By the way I just love that last photo Hesychios. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase, “baby shower!”
In the Baptisms I’ve seen, in video and in person, the baby usually goes all the way under. I think in one I saw online the priest kept the baby’s head above water. I know my priest dunks 'em all the way in.So, the baby’s head isn’t submerged then? Judging from the photos, it doesn’t appear so. And it looks like that one baby is enjoying it!
No, they are all fully immersed. So, the baby’s head isn’t submerged then?
If you look at the videos I posted, Fr. Roman doesn’t dunk the baby’s head. And his parish pretty much is as Orthodox as a Catholic parish can ever get. His parish is probably closer to Orthodox traditions than Ukrainian Orthodox parishes. No, they are all fully immersed.
The head goes under three times.
I have seen this on several occasions (although I have been Orthodox only six years), it is always a total dunking.
There was an instance a year or two ago when a baby died while being baptized by an Orthodox priest. Although those instances are rare.Well, I’ve also seen pictures of infants underwater in swimming pools, so I guess the breath hold reflex works just as well in Orthodox baptism. Learn something new every day!
My old eastern Catholic pastor did not dunk the babies head either. He immersed the baby bottom and used a big pitcher to flood the head (but apparently not much on the face) three times. So you can imagine the shock I had when I saw the first Orthodox baptism (I was still Catholic, but visiting a parish), the baby was totally nude went right down DUNK! below the water line and came out wriggling and wet from tip to toe, then DUNK again two more times …If you look at the videos I posted, Fr. I remember e news story of a renegade Black Catholic priest attempting it, the incident was reported here on CAF, but I don’t recall anything like that from an Orthodox priest. There was an instance a year or two ago when a baby died while being baptized by an Orthodox priest. Once I saw the baby was immersed in a cradled position on the arms but it wasn’t a full immersion. It was an impressive thing to witness.

I voted yes because that is the desired outcome, but it all dependsDo Christians receive the Holy Spirit at baptism or not?
Yea, but that would require thought… I’m not always inclined to think, but I try.You can just click on the “view poll results” button the right side of the poll. You don’t have to vote to see the results.
Sure, here you go => GoogleCan someone provide me a link to an orthodox Orthodox page that says that Christians receive the Holy Spirit at baptism?
It says absolutely nothing about Christians receiving the Holy Spirit at baptism!
