Do people think Jesus will come back in their lifetime, and why?

Jesus said that nobody knows when the end will come.

He also said that if anybody claims that they do know, we should** not** listen to that person.
I agree. In every age, so many people attempt to prophecy when Jesus is coming again. I’d think that they would have learned by now.

Amen! (and second guessing that is second guessing the Lord).

We’re told we will not know the hour. So I dont think about it. But I would like to be right with Him when He comes. Never knowing the hour makes it an imperative for me to get my soul in order.

Forgive me because people like your mother, are not who I am talking about,
Your mother sounds to me, as a light in darkness.
No one should have hurt her, or you or anyone in your family or anyone in your shoes.
It saddenes me to read this happenes amoung christians, yet- I know you will find very good christians here even if that is not much consolation to you at the moment.

Please understand, I found this thinking amoung non catholics, that is why I posted here.
I had no idea this could be a bad question to ask.

Maybe we can just table this one.
Thank you for your kind words. There are great Christians here. All the people here I would give the shirt off my back. I try to separate myself from big church America for I do not align myself with the big business of modern Christianity where these pastors live lavish lives with jets and compounds meanwhile the poor and the hopeless give what little they have to be plundered by men preaching a gospel of prosperity. Buy my book and I will show you…

Shame on them! If anything I have more respect for Catholic Priests who punch the clock and their charities are self evident. Their is an abundance of good in these men. I pray for them although I can’t position myself to embrace all of their beliefs I will say good things about priests and Catholics.

Once again. You are kind and gentle. I pray that you may have a revealing in your due time and that I may meet you one day on Holy Mt. Zion in service of the King. Yashua Ha’mashiac!

I hope to one day be able to take the very leap of faith you all do that believe.
I have tried to do so since coming here, and will keep on trying.

Thank you so much for you kindness, and I don’t think I will forget about your mother either.
I admire good people, with sincere concern and belief even if I don’t understand it. I know it is a very important part of who they are in their core, and that alone is worth seeking.

Peace

No, hardly a chance. Partly because I’m 55 and my life is 2/3 over. Also because people have expected Jesus’ 2nd coming for about 1,950 years and it hasn’t happened yet. I don’t see any reason to think that Jesus will come in the next 2,000 years any more than he did in the previous 2,000 years.

And at any rate, Jesus said that only the Father knows the hour, didn’t he?

Yes, I think the narrative does relay that only the Father knows when.

Some think that suffering is tied to holiness, and it does make me wonder how much more suffering is going to have to take place to make this all happen.

It seems, odd to me.

Personally I don’t think Christ will come back in my lifetime. Like somebody else here, I’m 55 and if some earlier things I’ve experienced are correct, I expect to peg out in my 70’s sometime.

I also believe God intends to drive the human race off the planet. He’s allowed us to get so far as space research, space medicine, moon landings, and to develop the associated technology (very rapidly incidentally - it took 1900 years from Christ to learn to fly and just 106 years later supersonic flight, rocketry, satellites, space shuttles, and space stations are taken for granted)… We have robotics, computers and are just starting to dabble in quantum teleportation, which in my opinion will lead to personal teleportation down the track, hence the ability to move rapidly enough to make it possible.

BUT … I expect a lot of trouble in the meantime, which will set the scene for a planet so badly damaged that we will have to move off it if we’re to have any sort of decent lifestyle. Both the ancient book of Revelation and recent Marian apparitions give dire warnings. So much so that a lot of people will think Christ is going to come back, as the Rapturists do, and I think they’re badly mistaken.

I don’t think He’ll come back in the near future. After all one of His other comments was that He’ll return at an hour when we don’t expect HIm to come back. But like everybody else here however, my opinion is conjecture since we just don’t know. Even Christ didn’t know, as He made clear.

I’ve met people personally that feel strongly that the “end” will not come before they see Jesus in their very lifetime.

They even admit to having relatives that died that felt the very same way.

Can anyone explain this to me?
Yes I have met folks who feel this way to. They arrive at this conclusion by reading several passages in Scripture and then connecting the dots.

Not to throw a wet blanket on this, but there is an inconvenient verse in Matther 24:14 that says;
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
If I take this literally, we are still quite a bit away from this point because there still are several thousand unreached people groups across the globe. So no, I don’t expect it to be in my lifetime because there is still quite a bit of work for the Church of Jesus Christ left to accomplish on earth.

But as in most things, I could be wrong in this.
