Do We Find God or Does He Find Us?

I’m new here so maybe I’m completely wrong…

It seems to me that so far everyone has missed the mark on this. (Sorry, not trying to make enemies right from the start!)

Does it matter if you find God or if God finds you?? I think what matters is that the Lord is reunited with a soul and a soul is reunited with the Lord. Who cares about the wording!?

The very fact that we are here on earth means we are the lost ones. We are suppose to be in paradise when our fore parents did not lost their ways GOD has prepared for them out of his LOVE. God never abandoned us even for the slightest moment. But, WE, because of sins decided to fall away from GOD. Stop sinning and you come closer to GOD.

I did not stop sinning before God told me He loved me almost 5 years ago and then I returned to the Church.

I here many reformed Christians say that they “found God.” Well that just doesn’t make any sense to me. God’s not lost. He knows where He is. We are the lost ones. We are the ones who need to be carried back into the fold.

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost.” Luke 19:10

“What is you opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray?” Matthew 18:12

Realistically. Neither.

God is certainly not lost. From God’s perfective neither are we, Psalm 139 attests to this.

But I think what has happened is we have lost ourselves. And in this state we feel we have lost God. In once more finding ourselves we find God because we realize that He never left us after all. We can only find our true selves in God.

We are not lost. But we are certainly trying to run away. But God is the Hound of Heaven keeping at our heels. Finally exhausted from fleeing, we stop running, and at that moment gets clasped tightly in His embrace. So we think we have found God.

I think many of us take the path of the prodigal son, I know I have. We start out with God, but decide to go our own way and do our own thing for a time. And during our excursion we realize what we had, that the world isn’t filling the emptiness in our souls, and we start the trip back to God. For some it might be a short journey back, but for others the trip is a bit longer. My personal journey is leading back to God, an He is running towards me with all His love and forgiveness. Yet I’m not to the banquet yet. There is still plenty of my will and not Thy will going on. My point is that I agree with the posts that say we run away or turn away from God, but He never leaves us.

And which ever you hold to be true does have implications on how you relate to God.

WHY DO YOU RUN AWAY? God loves first. Why run away when we have love Him back? Certainly along the way, something is missing… something we LOST and run away.

Actually the wording matters because truth matters. Only one of the propositions can be true. And which ever you hold to be true does have implications on how you relate to God.

The exact and precise reason we were [are] Created is to FIND GOD!

Archbishop Fulton Sheen whom I greatly admire, in his book The Life of Christ makes a poweful case that it is and has always been the case, that Gos is seeking a relationship with His Created humanity, far more urgently and consistantly, than we seeking a personal relationsip with our God. I have given the matter considerable prayer and reflection, and am in full agreement with his assement.

Not only is God our Creator, but He keeps us in existence. Were God to abandon us even for an instant we would all cease to exist.

It is God who called Adam: “where are you?” Gen 2., It is God who called Abram / Abraham, Noah, Moses, David and Solomon, the Prophets, His Mother Mary, John the Baptist, the Apostles,[in a speical and unique way; St. Peter], St. Paul and even me and you.**

Rom.14: 11 "for it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,
and every tongue shall give praise to God.”

Rev.19: 5 "And from the throne came a voice crying, “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great.”

Isaiah 43: 7 “every one who is called by my name,whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” v. 21 “the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.”

***Of HIGHLY signifiant note: One cannot attain Salvation without “finding God.”

What do you mean why do “I” run away? It is not just me who does it, everyone of us when we sin run away from God. Loving God is not just a “feeling”. Loving God means following Him and living out the Christian life (the life in Christ) and we fail that often.

Certainly along the way, something is missing… something we LOST and run away.

Sorry but this does not make sense. Are you saying that the something that we lost is the one that ran away?

It seems that God reveals Himself to certain people and these people are then to reveal how God Loves all of creation. Christ explains to us in John 17:20-26 that we who have been blessed with the knowledge of God’s Love influence others by our actions and words whether or not God is real and has really come to this earth for us.

The fact that we have been baptized does not mean that we have found God.Many Christians go through the motions of being a Christian some by going to mass on Sunday,some only on Christmas day and others may visit a Church occasionally when they are having problems in their life.But have all these people found God.Certianly God has blessed them or found them but certainly all of them have not found God yet,and some are not even searching for him and are utterly indifferent.
Even in my personal experience I found God late in life and the factor that greatly contributed to this was reading of Scripture.When one reads about prophecies that have been made and the realisation of these for example 2000 years after, it reawakens you and you begin to take notice that you have missed something and that there is indeed someone who has saved you from eternal damnation and will be there for you always.From my personal experience those of you who have still not found God should pray to the Holy Spirit and invoke his help.Sorrry for the long discourse but I thought I should give you the benefit of my experience
