Do SDA believe they are the only religion getting saved?

The Seventh Day Adventist feel really really confident about their relgion since they are programed to be anti-catholic in their revelation seminars that kinda makes them a bit harder to witness because they have learned to not listen to a Catholic. They referr to themselves as THE remnant church in revelations. it seems to me that the revelation seminars are required course within the church, I will give them credit to say that their religion is different then alot of well known ones which I believe gives them even more reasons to think they are the remnant church, but their church seems to be more of a social club then a church and very cliqie.

I have heard about a million people leave the SDA church every 5 years and that’s just the ones that requested their membership removed, if they were to count the ones who just left, the scale would probably be higher. most of them leave because of doctrine too.

Be not seduced by strange doctrines nor by antiquated fables, which are profitless. For if even unto this day we live after the manner of Judaism, we avow that we have not received grace… If then those who had walked in ancient practices attained unto newness of hope, no longer observing Sabbaths but fashioning their lives after the Lord’s day, on which our life also arose through Him and through His death which some men deny … how shall we be able to live apart from Him? … It is monstrous to talk of Jesus Christ and to practise Judaism. For Christianity did not believe in Judaism, but Judaism in Christianity

I see someone here has been very busy “witnessing” to me by calling me “Monstrous.” LOL…Sometimes my dear wife calls me the same; but it is all in good fun. I wonder how much fun we are having now. 🤷

I have been listening to you guys for a long time now…check out when I joined this forum. Such commentators should re-think some of these kinds of cliche’ mantras about Adventists.

Just to clarify something. The sabbath IS SATURDAY. Always has been, always will be.

The reason the new Christians changed their meeting day was for many reasons, one being to differ from the Jewish Sabbath. The Lord’s Day was the Sunday, seemed appropriate to worship Christs death and risen Glory.

So if the SDA’s want to follow Jewish dogma, they should become Jews.
Jesus was a “Jew.” If you wanna go to heaven; you gonna be a Jew too.

The Bible tells us very clearly how that God made the Earth for mankind. “And behold it was very good.” It also says that God made animals, plants, and food for mankind. “And behold it was very good.” The Bible says that God saw that it wasn’t good for man to be alone, so He made woman for man. This, of course, was VERY GOOD!! The Bible says that God saw all that He had made; and “it was very good!” God especially blessed the seventh-day Sabbath, which is the fourth of the ten commandments.

It sure is an odd thing we have here. Whenever Christians don’t want to do something, they just give it to the Jews! They say things like “Oh, that was just for the Jews.” But, if this is true; that the Sabbath which was made for man; and that we should now just give that to the Jews; and if we want to be consistent, then we had better give the Jews our food, and our women too.

Contrary to popular opinion, the whole Bible is “Jewish” (not Catholic) except for the odd spot where King Nebuchadnezar contributed; and even Jesus was Jewish!! The Bible came through a Jew to you; and if you want to go to heaven; you are going to be a Jew too! Ro.9:6, Eph.3:6, Gal.3:29, etc.

well I do not understand how Adventists believe Adam kept the sabbath before there was sin, did adam really need a day of rest, all Adam did was name the animals and after that he enjoyed hanging out in the garden. The adventists makes it seem like Adam needed a day of rest from his last six days of doing nothing.

Now when I look in Exodus when Moses freed the Slaves. There I could tottally understand why GOD wanted to establish a sabbath covenant right then and there, because of the simple fact they were slaves and worked practically 24/7, while adam lived in a perfect garden and his only work is picking fruit to eat.

Did God “really need a rest?”
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Was Adam’s “rest” from work, or in Christ? God “rested from His work” because the foundation of Christ and Him crucified had already been laid.

You didn’t recognize the quote from Ignatius of Antioch, about 107 AD? He was one of those who probably knew the Apostles. That quote was from his letter to the Magnesians, chapter 10. In another translation “monstrous” is translated “absurd”.

Jeremiah

Hehe. This reminds me of an olllld catholic joke.

A man dies and stands before the pearly gates. St. Peter tells him that there will be a short delay before judgement and would he like a tour? The man agrees and St. Peter first gives him a glimpse of hell. It is so horrifying that the man cannot look. He says to St Peter, “Did these poor souls have no religion?”

St Peter looks at him sadly and says 'Every one of those poor souls is catholic." At this, the man looks quite hopeful since he is SDA, but St Peter quickly reminds him: “Not so fast! Judgement wipes away all ignorance, error and confusion. Everybody up here is catholic too.”

