given in virtue of the work of the New Adam and–subordinate to Him-- the New Eve
God is not limited to agency through his creatures in the giving of the gift of grace but may utilize it. A creature has causal effects possible only after their creation, although God is omniscient so is not limited like creatures.

Dear Greenfields,

Thanks for your love of Jesus through Mary, and your love for our Mother which prompts you to speak of her dignity as Mother of God. May we all continue to grow in God’s graces given through Mary, His Mother whom He gave to us from His Cross.

Dear Debbie,

Thanks so much for your post and the beautiful witness your Mother is to all of us. St. Louis de Montfort wrote that Jesus and Mary are never “outdone” in generosity. I believe, with you and your Mother in the very powerful intercession of Mary. My Mother too had great devotion to Our Lady and also devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Yes, the fullness of Truth subsists in the Catholic Church. I truly feel sorry for anyone who has not come closer to Mary our Mother. I agree with you that no human person ever loved Jesus more and so it is Mary’s great joy to share her Son’s love with us. She brings Jesus to all – even those who do not recognize her in this life on earth. One day they will know the fullness of God’s Truth in sending Jesus and all His graces through Mary.

Next month, November, is a time for us to remember all our Faithful Departed. May Perpetual Light shine on your Mother and all our deceased Mothers, Fathers, relatives, and friends. May their souls and the souls of all the Faithful Departed, rest in peace. Amen.

The most important thing to change, as one poster
ventured is ME, I am the worst enemy of a glorified
Church, holy and blameless( Eph. 5:25-27) But how
is this done? By encouraging one another in the Way
of the Cross and forgiving and praying for one another.
I sense the need for MORE fellowship and account-
ability among members.

Tsk tsk tsk. I dont have to read every post to see the need of good ol fashion faith! Is it not a virtue. Not everything is written.
Peace

Thats the way I see. Going to Our Lady and asking for intercession should not be discounted. Granted Mary is the Mediatrix; but our Lord, the Trinity: thats the gold mine from which all things flow.
Peace

Dear GLAM1761,

Thanks for your reply, certainly, all of us need to examine our own consciences. As you said, each of us needs to look at what God wants to change in “Me”, and how do we cooperate? Our sources of Truth are from God Who is Truth. He sent His only Begotten Son to us by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of a Woman. He didn’t need Mary for He is God and could have sent Jesus to us any way He chose but God willed to send Jesus through Mary. God chose Mary to bring Jesus to us. The Word was made flesh in the womb of Mary. Pondering the wonder of the Incarnation, we begin to understand how “necessary” God has made Mary in His Plan of salvation for us.

Your reference to Ephesians is a beautiful one, for it speaks the Truth of the Body of Christ, His Church. Mary gave birth to Jesus physically but she is our Mother in the order of grace. As Mother and Model for the Church she shows us the wonderful things God has done in and through her – a simple human person – in order that we might see the holiness to which we are also called in Christ.

As John Paul II says, Mary is present in the mystery of Christ even before the creation of the world. So just as the Father can give graces in view of the foreseen merits of the New Adam, the same applies to our Mother, the New Eve.

As a doctor of the Church, St. Alphonsus Liguori affirms in The Glories of Mary–quoting other saints–the world was created and forgiven for the sake of God’s Mother. This makes sense since God’s decree of the Incarnation and Mary’s election as the Mother of God are one and the same decree (Vatican II)

And of course God could have chosen to give graces without Mary’s mediation. But He chose to do everything through Mary, subordinate to Jesus. According to the Church, every grace is given through Mary, who is given to every single individual from the Cross to be his Mother.

For example, Pope Leo XIII writes in the Encyclical Iucunda Semper:

"Thus is confirmed that law of merciful meditation of which We have spoken, and which St. Bernardine of Siena thus expresses: “Every grace granted to man has three degrees in order; for by God it is communicated to Christ, from Christ it passes to the Virgin, and from the Virgin it descends to us.”

