I think you have that backwards. My father is Catholic and I grew up Catholic and we never went to church, we never prayed, we never had any relationship with Jesus Christ. the fact however that y’all are here is a good thing. But most Catholics don’t know the Bible and that’s the problem I have. They don’t teach it either except for a reading a verse here or there. When was the last time you had a study over Noah, Daniel, Ezekiel, Isaiah, or any the Pauline epistles? When i say study, I mean thorough study going over the entire book? My Catholic friends know nothing about the Bible and they never will because there are no Bible studies in Catholic church. No offense, I’m just giving you my (name removed by moderator)ut.

DFW,

With all due respect, judging a religion of more than a billion by the small circle of “your Catholic friends” is not all that relevant. I went to several RCCs when I lived in NY and three here since I moved to Kentucky and they all do what you accuse us of not doing.

And I can easily throw your line right back at you. From my experience, the Protestants I have known know how to quote 10-15 verses from scripture better than Catholics but do not know scripture. There is a big difference.

And let’s face it. Learning how to interpret scripture in a manner that was invented by man over the last 500 years is not even close to as useful as learning as it was intended, with the guidance of Holy Tradition and the magisterium. We learn the Gospels as Jesus taught the apostles. Protestants learn the bible as taught to them by Smith, Luther, Calvin, etc.

Do protestants really hate catholicism?

Southern Baptists don’t. So the answer is no. Hope that helps. 👍

We have a bible study at our church every Thursday night for the men, and every Tuesday morning for the ladies. We are currently studying the Old Testament prophets in ours. Not to mention every Sunday between the 8:00 and 10:00 mass we have Religious Education for our children in which we have them read the bible and expound upon it. Currently our 8th grade class is studying Jesus Christ, his baptism and the temptation in the wilderness.

The church is trying it’s best to teach the bible to it’s members. In fact, if you attend every mass for 3 years, you’ll hear almost the entire bible proclaimed. That’s more than most people who aren’t Catholic will ever hear.

As many have stated below, most protestant, southern Baptists, ect… pick apart Catholic faith from there pulpit. That is the source of hatred in Protestants toward the Catholic faith, as I see it.
Or in my words, they are filling up there pews, and there collections with fallen away, poorly catechized Catholics, who never took the time to understand Catholicism.
Example: So many marriages take place without Catholic preparation classes, not having been consecrated in a Catholic church. Hence , a Vegas Wedding …
Then it is only a state recognized marriage for 2, and not 3 as a consecrated Catholic marriage.
Yes Catholics are poorly catechized and that falls to the parents. I have learned through Legion of Mary home visits that most parents stop Catholic education after confirmation and that is usually 12 years old. Public educated Catholics usually fall away in highest numbers, in the Catholic Church.
I have read that divorce is much higher in non-Catholic marriages.
But when a divorced Catholic falls back in love, then talks to their prient about getting re-married, they are extremely disappointed when he tells them they must receive an annulment before they can receive any sacraments. They then are fertile soil for the entry into non-Catholic churchs because that protestant minister assures them that there is no need for them to receive a annulment from their Catholic church. They will tell them the Catholic Church is mid-evil and they don’t have to live with their new spouses as brother and sisters, until they receive their annulments. They did not get remarried to live as brother and sister and they easily will walk away from their Catholic heritage, to live as they wish. The Catholic Church does not make the rules on remarriage, our Church fathers and scripture does. But that is another subject.
The ministers must keep them coming back by continuing to pick apart the Catholic faith on other differences.
There are many more examples to pick but to me, above is the most obvious.
So much for Ecumenism, but you never hear a Catholic priest in the homily, degrade or cast dispersions on non-Catholic Christians, Muslims or Buddhists… Our faith grows from reverts and non-Catholic who seek the truth about the faith.
