clearly bowing before the bed, making supplications unto it and worshipping it! I’ve seen many Protestants do this, even though I keep telling them please stop or they will not be “saved”.

And what of this young girl, with the blasphemous bunny idol she has set up as another god set before our Lord?! Her parents have brainwashed her into worshipping the bunny idol instead of our Lord Jesus Christ. The poor girl doesn’t know any better. But she will not be saved anyway! Woe unto ye, I say… WOE unto ye, bedolaterers… repent, for the time is at hand!!

http://bestsmileys.com/cats1/24.gif And hi to you!
I noticed a similer question on this forum, and while it is a good one I have to answer NO, I don’t favor Paul over Jesus. I also don’t recall hearing anything about Paulian devotion going on among Protestants. This also prompted me to ask a similer question to Catholics.

Do Catholics with all the Marion devotion, favor Mary over Jesus?
Thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut.
No. But then, she does not have any books in the Bible from which I borrow heavily in my interpretations of Christ’s message. So, I don’t see the comparison to the original thread.

OMG! that cracked me up!:rotfl:

Don’t members of some oriental cultures bow to one another as an outward sign of respect?

All bowing in reverence is not worship.

Indeed, some bowing in reverence is not even religious.

NonDenom you seem too smart to make such an obvious gaffe.

Hi Nondenom,
I’ve been on both sides (former Non-Denom) myself and I can tell you that if you’re worried that your Catholic brothers & sisters in Christ are favoring Mary over Jesus then let me put your mind at ease.

No.

Not a bit. In fact, since I’ve been Catholic for about 5 months now I can honestly tell you that I’ve only occasionally heard a brief refrence to Mary in mass (our Church “service”) asking her to pray for us. That’s it. It’s honestly all about Jesus. And WOW to Catholics have Jesus down pat - have you ever been a mass? I’d highly encourage you to come. It is so awesome - the most reverent, holy time worshiping Christ I’ve ever experienced.

(And to be fair - Protestants don’t favor Paul over Christ. That’s silly as well. But from my experience we did spend alot more time studying Paul’s letters than we did the gospel accounts.)

Were you shocked at all at first. There is a lot of tradition there. it is a lot to take in the first time isn’t it?

i find that the mass reveals itself more and more as time goes by. it is a living thing.

It is alot to take in… but I think what struck me most about mass was how Biblical and beautiful - and holy it seemed. It wasn’t about the cool worship songs - or a catchy sermon meant to apply to “where I’m at in my spriritual walk” or anything even remotly meant to entertain me. For me it was all about Jesus - and I truly felt that what I was experiencing was what Christians for centuries had experienced. It made me feel connected to something so much bigger than anything I had ever been a part of before. I mean there I was… in Jesus’ Church. What more can be said?

I agree. (I’m another convert). What a great way to say it. You mind if I borrow it when talking to Catholics with one foot out the door?

I keep remembering all those dear Free Methodist, Wesleyan Methodist, & Baptist Christians of my childhood who spent every Wednesday evening in church, worshipping the:bowdown: pews!!!
Yes, every one of them bowed down to the** pews** to pray!!..I suppose that there is some distinction between that and the Sacred Bunny Rabbit. I confess that I can’t see it.
Woe, woe, WOE unto the wicked, idolatrous :bowdown:pew worshippers!!

(Imagine here about 20 or so ROTFL smilies)…Sheeshhh!!!

YES! I feel that way at mass. and for some strange reason more so at the early morning mass with like 5 retired folk there singing hymns. it is so intimate and i feel that this is a timeless tradition. MUCH bigger than me or anything else in the world.

A friend of mine who is revert told me once that she loved her bible church and that she learned alot form it but she felt that on Sundays she just wanted to worship she said that she really just wanted to worship our Lord and she just wasn’t getting that from her bible church, so she came back home.

When she told me that I just stopped and thought for a second Yes that is what we we do on Sunday and I LOVE it!

Just I thought I would just add that in!

:hmmm:

I thought it was a reference to this: 😦

Filipino Bishops tell Catholics not to crucify themselves during Holy Week

The Church in the Philippines is appealing to the faithful not to crucify themselves during Holy Week.
It says it doesn’t support the Lent ritual of people nailing themselves to a cross.

Many Filipino people whip themselves with blades. Some are nailed to crosses to repent for their sins.

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) secretary-general Monsignor Hernando Coronel said: “We are in fact discouraging those practices. They are a misrepresentation of our Catholic faith.”

According to the Philippine Star, he told the Catholic station Radio Veritas the ritual, meant to commemorate the suffering and death of Christ, has become a tourist attraction and not a genuine act of penance.

“Tourists normally flock to places where people have themselves crucified during Holy Week,” he said.
Monsignor Coronel advises those who want to repent for their sins to go to a priest and confess.

Thank you, Michael, for that explanation. I didn’t know that happened. (Yuck).

I don’t know how Ricardo fits that into the subject, though.

The pictures from Gottle of Geer’s site say Easter but Ricardo said “Dec/12”.

We have several posters of Philippino ancestry and at least one member who lives in the Philippines. They could probably shed some light on the practice of mortification shown in the pictures.

I don’t know why Ricardo interjected the topic into this thread either. http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/5.gif

I heard people asking me, “What the heck are you talking about”. I also have read some others’ confusion on the subject, but the question remains, do some Catholics favor Mary over Jesus?

Of course, some of them/us do. For example, Della wrote: “true worship means offering up a sacrifice of some sort.” In direct connection to her quotation and as stated quite a few times, Dec/12 is the day Latin America celebrates the day of our Virgin Mother. The celebration consists of sacrifices, which range from simple abstinence (from drinking & smoking) to physical pain. As a consequence of this pain, the practicioners suffer from mutilations in most of the cases. But what is so special about Dec/12?

December is the twelfth month of the year, which is why we/them celebrate on 12/12 the day of our Virgin Mother. It is not a coincidence that the chapter 12 of the book of Revelation talks about her.

In conclusion, the answer to the question is yes there are some cultures/communities who do favor Mary over Jesus in their ways of worship, and the protestant are well aware of it because in many cases that is the reason they left our church in the first place. That we need to inform the practicioners of the position the Vatican has taken on the subject is a fact, but that there a lot of Catholic people who simply denies the existence of the pratice, it’s a fat and sad true.
