I’m not Catholic, but I thought Catholics believe that venial sins are automatically forgiven during Mass. So from a Catholic POV, wouldn’t venial sins be released from your souls during Mass?I know venial sins weaken the charity in us but the more venial sins we commit do they weaken our prayers?
Some people talk about going to confession regularly even if you haven’t committed mortal sins is this partly to release our many venial sins from our souls?
Thanks.
Prayer itself can easily remit venial sin. Simply say an act of contrition or make an act of love for God.I know venial sins weaken the charity in us but the more venial sins we commit do they weaken our prayers?

Yes, you are correct, any venial sins one has are forgiven during the Mass, however I think what the OP is saying, correct me if I’m wrong, is if you still have the venial sins on your soul. In that case I would say no, they don’t weaken our prayers or the effects of our prayers but they weaken us, our ability to receive God’s grace and follow Him.I’m not Catholic, but I thought Catholics believe that venial sins are automatically forgiven during Mass. Yes venial sin* can *be forgiven during Mass. (the word automatically though would not be apt).I’m not Catholic, but I thought Catholics believe that venial sins are automatically forgiven during Mass. So from a Catholic POV, wouldn’t venial sins be released from your souls during Mass?
The guilt is forgiven. What about the guilt attached to venial sins? Surely the guilt remains even when the sins are forgiven unless they are expunged when the sins are forgiven?
The guilt is forgiven.
Your thinking of the temporal effects of sin - they may not be removed yet or may be removed completely or partially. Hence the great gift of indulgences.

Venial sin involves also a disordered attachment to creatures by the nature of the sin- which have to be purified here or later by the purification of purgatory. Such may be fully removed at the time of forgiveness of the sin or may not be. Indulgences can by the intercession of the Church help all this more quickly.
