There must be a way to report this to Ebay. They are pretty good about not allowing relics to be sold and also items such as Indian artifacts or bear claws. I am trying to find the link. In the meantime, it looks like someone (was it you???) sent in a scathing “question” that is now part of the posting. I have done so as well. Perhaps this will keep anyone from bidding.

Personally I think it is fake. At most Masses, they are pretty careful to make sure that the Eucharist is consumed before the recipient leaves and I would guess they are extra careful at the Vatican since this kind of sacrilage could happen.

I have reported it to Ebay, if they do not do anything and the seller refuses to remove it from Ebay, would it be proper to bid on it so that it does not fall in to the wrong hands and then either consume it ourselves or take it to the Priest.

The seller says they are located in Bakersfield, CA. Perhaps contacting the Bishop - - -

It’s most likely a scam. Ignore it. If you bid on it, you will be do exactly what scam artists want you to do.

It’s been removed. Now they’re just selling the postcard and the oil. Apparently the seller wasn’t Catholic. Perhaps she didn’t know what she was dealing with.

Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt.

This is a violation of so many Canon Laws!
Chapter II : THE RESERVATION AND VENERATION OF THE BLESSED EUCHARIST

Can. 934 §1 The blessed Eucharist:

1° must be reserved in the cathedral church or its equivalent, in every parish church, and in the church or oratory attached to the house of a religious institute or society of apostolic life

2° may be reserved in a Bishop’s chapel and, by permission of the local Ordinary, in other churches, oratories and chapels.

§2 In sacred places where the blessed Eucharist is reserved there must always be someone who is responsible for it, and as far as possible a priest is to celebrate Mass there at least twice a month.

Can. 935 It is not lawful for anyone to keep the blessed Eucharist in personal custody or to carry it around, unless there is an urgent pastoral need and the prescriptions of the diocesan Bishop are observed.

Can. 938 §1 The blessed Eucharist is to be reserved habitually in only one tabernacle of a church or oratory.

§2 The tabernacle in which the blessed Eucharist is reserved should be sited in a distinguished place in the church or oratory, a place which is conspicuous, suitably adorned and conducive to prayer.

§3 The tabernacle in which the blessed Eucharist is habitually reserved is to be immovable, made of solid and non-transparent material, and so locked as to give the greatest security against any danger of profanation.

Can. 940 A special lamp is to burn continuously before the tabernacle in which the blessed Eucharist is reserved, to indicate and to honour the presence of Christ.

The fact that this ebay seller claims to have received Holy Communion from the Holy Father several years ago, and to have “split” and shared a Host with her spouse, while retaining her own Host as a token of the event is horrific. And now she is selling her token for a $10 bid on ebay.

Do I hear 30 pieces of silver, anyone?

I have reported this transaction to ebay as a violation.

Considering that she refers to the Body of Christ as a “wafer”, I’m inclined to agree.

Phew. Good to see this has been removed. I could not get a message to post myself (it wouldn’t go through), but it looks like enough people complained. Still so very disturbing…

One more thing – assuming this was not a scam, I tried to email the seller, asking her to please consider bringing the Blessed Sacrament to her nearest Catholic Church so it would be disposed of properly. But it still won’t go through! Maybe one of you could email her?

I certainly did email the seller and instruct her that the item is considered Sacred and must be given to a Catholic priest to be properly attended. I informed her that it is not to be received by non-Catholics, and that even the Catholic laity may not possess it, other than to consume it immediately after receiving it from the celebrant.
She posted this on the page:
I have NEVER received so much hate mail! I have pulled the wafer per your requests. I AM NOT a Catholic and my blessings come from God. You do NOT have to be Catholic to meet the Pope.
I am VERY sorry for upsetting all of you.
She did try to accuse those who emailed her of sending “hate” emails, then to divert the issue to one of “meeting the pope,” which clearly is not where we have a problem. Recieving and keeping the Communion Host as a souvenier is a serious matter.

It is made well known that you must be Catholic to receive Holy Communion. And according to her own account, she and her husband “split” his Host, then she kept hers as a souvenier and now that the Pope has died, wished to cash in on it. 😦

My email to her was not published, but I expect that many emailed her, by the sound of it, causing her to withdraw the Host from the sale.

Now we can only hope that if this was, indeed, a consecrated Host, she will do the right thing and give it to a Catholic priest.

Oremus!

(PS - The photo of the Host looked pretty doggone fresh, as her original post said she’d gotten it from the Pope “several years ago.” Sure hope it wasn’t the real thing…)

Coming from an eBay seller–well, there are quite a number of scams there. Either ignore it, or report it.

I do feel sorry for the seller. As she explained, she’s not Catholic, so she’s not really aware of what she had done. I think those who threw hate at her (not saying it came from people here; there are a lot of viewers in eBay) should have been more charitable. I think she’s sincere (I always give people the benefit of the doubt), and like you and me want to earn a bit. I hope people have explained to her better rather than hate her.

I have privatly emailed her and asked politely that she take it to her nearest Cathoilc Church and hand it to the Priest, I have explained what it means to us.

I do not mean this in any demeaning way, but why are not concerned about this?!, what if it where the true body and blood of our God? and not just a scam? i think this is a horrible attitude to take. It has been taken off now, but even still, what if the same situation happened again, should we ignore it, and take the chance of profaininng the body and blood of Christ, by our act of omission?
Do you not care about The Body of Christ?

During the funeral coverage, I saw a priest watch a communicant to make sure she (maybe he, don’t remember) consumed the Host. Gave me more faith in our priests.

Could this be the Lord’s way of telling us that only those free of mortal sin should approach the altar, kneel humbly and receive Him reverently on our tongue? Might there be fewer incidents like these? This is beyond sacriligous. It’s ghoulish, pagan, anti-Christian, and horrific to say the least. But if you think about it, why are we shocked? Since many of us Catholics no longer approach the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with fear and trembling, rather approaching it as a community gathering, a communal meal, the notion that’s being foisted upon us by the “Mass Muderers,” then why not take some of the meal home as leftovers, so to speak, to share with others. Incidents such as these are unfortunately a sign of the times, one more place along the slippery slope, a further indication of the ignorance, irrevence, and rejection of the supernatural in our society. As Chesterton says, once the supernatural is removed from our society what is left is not the natural, but the unnaturaly. I’m disgusted by these incidents. Nothing is sacred if the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, His gift to us until He comes again, isn’t. That everything in our society is now seen through the eyes of profit and capital is sad. It seems as though render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s…has now become render to Caesar the things that are God. And to Hell with those who feel otherwise.
