As to the verse about hair…it seems to me that Paul was citing an example in nature about a basic difference between men and women. Nature gives women longer hair than men. We men can rarely grow hair anywhere near the length that women can. He could have instead referred to breast size or some other nature given difference, but he chose hair.
‘Short’ hair to Paul was probably shoulder length. ‘Long’ hair was really long. To take this verse and try to extrapolate that he was saying that Christian men should wear hair trimmed above the ears and collar is simply cultural manipulation of scripture.
