Do they still bless throats at your parish?

You guys are lucky…None of the parishes in my town do this

Yes, at my little NO parish the blessing of the throats was done on Saturday and Sunday as it is every year.

We had it after our OF mass on Sunday. My parish only offers OF masses. One thing that struck me as odd was that our pastoral administrator (a laywoman) assisted in the blessing, but apparently according to the Book of Blessings, this is allowed. She used candles, the priest did not.

For years our parish would do an individual blessing of throats as people approached the altar at the conclusion of mass. This year, for whatever reason, the priest did a general blessing of throats with raised candles but did not do the individual blessing. Most of the people wished that wan’t the case but we happy to receive the general one at the very least.

Oh, it’s been so long since I’ve had that done. It’s too far to get to the traddy chapel today, what with all the pick ups and drop offs of my children.

Weep,weep.

My old priest used this do this locally. A good Irishman. Dear God, I miss him!

Yes we did today much to my surprise, used candles, but this superceded the perpetual prayer of intercesssion for Mary which our priest does for every first tuesday of the month. Why he didn’t do both don’t know. I felt like he rejected Mary. And then we have the adoration procession and then rosary, and chaplet of divine mercy. So I guess he thought it would be too much.

Yes, at the parish I actually like (as opposed to the one whose boundaries I live in), they blessed our throats with candles, just like I remember. though they did it after the homily and not after Mass. if it’s an abuse I can live with it 😉

Being new to Catholicism, I didn’t know anything about this ritual until today when the Bishop came to our daily mass and blessed our throats after the mass!

And actually, my throat had been getting sore the past few days (I get strep throat all the time) and after the blessing I really did feel better! Better than normal even 🙂 Thanks Bishop Ricard and St. Blaise!

Yes, here at St. Joseph’s in Middletown,NY we still have the blessing of the throats. We also have a 24/7 Adoration Chapel and a weekly Sunday morning TLM and a TLM on every fourth sunday of the month. We are truly blessed. 🙂

At my OF parish, we have had the blessing of the throats every year as far back as I can rememer.

Yes they do, in fact I’m going to the Blessing of the throats mass at my church tonight at 7 PM. They also did it at my school (but not as an individual thing, more so as one blessing for the group in the room).

I’m sorry to hear that your parish does not offer the Blessing of the throats.

You all are lucky – Or should I say “blessed”?

Though (as I noted above) my parish imparted the blessing this morning, I was too sick to go! :crying:
I had a monster cold last week, and either the lingering effects of that, or the cold medicine made me too sleepy to attend. So I am still “cursed” with the last manifestation of that cold – laryngitis!

I think just about every parish in my Diocese does. Most in South Louisiana still hold on to those kinds of tradditions. (may day, crowning, corpus christi, blessing of the baskets, blessing of the throats, etc.)

Yes,we had the blessing at the 9 AM Mass!!!“Thank you Lord”
Many Blessings to All,Bob

They sure do! And since my confirmation name is Blaise, it makes me extremely happy!
