(CNN) – Is anyone surprised that more than half of births to American women under 30 now occur outside of marriage? Or that marriage is losing ground in Middle America?
What’s the big deal? After all, some Americans believe that “marriage is just a piece of paper,” while others think that fathers are no longer essential.
Despite these worrisome statistics and views, the institution of marriage is not disappearing in American life.
An interesting opinion piece.

Marriage is what of the fundamental structures within society - we need marriage. Our entire society is in decline, I am not surprised that this would decline along with it.

Marriage is a blessed and important sacrament and is far too important to be relegated to being a piece of paper. For the sake of children, for the sake of the household, for the sake of society, marriage must carry on and must be respected as a vow between two individuals and God to remain true and faithful to one another until death do them part. I am very disheartened by the worrying trend of ignoring that latter vow.

Gee, look at this golden age we live in now that society has cheapened the meaning and value of marriage! Liberals and progressives, how’s that utopia coming along? We’re almost too that perfect society… just a few more foundational instituations to tear down!

I’m in a sacastic mood tonight.

CNN is not a centrist source. Sometimes provocative is just boring.
I am not quite sure what you are objecting to. The author of the article is director of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia. He concludes the article with this paragraph:
Given the importance of a strong and stable family life in children’s lives, our leaders should take actions that will strengthen the institution of marriage. The alternative is a future where children from some communities are consigned to increasingly unstable and unhappy homes. That is simply not acceptable.
