Matt 16: 16-20) [16] Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. [17] And Jesus answering, said to him: Blessed art thou, Simon Bar-Jona: because flesh and blood hath not revealed it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. [18] And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [19] And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever** thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou** shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven. [20] Then he commanded his disciples, that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ.
The definition of “Thee” = archaic or dialect form of you, as the singular…
The Definition of “Thou”= archaic or dialect form of you, as the singular.
“I say to thee…:” “Thee” This means only to Peter not to any other Apostles
“And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of Heaven…” The keys were only given to St. Peter, and not to any other Apostle or church, for no other church existed, but the Catholic Church. Amen.
And whatsoever Thou shalt bind…" “Thou” Means only St. Peter can bind and no other Apostle.
“And whatsoever THOU shalt loose upon earth…” “Thou” means only St. Peter can loose.
Simon Peter answered and said: Thou art Christ, the Son of the living God. “Thou” means that Simon Peter, was referring to Jesus Christ, and not to the Apostles.
This was a one on one conversation between Jesus Christ and St. Peter re: the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, The other Apostles were only present / by standers to it.
Jesus Christ, gave the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven to only one of His Apostles because this will bring about order in the Catholic Church. Imagine, if every Apostle had the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven this would or could cause chaos within the Catholic Church.
NOTE: Jesus Christ states twice “Upon Earth” before saying “In Heaven” so therefore the keys are now on earth, St. Peter is no longer on earth but his successor Pope Francis, is:thumbsup:
Many big name Protestants churches such as Lutherans etc… say they have the Keys to bind and loose but this is so untrue because the fact is clear here that, Jesus Gave the Keys only to St. Peter, in the "Singular" and not to any other Apostle, not even the Apostle John, whom Jesus Loved, so why would Jesus Christ give the Keys to any other church?
Protestants / Lutherans say all the Bishops have the same Authority as the Bishop of Rome, yes, all Bishops have authority to some degree, but they don’t have the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven to bind and loose only One Bishop / Pope the successor of St. Peter, has the Keys, to do so. Amen.
