Do vows taken in the Latin rite prevent one from changing rites?

Hello.
I’ve been considering switching from the Latin rite to the Byzantine rite, but I have been enrolled in the brown scapular. Would such a thing prevent me from changing rites?

The brown scapular is a private devotion, as I understand it. Who enrolled you? Good to ask them.

As to vows in general, I believe that, if it is felt to be justified by one’s superior, that a dispensation from the vows may be obtained. CAF member JReducation (RIP???) had to request a dispensation to attend the funeral of a family member, as his Franciscan Order holds to the vow of poverty, which included the detachment from blood relatives.

However, mileage may vary on this.

There is nothing contrary in praying for souls and Carmelites, and wearing a sacramental (cross, crucifix, scapular).

A brown scapular is not a vow… I’m an Eastern Catholic who has been enrolled in the brown scapular? (I attend a Latin parish as there is no parish of my rite). So I hope it’s ok. I think a private vow wouldnt matter either.

Praise God! Not all that long ago, I mistakenly thought I knew it all and he very charitably schooled me. May any and all suffering be offered for eternal good, and may it be his purgation on earth. Amen.

Thanks guys! I also forgot to mention- I’m in the Confraternity of The Rosary. Failing to fulfill the obligation of praying the rosary 3 times a week does not result in a sin though. So that wouldn’t prevent me from changing rites either right? Sorry, I should have mentioned this before.

Brother Jay is still alive… at least as of a news item I saw a couple weeks ago; he just no longer visits the forums.
Is he about to pass?

Should we be praying for him for his imminent repose?

I never got to meet him here…

He has had health issues for some time and those continue, I believe. I try to keep up with him via the order’s news, but I don’t have any direct communication since he has left the forums.

Thank you…

I will pray for Servant of God Brother Jay…
