Hey everyone! If you live in NYC like me you’re no stranger to these tracts Protestant Christians hand out in the subway.

For example this one (click to make the images bigger)

These tracts usually portray the (Evangelical? Fundamentalist?) Protestant view on salvation. That you need to accept Jesus as your Lord and savior.

My question is are these tracts Scripturally accurate? Are the scriptures used in the right context? In a nutshell what is the difference between the Catholic view of salvation and the view of salvation illustrated through this tract and tracts like this?

Nope. See my blog article Who REALLY Preaches “A Different Gospel”?

and then get a supply of these two rather excellent Catholic salvation tracts and give them to the guy handing out that stuff on the condition that it’s the only way you’ll take his…

That’s so awesome and amazing. I didn’t even know they had that

😃 A lot of folks don’t, but there are metric boatload of awesome materials available to help us share the faith. I keep a supply of several different types and topics around all the time and carry a few to give away or leave where I think they’ll find a receptive heart.

Some other awesome ones are from OSV.

Yes, they are correct scripturally. Look up the verses mentioned in their entirety. Search the Bible elsewhere about the requirements for salvation.

How does God save? In the Christian doctrine of salvation, God has rescued us through Christ (John 3:17). Specifically, it was Jesus’ death on the cross and subsequent resurrection that achieved our salvation (Romans 5:10; Ephesians 1:7). Scripture is clear that salvation is the gracious, undeserved gift of God (Ephesians 2:5, 8) and is only available through faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).

How do we receive salvation? We are saved by faith. First, we must hear the gospel—the good news of Jesus’ death and resurrection (Ephesians 1:13). Then, we must believe—fully trust the Lord Jesus (Romans 1:16). This involves repentance, a changing of mind about sin and Christ (Acts 3:19), and calling on the name of the Lord (Romans 10:9-10, 13).

A definition of the Christian doctrine of salvation would be “The deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who accept by faith God’s conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.” Salvation is available in Jesus alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12) and is dependent on God alone for provision, assurance, and security.

The Bible always has all the answers we seek. No other source is required.

:bible1:

Typical Kindergarten theology. Not a peep about baptism. One wonders how such individuals, in good conscience, can completely ignore the very words of our Savior in Matthew 28:19 and Mark 16:16. The reformation made baptism no longer a Sacrament, but reduced it to an ordinance. Once that is done, it was only a matter of time before baptism as an ordinance was also discarded.

I have never understood how anyone can read the teachings of Jesus and believe we are saved through faith alone. Jesus tells us exactly how we will be judged.

41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life
Matthew 25

At no point does he say, I didn’t hear you pray, or give out condescending tracts, or proclaim you love me. It’s obvious enough we will be judged by how we treat each other. We don’t have any street corner evangelicals in Toronto, or none I’ve ever seen, but I’d love to hear how they would justify salvation through faith alone in light of Matthew 25.

I don’t live in NYC–but yes I’ve seen hand outs similar to these before. Most end up in the trash anyway I suspect-whether they give them to Catholics, protestants or whomever. Don’t you always wish you had a similar hand out about the requirement of faith, good works and the role of the Catholic faith in salvation so that when they handed you one of theirs, you could hand them one right back and say something like “Here–I’ll read yours if you’ll read mine!” ?👍

What they teach about faith alone had never been taught until Martin Luther came along. There are tons of biblical verses in both Old and New Testament which states we will be judged based on our actions.

I posted this before, but in OT times there was never the belief of just me and God and my Torah. The Jews understood that the religious leaders were important. It’s unfortunate what these churches teach bc their teaching heresy, and it could lead to a lot of fallen away souls.

What these folks don’t realize, they quote from a Catholic Source (the bible). All those passages they quote to make their points, were all written in, by, for, those in the Catholic Church. Apart from the Catholic Church, there is no salvation.

Galatians 5:19-21 [19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are fornication, uncleanness, immodesty, luxury, [20] Idolatry, witchcrafts, enmities, contentions, emulations, wraths, quarrels, dissensions, sects, [21] Envies, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like. Of the which I foretell you, as I have foretold to you, that they who do such things shall not obtain the kingdom of God.

iow, dissensions / sects from the Catholic Church are condemned. And if one remains divided from the Church as the scripture says, there is No salvation for them.

Even though Paul wrote it, that teaching came from Jesus John 16:12-15

It looks like a pamphlet to convert other Christians to their sect of Protestant Christianity. Because it is loaded with Protestant Christian lingo. So it would sound like claptrap to a non Christian. It spends a lot of time talking about how no works are required. This is basically spelling out their creed that must be believed to be a “saved” member of their church. Why would they be so focused on explaining one doesn’t need works? It doesn’t make much sense to the bystander who knows nothing of Christianity. And it certainly is not Biblical. Once saved always saved is not a biblical teaching.

Yes, what they are teaching is false. Even when tet use words that can be taken in an orthodox sense, they mean something heretical. They are a very anti-Catholic organization. You can browse through their tracts on their website. Interestingly, they don’t have certain tracts listed in the English catalog that I know exist in English versions. However, they are listed in Spanish versions.

fellowshiptractleague.org/spanish.html

Look at “El Mandato para Maria por Los Catolicos” or “Amigo Catolico Romano.” I’ll excerpt from the English version of the former.

“Friend, you can be saved right now and know that you have eternal life. All you must do is place your complete faith in Jesus Christ, and stop relying on your good works, sacraments, church, or anything else to save you.”

Does that sound agreeable to you?

You can get a good overview of who they are and what they believe by clicking those two links.
Our Leadership
Pastor William Burrows was the director of the Fellowship Tract League for 5 years before becoming the Pastor of the ** Fellowship Baptist Church** in January 2013. The Fellowship Tract League is directed by Brother Chuck Stanbery, who is the Assistant Pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church. Both of these men strive to serve the Lord faithfully in reaching lost souls here and around the world.
So they are from a Baptist church somewhere. 🤷
The Bible
We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the King James Bible is without error, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.
And they are KJV onlyists.

BTW, that Mary’s Command tract is shown in English, but as was said the Dear Catholic Friend one is not.

Still in looking at what they profess to believe, we can pretty well figure out what the message is and how it will compare to the Gospel we find in the New Testament.

I have an article where I deal with the difference on my blog that’s called Who REALLY Preaches “A Different Gospel”?
