To know or suspect you are a Saint may show pride. Rather, their confidence came from knowing and experiencing God’s grace and mercy in their lives.

It seems wise to differentiate between canonized saint and saint. We are called saints by St. Paul in many places, but notably in Rom. 1:7. I believe one may be aware of the state of his soul, through no consciousness of serious sin, and also having no attachment to sin, even though venial sins may be committed on occasion.

With personal awareness of being in the state of grace, one may be confident in saying they are one of the saints of God in the Body of Christ. If they are in danger of death while in that state of sanctifying grace, they may trust in God’s merciful love and enter heaven.
St. Therese chided a sister who was very afraid of purgatory, encouraging her to trust in God. When the sister died, she appeared to St. Therese from purgatory and said she was so right about this, and
asked St. Therese to pray for her.

If we have been the habit of obtaining plenary indulgences throughout our lives, there is a special plenary bestowed upon death that does bring us straight into heaven. Manual of Indulgences: Section 12. Praise God for His merciful love!

Just one thing, you may be missing what a saint is. A canonised saint is not the only person who is a saint… a good God-loving person …as you put it… it probably a saint too. Just because someone is not named by the church as a saint out loud doesnt mean they are not one. Every single one of us is called to be a saint and we should aim to be one. We should expect nothing less of ourselves and spend every single moment trying to please God, and in doing that we will all be saints. And nope we will never know it because of humility, like others have said. The road to heaven is paved with humility and we patiently go that way with God.

I get it totally–especially the part about the hoagie and chocolate cake.

Indeed! We are either saints, or we suffer eternal hell. Sheep and goats - that much was made very clear, but even the sheep rely 100% on God’s grace and mercy.

Easy choice.
