Do I ask god for too much?

I often find myslef, when praying, suddenly being like “god, please let me pass my pre-calculus test”, "God, please let this person like me’, “God, please give {name of recently deceased person I know} peace.” I do this almost every time I pray now. Is this being to demanding to Him?😦

No. I mean you’ve got what some of us would love. You’ve got a real relationship with God that goes beyond the regular script. There’s no such thing as asking too much of an infinite being. I’m sure it feels good to Him that someone’s at least got things figured out.

God is infinite and therefore it is impossible to ask “too much” of Him. Also, God wants to help us and it is totally reasonable to ask Him for things; we wouldn’t have anything without Him. If you truly and honestly feel as if you are only praying to ask for things and then forgetting about God afterwards, then something would need to change, but there is nothing wrong with praying for things. Think of it this way: would St. John Paul II (or any saint) turn you away if you told him you needed him to do something? Would he call the Swiss Guard in on you if you asked for something big? Surely he wouldn’t do it for you if he didn’t think it would be good for you, but he would surely try to help you any way he could.

No. You are doing exactly what you should do. He wants us to depend on Him for every last thing we do.

I have found that it is best to not try to do anything without asking Jesus to help me first. I can be assured that if it is His Holy Will, He will help me.

You are being humble. It is a holy thing. Many people are too proud to ask Him for these kinds of things.

God gives grace to the humble and opposes the proud

St. Faustina once asked Him to save everyone in the whole world who was dying, and He did. This revelation has the approval of the Church. We can’t always expect Him to do that.

You need to ask for bigger things too. Like if you know a hardened sinner, spend some time asking Him to save their soul. Or ask Him that you can live your whole life for the salvation of souls and be close to Him in Heaven for all of Eternity. Ask for big things. He often grants these things. Ask Him that you will never commit a mortal sin ever again. Ask Him that a child you know will never commit a willful sin against Him. Ask for big things.

Ask Him to save every person you encounter in a day. Ask Him for a lot and ask Him for big things.

Never forget - God loves you literally. Literal love. If you ask Him ANYTHING that is in accordance with His Will, He will grant it. Maybe not right away, and maybe not how you want Him to, but He will if it is His Will.

St Faustina’s Diary helped me to understand a lot of things. It might help you too.

^This I think is the crux of my problem… my regular prayers eventually turn into me asking god for something and then after I voice my wants to him I go back to whatever it is I was doing :o

I know a 2-year-old kid like that. His parents still love him to bits.

He’ll eventually grow out of that behavior. And with work so will you.
 
I foresee that one could start blaming God for bad things that were determined to happen, making it an excuse not to believe in God any more. Maybe too much negative as a result. We praise Him when good things happen, building altars and remembering His faithfulness.
 
Nope, I think it’s great that you are including God in your day to day affairs.🙂
There’s also prayers of praise and thanksgiving but I’m sure you do that too.

Just saw your thread. Good question. God does want to help us in the details of life, but what
pleases Him is faith. Look at Mk.11:24. It shows us how to ask in faith. The key is to use your faith or trust in God to believe that you already have what you ask. Then praise Him for it as if you already have it. This is faith in action.

A good practice is to ask your heavenly Father for grace for the day. There is a daily grace. Ask for it at the beginning of your day. Then say,“I receive it”. Do this every day.

No. Well. Maybe. There are some who never ask for his help. If it is within your power to do not, maybe do not consult God. Then again, who am I say that? Pray always.
