Do Priests where the black Skull cap?
Where? On their heads, of course!Do Priests where the black Skull cap?
Are you sure priests wear the Zucchetto. I know they have a hat that they can wear outside of Mass, and does anybody have information on this “hat”?Yes, priests are allowed to wear the Zucchetto. Priests wear black, Bishops wear purple, Cardinals wear Red, and the Pope wears white.
Then the next question would be, can a priest wear a Beretta? And if he does, should he also wear a Biretta or a Zuchetto?Note: it’s important to distinguish a biretta from a beretta , which is a handgun.
He would probably want to wear a full cassock with the biretta on his head and the beretta under the cassock. Wait a minute–is that a priest, or James Bond in disguise? Then the next question would be, can a priest wear a Beretta? And if he does, should he also wear a Biretta or a Zuchetto?

If a biretta-wearing priest also wore a beretta, he might get a call from a fella named Barretta (well, maybe not anymore…)Then the next question would be, can a priest wear a Beretta? And if he does, should he also wear a Biretta or a Zuchetto?

sounds like someone from the Matrix to me…He would probably want to wear a full cassock with the biretta on his head and the beretta under the cassock. Wait a minute–is that a priest, or James Bond in disguise?
Priests can wear a black zucchetto (or a black biretta) but most don’t anymore. They seem to have gone out of fashion with fedoras. Are you sure priests wear the Zucchetto. I know they have a hat that they can wear outside of Mass, and does anybody have information on this “hat”?
Fedoras out of fashion? Nobody bothered to tell me…darn…I guess I’ll have to get something else…Priests can wear a black zucchetto (or a black biretta) but most don’t anymore. They seem to have gone out of fashion with fedoras.
James Bond carried a Walther PPK in .32ACP. My pastor carries a Beretta Cougar 8040L in .40S&W under his cassock. He would probably want to wear a full cassock with the biretta on his head and the beretta under the cassock. Wait a minute–is that a priest, or James Bond in disguise?
Oh, uh - apologies for the fedora comment…incidentally, I’m waiting for my “newsie” cap to come back into fashion.Fedoras out of fashion? Nobody bothered to tell me…darn…I guess I’ll have to get something else…

PS–From what I understand, Priests may wear the zuchetto, but not during Mass. Only Bishops and above may wear the zuchetto during the liturgy.
somehow there’s something disturbing about that image. I dunno…priest, packin’ heat (two of 'em)…but of course, I’m sure he only carries them in case he gets a sudden urge to shoot up bottles at the range…James Bond carried a Walther PPK in .32ACP. Why? Jesus, Himself, instructed His followers to protect themselves when He encouraged them to sell their outer garments in order to buy a sword (Luke 22:36-38; cf. 2 Corinthians 11:26-27 – a plain reading of the passage indicates that Jesus approved of self-defense). Here the “sword” (Greek: maxairan) is a dagger or short sword that belonged to the Jewish traveler’s equipment as protection against robbers and wild animals. Pretty much the equilavent of what a handgun is today.somehow there’s something disturbing about that image.
Who said anything about two? Of course, if he did carry two (or three), I wouldn’t see that as a problem either.I dunno…priest, packin’ heat (two of 'em)
He carries it in case he or his congregation is attacked as has already been the case in some churches. I think that is very prudent of him. He is taking very seriously his responsibility as a Catholic to protect himself and other innocent individuals from harm as we all are instructed to do in the CCC.…but of course, I’m sure he only carries them in case he gets a sudden urge to shoot up bottles at the range…
Why?I think I’d go to someone else for confession.
I don’t know to what extent the biretta was precribed for outside wear. Perhaps it came to popular use because it was precribed for all liturgical ceremonies? The three cornered hat for outside wear is called the biretta . Like the zucchetto, it comes in different colors for priest, bishops, and cardinals. But it’s not very popular anymore among parish priests.
We have THREE Msgrs at our parish and they all were the purple cassock. Our single priest really stands out next to them in his black cassock. Our priest wears his biretta on processional to the altar at the beginning of Mass, but then he also wears a cassock… oh my he is instantly recognisable as a PRIEST!
