Do women get nervous before a date?

But the thing is you do this before you ask her on a date and the other stuff is when you are preparing to go on the date. They are different phases.
You check your car engine and plan your topics of conversation before even asking her on the date? 🤷

And what if she suggests something completely different to what you had planned? You’re not going to try to go with the flow?

Cars should always be properly maintained, if they aren’t then the owner is being irresponsible. You should be able to figure out what she likes from talking to her.

If she suggests something different than go with the flow.

Do people actually just ask strangers out?

Of course I’m a nonperson so my opinion on this topic is irrelevant.

I’m about to go on a big first date with a girl in a little over a week. I must admit that I’m getting a bit nervous/anxious. Do women get nervous, too?
No, women are a completely alien life form. They do not experience human emotions.

Car maintenance costs money. There are a lot of people who cannot even afford to see their doctor for regular check ups as we all should - much less afford to always have their cars in top nick.

And no, they may not be strangers but it can take a long time to get to know someone well enough to be familiar with all their likes and dislikes. And I don’t think such a high level of familiarity should be required prior to asking someone on a date - finding out about each other is part of the dating process, after all.

What kind of guy is setting up a date if his car doesn’t work? Can’t you just ask her friends what she likes to do? What kind of guy is going on a date if he is broke? Get advice from her friends. That’s easy.
I dated about 5 women before I met my wife, and let me tell you, it might be trickier than you think.

As a guy, I usually set up the dates. But I always tried to find the right balance between being 100% in control (and seeming, perhaps, domineering) or going out of my way to make sure it was the girl’s dream date (and seeming, perhaps, unconfident and ā€œweakā€).

If you know a few of her friends, all well and good. But, you might not.

However, let’s say you do. I once took a girl on a first date, and inquired with her friends (that I sorta knew in advance) about where she might want to go for dinner. I kid you not, they couldn’t even decide if she still was (or ever was) a vegetarian. One suggested it, then another said she likes steak… lol. What the heck?

Even if you figured out what kind of cuisine, there’s the matter of what price range you want to go for. Do we go to a casual restaurant? Does that make me look too cheap?

Or do we go to a fine dining establishment? Does that make me look like I’m going to be showering her with fancy French food throughout our relationship, when I can’t afford it? Could it make me look like I’m coming on too hard by blowing half a week’s paycheck on a single dinner?

Even paying for something can be difficult. Almost every girl I took on a first date attempted to pay half of her bill. But of those girls, they basically broke down into two groups: the first group was making the attempt to be polite, on the assumption that I may/may not have enjoyed the date. In the end, the first group wanted me to pay the full bill and would think less of me if I didn’t.

The second group, however, were girls that actually got offended if you tried to pay the whole bill. In their view, a date (especially a first date) was a mutual learning experience, and it was insulting to imply that they could not afford to pay their part of the tab.

Here’s another thing. On two of my first dates, I tried giving them a single white rose. One absolutely adored it. The other was, as far as I could tell, a little creeped out that I may have thought we were ā€œfurtherā€ in our relationship than we really were.

Another thing about asking friends questions. Sometimes I didn’t have friends of hers to ask, other times I did ask, sometimes maybe I asked a bit too much. There’s a balance again there too, I always wanted to plan a date that the girl would enjoy, but worried if I made it ā€œtooā€ perfect as she imagined it, then she would wonder where I got all of this information, figure out that I grilled her friends, and then feel like maybe I’m an obsessive stalker or something.

Finally, there are plenty of men that go on dates that aren’t loaded with money! Or that have occasional car problems! Are you kiddin’ me? You think we all have had fluffy office jobs our whole lives? Some of these men are called ā€œcollege studentsā€ or ā€œgrad studentsā€, entry-level retail workers or waiters! Others are, well, look at this economy in the States (and elsewhere.)

There’s no encyclical that says being poor or in the working class is an impediment to discerning the vocation of marriage!

Very enlightening. For the record, I would offer to pay my half, would not think less of someone who let me pay and would not think less of someone who paid for me šŸ™‚

Then there is the issue of whether a first date is too soon for kissing or other public displays of affection. Let’s face it, there must be a God otherwise we’d never sort the dating thing out šŸ™‚

Sometimes yes and sometimes no.
I wasn’t nervous for my last first date, which was with my hubby. It was kind of a pity date. We were in college and I met him at a mixer my sorority and his fraternity were having. He kept following me around and finally asked for my number. I didn’t want to give it to him, but he did remember my name so I felt obligated(there was peer pressure involved too) When he called me, I was shocked. Totally didn’t expect him to call. He had to basically talk me into going to dinner. I kept saying I had to study or do laundry. haha. Finally he was like, ā€œlook, it is a free meal.ā€ So, I went. hahaha. The rest is history.
We are counting down the days until he comes home from his deployment. I have to say I am getting nervous now. 😃

Thanks.

My wife is sitting right here and I just asked her about our first date. I asked her if she was nervous.

She said she was very nervous beforehand. She wanted to make sure her appearance was pristine. After that, she said she wasn’t nervous at all. She just made sure, in her words:
  1. To make sure there was nothing in her teeth.
  2. To try her best not to pass gas in any way.
  3. Avoid saying anything ā€œovertly crazyā€.
  4. Sit back and let me ā€œwooā€ her, since she knew how much I liked her.
Well, her and I are gonna have some talkin’ to do tonight, because of the wacky things I made myself do to ā€œwooā€ her… lol, I used up a whole week’s worth of energy in 4 hours to make her laugh and smile as much as possible,I took my coffee black because I mistakenly thought it made me look more manly… lol… and other things…

This marriage was simply meant to be, judging from the story. 😃

Well, girls don’t take longer getting ready for a date than a normal day for nothing. šŸ™‚ All the primping, in a way, comes from nerves. Even tom boy type girls tend to do something extra, even if it’s not make up or whatever. Yes, most girls get very nervous.

Clearly hair must be extra spunky

Of course they do. They can stumble, be fidgety, drop stuff on the floor, correct their unruly flocks or details of wardrobe 20 times in a row and other things. They could also stutter, go silent, turn red, become defensive, or act really silly. They’re also liable to ask you silly questions during or after the date. Sometimes they can also be very obvious about it without realising.

As a tom boy type girl I agree with this. I didn’t want to dress to girly and look like I was trying to be something I wasn’t, but I also didn’t want to look to tom boyish and turn off my date! I was always really nervous before dates, especially first ones.

When I met my husband it was awful. He is really quiet when he is nervous and I talk more when I’m nervous, so I’d just start ranting away about random things and he’d just sit and listen to me. We had both talked online before so I was worried his silence met I was saying the wrong thing and I’d talk even more! 😊 Haha. However, we are now very relaxed with each other and can hold a normal conversation šŸ˜›
