I came across the following:

“We must worship the Eucharist. In worshipping the Eucharist, we are not worshipping a piece of bread or a cup of wine. In worshipping the Eucharist we are not sinning; we are not committing idolatry. Idolatry is when you worship something or someone who is not God. The Eucharist is God. On the contrary, it is, as St. Augustine proclaimed, a sin not to adore. Receiving Communion presupposes a disposition of adoration and worship”.

What exactly is the Catholic News Agency?

How many of Catholics believe this is OK?

It looks okay to me. Does this seem to you to be at variance with Catholic teaching?

Yes, Catholics worship the Consecrated elements of the Eucharist with latria (worship due only to God). This practice became popular in the West around the 14th Century and was approved at the Council of Trent. Anglo-Catholics will also practice Benediction. However it was never introduced in the East.

Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Anglicans do not deny the Real Presence (but they do deny transubstantiation as it is an Aristotelian term introduced in the Middle Ages) but do not practice adoration on the basis of a Sacrament should not be used for what it is not meant to be used for.

We adore Jesus present in the Eucharist and in the tabernacle.

What difference does it make when the word was introduced? The word ‘trinity’ did not exist for a long time, but the concept is certainly there. You probably believe in the Trinity. Hypostatic union is another example.

It would be a sin not to worship Him sacramentally as Eucharist.Do you not understand True Presence, and Transubstantiation. We don’t worship a cookie we worship Jesus Christ Almighty!Yes we WORSHIP Him in that state. When in the monstrance we fall down on our knees before him.I only wish I could prostrate myself on the floor in His Divine Pesence. It’s like having one foot in heaven. It literally is Heavenly!!!

of course it is okay
Catholics worship Jesus Christ as God, 2nd Person of the Blessed Trinity, Son of the Father, true God and true man. Jesus himself declared he is present in the consecrated bread and wine that are now the sacred species of the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist so we therefore believe that in worshipping the host we are worshipping Christ Himself. Christ does not lie therefore the Church does not lie in believing in what he taught. We consume NOT bread and wine in communion, but the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity whole and undivided, glorified, under the appearance of bread and wine, because He commanded it: This is My Body, This is My Blood of the New Covenant, take and eat, take and drink.

At the Last Supper, where the Eucharist was instituted, Jesus spoke the words of consecration. This is my body…, This is my blood…
At no time did he indicate that it was a metaphor or parable, so yes, the Consecrated bread and wine, (Body and Blood) are truly Jesus, and worthy of worship.

As far as who is the Catholic News Agency. You can research yourself quite easily by going to their website and clicking on the “about us” link in the upper right hand corner.

We adore Christ as God…there are no “Consecrated Elements”…it IS God that we worship. and BTW the Desert Fathers were doing so during the 3rd and 4th Centuries. We don’t USE Christ…we Adore Him!

If you all believe in The Real Presence…as you claim to…if it doesn’t happen via Transubstantiation, then how, in your opinion and according to your church’s teachings, does the bread and wine become The Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ???

They believe in consubstantiation.Unlike transubstantiation where the appearance, scent and taste of the host and wine remain as ‘accidents’,Lutherans and some others believe that the Body,Blood,Soul, and Divinity is consubstantiated with the host material. In other words the host remains bread and wine with Christ infused into it,unlike the Catholic model where the host and wine no longer remain just the “accidents” of the senses and only Christ.Lutherans and others please feel free to disagree or correct me if I’m in error.I also believe that Lutherans vew this as a temporary phenomena or miracle whereas Catholics believe it is permanent until disolved naturally by the body.

"do not practice adoration on the basis of a Sacrament should not be used for what it is not meant to be used for."Citation please from scripture, not opinion.

Sez fallible non-authoritative you.Quite a DOGNATIC OPINION.IF you believe it’s truly Christ how can you possibly not adore and worship Him.Would it be that you truly do not believe in the True Presence or is this just misplaced scruples about idolatary and the mischaracterisation of who the Eucharist truly is:some kind of weird hangover from Calvin et al and the heresies of the Deformation.

Simple syllogism:

We Catholics worship Jesus.

The Eucharist is Jesus.

Therefore, we worship the Eucharist.

Is this too difficult for you?

P.S.: Yes it does happen via transubstantiation. Did someone tell you otherwise???

All Catholics believe this is OK.

Yes I worship the Eucharist. God said it is Him and I believe it.

You’ve hit upon the one thing that really is true that some anti-Catholics realize. If it is not the body, blood, soul and divinity of Christ then we really are idolatrous. If it is, then why don’t you join us at mass?

John 6

When the Eucharist is beheld, we should echo St. Peter’s words “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.”