I don’t blame SDA folks for believing they have it right and that everybody who disagrees has it wrong. That’s practically the definition of conviction. Why fault them for that? The fault isn’t in having a certainty. It is in being certain of something no true!

Violet,
You are right… Adam needed no rest, he wasn’t Jewish. This is why the Bible does not mention a Sabbath in the book of Genesis at all. There is no record of Adam, Eve, Noah, Isaac, Jacob, etc. keeping a Sabbath.

Hello guys,

I am new to this forum. I am in the Navy and do not have many friends into their faith. It’s a breath of fresh air to speak to others that share a joy in Christ.

I must say though, I am a little dis-heartened about the spirit of comments I have read. I am of the belief that we should be patient with each other and in love and respect reason together using the bible only as our guide to ascertain the truth of Christ. Seventh-day Adventist, along with many other faiths, recieve much unnecessary criticism, much of it being completely false and majorly misrepresented. I want everyone to know, that Christ loves and respects every person, of every faith and my prayer is that we all follow his example. ONLY then can we come to understand Christ.

Pride and ignorance has no place in reasoning together with spiritual things. I put forth that if someone has a misunderstanding or curiousity of another denomination that they post in a un-criticising and un-prejudice manner. Post to seek further understanding.

Welcome Messenger,
We would love to hear your comments about specifically what has been misrepresented. Also, while this topic must be saved for another thread, keep in mind that the majority of Christians do not believe that scripture alone is our final rule of faith, we believe in God’s word, no matter how that is transmitted. Anyway, welcome, and I look forward to hearing your idea’s. Thanks

I don’t think pride is a motivator behind Seventh-day Adventist beliefs. And that is what your suggesting. One should not carry the perspective of I am right and you are wrong so much as,

“God please grant me the wisdom and understanding to come to know your truths.”

There are always the bad apples of every denomination that do not act appropriately and misrepresent the rest of the group, however, you will be hard pressed to find an Adventist that will not reason together in the spiriit of love using the bible alone for inspiration. Where I think a lot of the precious people in the Catholic faith have a concern is their thought that another group (Adventists) are bad mouthing them by claiming their spiritual leader to be the antichrist and that those who are different from them (Adventists) and their beliefs are going to hell.

Let me clear this up now. Unless you are of the desire to, and follow through with that desire, to OBJECTIVELY understand the biblical reasoning behind the beliefs of another denomination you cannot possibly comment on its accuracy… Any such attempt to do so is a display of ignorance, ( I say that with respect). This spirit of pride that fuels the negative comments about other denominations doctrines is one of the reasons why there are so many denominations to begin with, all claiming to have the “truth.”

Adventists believe that all are precious in God’s eyes. No one will perish from any denomination that loyally follow God. If you can honestly say in your heart that you have searched the scriptures with nothing else but the earnest desire for truth, no matter how life changing it might be for you, and you live up to the light God has given you, you will be saved.

There is a common mis-conception about the antichrist. The bible NEVER refers to Daniel 7 and Revelation 13 ( some of the chapters talking about that subject) as a specific antichrist that will rise in anytime. It simply refers to a kingdom, with a man at its head. The antichrist as some christians would think of it is simply a kingdom which has been given 13 identifying marks. The Catholic people themselves are not being refrenced in this prophecy. Catholics are some of the most reverent and God fearing people I know. God bless you all for your daily sacrifices and continual love for Christ. I fully intend on inviting some of you over for tea at my mansion when we get to heaven 🙂 The spirit of Revelation is to simply bring forth a message that Satan is actively trying to counterfit God and decieve the whole world. We should take particular interest to Daniel and Revelation in our time brothers and sisters.

If there are any of you who now would like to reason together in love and respect for Christ let us confront some of the lies that are both spoken about Cotholics and Seventh-day Adventists. At the most we can respectfully agree to disagree on some points but have a better understanding of who each of us are!

I’m sorry, but I don’t see a drop of “pride” in this statement. The statement is as legitimately applicable to any of us Catholics. We believe we’re right; where disagreement exists others are wrong. As muanualman said, this is the definition of conviction.

Violet,

If you are using the bible as reference then what are your thoughts on this:

Genesis 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

If we reason for a moment, I doubt anyone is of the impression that God needs to rest. We must ask ourselves why he chose to do this. If it wasn’t to rest perhaps he was setting an example for us. He gave us the Sabbath as a blessing so that we may take a day and spend it with our creator. This is our family day. It sets us apart as christians. I believe you agree with this notion as well, you just do it on a different day. When the solemnity of the Sabbath was transitioned from Saturday to Sunday by the papacy he was only doing just that, changing the day, not the blessing or the duty we have as Christians to hollow it.

