Do muslims believe in the same God as Catholics?

Well do they?

Muslims know that God exists. They believe in Him and worship Him. But their worship is not “in spirit and in truth.” - They worship what they do not know. They have been misinformed about who God is and what He has done. They are not able to enter the holy of holies. They stand outside the Temple, looking from a distance, knowing that God is inside. But they have inaccurate ideas about what He looks like and how He behaves.

I believe wholeheartedly they worship the same God. Unfortunately for them, they believe their prophet came from Ismael’s (and we know Ismael is from Slavery) line.

Now if you’re thinking in other terms, saying God is the most powerful being, creator of all things, redeemer, etc. then yes. It’s a more complex answer than just yes or no. There are some points similar to the real God but they are mistaken on some parts and ignorant (not in a bad way, they just don’t know) on other points.

I think all monotheistic religions believe their god is creator, redeemer etc.

Therefore you cannot use that as proof it is the same god.

How could a religion that came up 600 years after Christianity still deny the divinity of Christ? How could Archangel Gabriel who appeared to Mary and proclaimed, “Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called SON OF THE MOST HIGH” be the same Archangel Gabriel who appeared to Mohammed when Islam traditionally teaches that Jesus is a man, not God.

How could a religion that came up 600 years after Christianity through the revelations from an archangel teaches that their prophet Mohammed who is man, is greater than Jesus Who is God – man greater than God?

I think to anser the question one should furst define what it means for two gods to be the same.

As Catholics we believe there is only One God. There cannot be two gods. Therefore the question of whether they are the same cannot arise.

What this question really is about is not whether he god of the Muslims is the same as the Christian God, but whether the god they believe in is a false god or a flawed understanding of the Real God.

You could argue that all monotheistic concepts of God have some common traits with the Chiristian God. They can theefore be undersood to be some flawed understanding of the same god. But that commonality comes from the definition of being a god. That alone does not make the gods the same.

How could there be another revelation, much less flawed and incomplete, that came from God or His messenger when Jesus Christ is the Fullness of all Revelation. In case of private revelations (of saints and prophets), they should never contradict, surpass or correct Christ’s revelation. And Christ has revealed to us a Triune God.

“same God” can mean the one God of Abraham.
Then it would be yes.

“as Catholics” the definition would necessarily include the Trinity and Jesus being God-man.
Then the answer is no.

So the question seems to me to be unanswerable.

If the question was about Jews instead of Muslims, it still would be unanswerable for the same reasons.

If rather, the question read, "Do muslims/Jews believe in the same God of Abraham as Catholics? Then of course the answer is yes.
