Do you agree with transgenderism

There are many different reasons why someone might develop gender dysphoria, ranging from genetic or hormonal issues, to parents sending a signal that they strongly preferred the opposite gender or treating the kid like s/he was the opposite gender. Mental health professionals are generally needed to help sort all this out.

There is no one cause of gender dysphoria or one reason why people have it.

It’s more likely that he’s gay because of what is called the “fraternal birth order effect.” According to Wikipedia:
A correlation between fraternal birth order and male sexual orientation has been suggested by research. Ray Blanchard identified the association and referred to it as the fraternal birth order effect . In several studies, the observation is that the more older brothers a man has from the same mother, the greater the probability is that he will have a homosexual orientation. It has sometimes been called the older brother effect . It has been estimated that 15% of the homosexual demographic is associated with fraternal birth order…

The fraternal birth order effect operates through a biological mechanism during prenatal life, not during childhood or adolescence. Direct evidence for this is the fact that the fraternal birth order effect has been found even in males not raised with their biological brothers – it has been determined that biological brothers increase the odds of homosexuality in later-born males even if they were reared in different households, whereas non-biological siblings, such as step-brothers or adopted brothers, have no effect on male sexual orientation.

Also, gay men are sexually attracted to other men, but that doesn’t mean they want to be women or wear dresses. So, I don’t know why a son would be gay because his father wanted a girl.

Being transgender is not fun. Transgender people face mental health problems at a higher rate than the overall population.
Of course they do. It doesn’t surprise me that the mental health problem that is transgenderism is part of a constellation that includes other mental health problems.

Compassion and treatment (including spiritual)? Of course!
Validation, enabling, “transitioning?” Of course not!

It is a disability, just like other disabilities.

We do not tell the person who is born diabetic or with a hole in their heart or blind or deaf or with club feat or a cleft pallet that he is “mentally ill”. That medicine has not yet provided a “diagnostic test” does not mean that we can flippantly tell someone “you are just seeking attention” or “you have a mental illness”.

If someone tells you “it hurts when I do this”, our response ought to be “I will pray for you” and compassion.

Compassion, understanding and patience are the Christian responses.

I don’t agree with it.
It’s like looking at the gender God made you, then shouting up to Heaven, “You’re wrong!”

What about people born with other disabilities or deformities. If your child were born with club feet, would looking for corrective surgery be looking at the legs “God made you” then
shouting up to Heaven, “You’re wrong!”

I doubt gender is comparable to a disability. Plus arguments for transgenderism often consist of “being born in the wrong body.” I doubt the same could be said for disabilities (or, I would hope not).

Neither medical science nor the Church knows the genesis of gender dysphoria. We are commanded to be charitable, especially when in doubt.

There is a difference between homosexuality and transgenderism

Even homosexuals are now trying to distance themselves from the LGBTQ as they do not want to be associated as being the same.

The LGBTQ movement today is a political movement based on the worse kind of assault on liberty.

You can call for having rights and not being mistreated, but the LGBTQ movement goes far beyond that

They seek to make laws forcing people to accept their lifestyles.

It’s a Marxist move and even gay people are starting to see it for what it is.

I don’t think the Church has a set view on this like it does with homosexuality. Personally I see it as a phase as He created us and we shouldn’t mess with His work.
But curious as to how most Catholics see (is it transgenderism?)?
See this from the Vatican website, from Christian anthropology and gender theory by Willem Jacobus Card. Eijk Archbishop of Utrecht

It is clear that discrimination against people and the use of violence against them must be rejected for their sexual orientation. However, the policies proposed to promote gender identity, implying the facilitation of such detachment from biological sex, go further. (Google Translate)
Given that gender theory is, in many respects, a serious threat to the spread of the Church’s doctrine and its own understanding, it is clear that Christian philosophy and theology must pay particular attention to this theory. We will do this in the following part from the point of view of Christian philosophical and theological anthropology. (Google Translate)
Attempts by radical feminists to guarantee the freedom of women to choose their own gender identity regardless of biological sex imply a contradiction. One intends to do this, freeing the woman, through contraception, from her specific role in reproduction, which compared with that of man would be an obstacle to her freedom. In a certain sense, an attempt is made to give women the same position as men, that is, they aim at a masculinization of women. This ultimately implies a contempt for the specific role of women, anchored in her being, and therefore a disavowal of her specific dignity. (Google Translate)

No. And a physical disability like a club foot is not a valid comparison to gender dysphoria, which may or may not have an organic component. Hence the apt term “mental illness.”

Nothing uncharitable about the term “mental illness,” either.

Just funny that the typo or auto correct came out as “Marist.” :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Does the Church really need to declare gender dysphoria to be a mental illness, when any rational person understands that’s exactly what it is?

The Church can, however, and does teach compassion for all those afflicted with all forms of mental illness, including gender dysphoria. Some have a spiritual etiology as well, no doubt.

And before anyone starts, I could care less what the Marxist APA has to say. Psychology is largely pseudoscience. And it ignores the very real deceptions of the devil.

Theology of the Body was a papal statement, and transgender is against it. God created us male and female, as directly outlined in scripture. Why mess with that? The Church shows evidence that is is against it. It just follows from everything it teaches.

Actually, St Pope John Paul II gave a series of 129 lectures that were gathered and published under the title “Theology of the Bible”.

They are not in and of themselves doctrinal statements, they do contain and expound on some doctrines, other parts are simply the good Saint’s learned opinions.

Many authors and speakers have made a career out of providing their own interpretation of these lectures.

Would you point me to the St Pope JPII lecture you are referencing that speaks about transgenderism?

I’m not referencing it. I’m just saying it goes against Theology based on what it espouses. A more important question: Why wouldn’t the Church be against transgenderism? But this may be getting off-track, as the main topic of this post is whether we agree with transgenderism. And as I said, I don’t.