Me too. I find myself so many times just about to fall into a serious sin, but my Mother intervenes just in time, just like an earthly Mother would keep her toddler from falling

Pope Leo XIII writes:

Thus do those whose actions have disturbed their consciences need an intercessor mighty in favour with God, merciful enough not to reject the cause of the desperate, merciful enough to lift up again towards hope in the divine mercy the afflicted and the broken down. Mary is this glorious intermediary; she is the mighty Mother of the Almighty; but-what is still sweeter - she is gentle, extreme in tenderness, of a limitless loving-kindness. As such God gave her to us. Having chosen her for the Mother of His only begotten Son, He taught her all a mother’s feeling that breathes nothing but pardon and love…

All men, moreover, are filled with the hope and confidence that petitions which might be received with less favour from the lips of unworthy men, God will accept when they are recommended by the most Holy Mother, and will grant with all favours. The truth and the sweetness of these thoughts bring to the soul an unspeakable comfort; but they inspire all the more compassion for those who, being without Divine faith, honour not Mary and have her not for their mother; for those also who, holding Christian faith, dare to accuse of excess the devotion to Mary, thereby sorely wounding filial piety.

I am addressing the period from the beginning of creation to before the Annunciation in which The Blessed Virgin Mary was not yet created. Her intercession is continuous now, as is that of the Church Triumphant.

“This union of the mother with the Son in the work of salvation is made manifest from the time of Christ’s virginal conception up to his death”. (Catechism 963)

After her Son’s Ascension, Mary “aided the beginnings of the Church by her prayers.” (Catechism 964)

“… the Blessed Virgin’s salutary influence on men . . . flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on his mediation, depends entirely on it, and draws all its power from it.” (Catechism 970)

Thank you,

I wish you well and GOD’S speed in your endeavor.

Continued Blessings,
Patrick

That is a beautiful witness, Cajunjoy… Yes, Jesus showed us how completely we need Mary by depending on her himself in everything.

As St. Louis puts it in True Devotion to Mary:

"139. Our good Master stooped to enclose himself in the womb of the Blessed Virgin, a captive but loving slave, and to make himself subject to her for thirty years. As I said earlier, the human mind is bewildered when it reflects seriously upon this conduct of Incarnate Wisdom. He did not choose to give himself in a direct manner to the human race though he could easily have done so. He chose to come through the Virgin Mary. Thus he did not come into the world independently of others in the flower of his manhood, but he came as a frail little child dependent on the care and attention of his Mother. Consumed with the desire to give glory to God, his Father, and save the human race, he saw no better or shorter way to do so than by submitting completely to Mary."

Yes, dear sister. We need to be at the foot of the Cross with our Mother, whose love for each of us–vast as it always was–increased vastly when Jesus said “Behold, your son”

Besides our thorough need for Mary, it is wonderful to contemplate how close she is–how present she is–to every human person in particular.

It’s amazing to think of such a wonderful person being so close to us at all times, so that we have nothing to fear. “Am I not here who am your mother?”

We can never fully understand the goodness of the creature who is the Mother of God, because we can never understand the infinite Goodness of God.

St. Albert the Great said that “Mary could not have been more closely united to God without becoming God”.

And Pope Leo XII writes:

9. When we have recourse to Mary in prayer, we are having recourse to the Mother of mercy, who is so well disposed toward us that, whatever the necessity that presses upon us especially in attaining eternal life, she is instantly at our side of her own accord, even though she has not been invoked. She dispenses grace with a generous hand from that treasure with which from the beginning she was divinely endowed in fullest abundance that she might be worthy to be the Mother of God. By the fullness of grace which confers on her the most illustrious of her many titles,*the Blessed Virgin is infinitely superior to all the hierarchies of men and angels, the one creature who is closest of all to Christ. “It is a great thing in any saint to have grace sufficient for the salvation of many souls; but to have enough to suffice for the salvation of everybody in the world, is the greatest of all; and this is found in Christ and in the Blessed Virgin.”(1)

Thanks Katie777,

It is a beautiful picture and a tribute to Mary’s great humility. How beautiful a Mother Jesus has given to us all! Truly she is both Mother and Model for the Church. 🙂

Jesus certainly had a need for Mary. So, I’d say the brethren of Christ also have a need for Mary.

Dear Dave,

Thanks for your reply. Of course God in the absolute sense has no need of anyone; but God willed to “need” Mary in His Plan for Jesus to be born of a human Mother. How mysterious and beautiful is the humility of God, so willing to become like us in all things except sin. How beautiful and unfathomable is His Love – that He willed to become so little as to live in Mary’s womb for 9 months and be dependent on her. whom He created! How absolutely beautiful God is, in all and especially, in His Love for us!

Yes, I know I certainly have a need for Mary – I’d be lost without her! 🙂