If God issued the Sabbath in the Garden of Eden it cannot be refered to as the Jewish Sabbath, since it was made before the Jews existed. I believe it is safe to say that Adam and Eve kept the first Sabbath since it was their command to do so. The very commandment of the Sabbath brings forth the reason why we keep it and its reference to its origin:

Exodus 20
8 Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Ex 16:23 Then he said to them, “This is what the LORD has said: ‘Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.’”
Ex 16:25 Then Moses said, "Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field.
Ex 16:26 “Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, there will be none.”

The Israelites keeping the Sabbath was just a continuance of that which was kept before.

You are right by the way, I do not know of any specificly mentioned time of anyone keeping the Sabbath from Genesis to Exodus. If anyone knows of any time it is mentioned please post it.

I am simply trying to point out the fact that pride is what causes people to believe they are right and have no further truth to gain, in so much as if they did happen to be wrong in any precept, they would never know it. Pride is the pillar of darkness (or lack of truth). Satan will use it to prevent people from further understanding.

I want to bring out the spirit of humble growth. It’s ok to think you are right. It’s not ok to think it to the point of being pridefull.

But I apologize, perhaps I misunderstood what he was trying to say.

Messenger,
This post regarding the Sabbath is way off the subject of the thread… however, if you would like to start another thread, or tack it onto one of the already existing Sabbath threads, I would be THRILLED to talk to you about it.

SDA’s do not see themselves as the only PEOPLE to be saved, but I would argue that they since they see themselves as the “Remnant” spoken of in the book of Revelation, they do in fact see themselves as the religion to bring the final message of God to the world. They usually refer to this as “The Three Angel’s Message”. Further they teach that whomever rejects the “Seal of God” (Sabbath Keeping) in the final days, will receive the Mark of the Beast (Sunday Keeping).

So basically, those who are not SDA but will be saved will either have never heard the SDA tenets, or they will accept Sabbath Keeping, while possibly not actually becoming SDA.
" The concept of the remnant is very dear to Adventists and has played a significant role in our self-understanding, in our mission and in our message. There is an almost unconscious feeling among us that if we lose the idea of the remnant we would lose, as a church, our purpose, our reason for existence. The conviction that there is a particular divine reason for our presence in the world is an intrinsic part of the Adventist historical and religious heritage."

adventistbiblicalresearch.org/documents/remnantSDAchurch.htm

From the SDA Book Questions on Doctrine:*"While we believe that Revelation 12:17 points to us as a people of prophecy, it is in no spirit of pride that we thus apply the scripture. To us it is the logical conclusion of our system of prophetic interpretation.

But the fact that we thus apply this scripture does not imply in any way that we believe we are the only true Christians in the world, or that we are the only**ones who will be saved. While we believe that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is the visible organization through which God is proclaiming this last special message to the world, we remember the principle that Christ enunciated when He said, “Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold” (John 10:16). Seventh-day Adventists firmly believe that God has a precious remnant, a multitude of earnest, sincere believers, in every church, not excepting the Roman Catholic communion, who are living up to all the light God has given them. The great Shepherd of the sheep recognizes them as His own, and He is calling them into one great fold and one great fellowship in preparation for His return. Our position on this point is clearly stated by Ellen G. White: *
*Among earth’s inhabitants, scattered in every land, there are those who have not bowed the knee to Baal. Like the stars of heaven, which appear only at night, these faithful ones will shine forth when darkness covers the earth and gross darkness the people. In heathen Africa, in the Catholic lands of Europe and of South America, in China, in India, in the islands of the sea, and in all the dark corners of the earth, God has in reserve a firmament of chosen ones that will yet shine forth amidst the darkness, revealing clearly to an apostate world the transforming power of obedience to His law.— *Prophets and Kings, pp. 188, 189."

I guess I came off as unclear. I was actually defending the SDA folks in the quoted statement. Too many catholics act offended when some other group or religion makes that claim to sole possession of the truth. That shouldn’t offend us! We should be impressed that they have strongly held convictions.

After all, we do too. We believe that Jesus established one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. One that is visible AND invisible. One that has a recognizable leadership and teachings.

That said, we can’t both be right when we hold to mutually contradictory beliefs. And as Messenger said, this means we need to charitably and humbly challenge one another and seek the truth. I’ve spent LOTS of time in college among evangelicals and enjoy the experience and gained a lot from it. That said, I continue to find their arguments wanting when comapred to those of the catholic church. Most of those I interacted with haven’t changed their convictions either. Such is life!
