Do Most Protestants Do This?

The idea that they look down upon us Catholics is very evident and there is no attempt to hide it.

Am I the only one that sees this or is this the pattern? If it is the pattern, how do you all get past this attitude and have productive and God honoring discussions? I am finding it very difficult.

Most mainline protestants could care less about the Catholic Church. The only ones who come in here are ones who have an ax to grind; many, unfortunately, are ex-Catholics. Those are the worse kinds to have discussions with because they think they know it all, and their anger (for whatever reason) against the Church makes them crazy. Many times they have left the Church because they are engaged in a behavior that the Church frowns upon, or they do not agree with some dogma or doctrine to the point of taking it personally, which is another issue in itself. Usually, I just ignore it.

This is interesting. Could you tell me where I might find this article? I remember an episode of Little House on the Prairie where Mrs. Olson is asked to read the bible. She has been disparaging another character for being illiterate. The Bible is not in English and it is pointed out to her that she is not illiterate because she cannot read a different language. I wonder how many might have been considered illiterate because they couldn’t read English?

As for my Evangelical-to-Orthodox friends, I suspect that they all wound up Orthodox primarily because of the people on staff in the theology department. My family and I were looking for a new church home. I was bothered by the differing theology among the different denominations that we visited. I decided to study the early church to help determine what the understanding of the early church was. As I began to read church history, from my protestant books, I found that the practices and beliefs were Catholic.

I never seriously considered Orthodox as I saw there decision to separate from Catholicism as a political authority issue. I know this is a gross oversimplification but it sums up my understanding.

It was an interesting journey as I had no Catholic friends to help influence me. All of my friends are protestant and, needless to say, they did not endorse the decision to move to the Catholic Church.

Why did you edit my post that you quoted? It makes it appear as though I said something that I did not.

In answer to your question, I can assure you that the Catholic Church does not do this. There may be some Catholics that do but my experience has been that far fewer Catholic aggresively evangelize protestant than the other way around.

I posted nothing about that.

You seemed dismayed that you encounted a Protestant or a number thereof that expressed (or perhaps you interpreted) the following: “I am smarter than you and you need to listen to me”

My question to you seems very reasonable. Does that apply to The Catholic Church? Does The Catholic Church express or imply that we are all to listen to it? Does it express or imply that it knows and we don’t?

Maybe you could start a new thread on the topic. Maybe you could head on over to the pillar of truth thread…oh wait…you are already there and talking about this very topic. 🤷

The Catholic Church was given the full deposit of faith by Jesus. This is a Catholic site to provide Catholic answers. I would expect to get those answers when I come here. I wouldn’t expect to get protestants that feel it necessary to post misleading thread titles and then lecture me on how my faith is wrong. :eek:

So, does that make it right for protestants to come here and behave that way? Do 2 wrongs make a right.

I personally think we need to learn to respect one another and show brotherly love. Unfortunately, few of us do this consistently.

So are you just venting or do you feel you have a real complaint?

In my personal opinion, most of the “hard-core” protestants do that. I know people inside and out of this forum that do it, constantly. I think, since their view don’t exactly amount to much, compared to the Church, they must try and get their point across, before you shoot it out of the sky, burn the ruins, and dance on the ashes. 🙂

Is seems good and right to ask if this assumption exists in The Catholic Church?

If you, as a Catholic, are going to be “bothered greatly” by an attitude that says, “I know, you don’t - so just listen to me!” then the first order of business is to check your own position. Sometimes in pointing one finger at another, one might end up pointing three back at self. Jesus told a parable about that, remember?

I came to this forum in hopes of finding like minded Christians-Trinitarian Christians of various denominations who might follow different celebrations of faith, but alll believe Jesus is our Lord and Savior a gift of Grace from GOD, that all of us together are the One True Church, the bride of Christ.

Instead I found many caught up in seeing how different each denomination of Christianity is and which one is correct.

There is a battle going on. It might just serve us right to fall under the rule of Islam.

This sounds very Islamic. While people squabble amongst themselves, Islam would make all thinking obsolete because under Sharia laws it is forbidden to ask questions.

I feel safe in saying its not because they are Catholic. Its just how they are. Maybe they like being that way as a person, maybe they cant help it, maybe they dont even intend on coming across like that but they do.
