Do you believe in luck?

the randomness of life, being in the right/wrong place at the right/wrong time.

the flip of the coin. the roll of the dice, the turn of the wheel,etc.

some get cancer, some don’t. Poor Chris Reeves falls from a horse and gets paralyzed,another doesn’t, etc

doesn’t it seem some people just have good luck, some don’t.

what do you think?
 
Luck is another word for “chance” (or “coincidence”) which is an inevitable byproduct of life in a very complex system. Sooner or later some one is bound to be in the right (or wrong) place at the right (or wrong) time!
 
It would be hard not to believe in luck. Luck, as the previous poster said is random chance. A person who has a series of good events, winning money, given a car, new better job could be considered lucky because all the odds against those events happening in a short time span is not typical.

The sad thing is you can’t force luck. One could say, “I make my own luck” but “buying” the alteration of a normal outcome is not luck. Basically, it seems, whatever will happen, happens. The ever perplexing thought though is can or will God change an outcome to your benefit? Did some Christians while waiting to be thrown to the lions think they might get lucky and be saved from death?. As humans, they may have. They were faithful, but not lucky, on Earth.

The origin of life is the only place I do not see random chance working. But now, all the players are in place and all the surroundings are complete. As long as there is movement, "something’ will always happen leaning towards the development of luck. 🙂
 
Some people say, “You make your own luck”, but that’s all hogwash. Only somebody who has been lucky could say that.

Sure, you have to put out some effort to make good things happen, but keep your fingers crossed that some disaster doesn’t happen to you.

I’d like to say no, it’s all God’s will. But there is a lot of stuff that isn’t God’s will (which is why, for example, we had The Flood).

Just curious how the flood wasn’t Gods will?
 
I am not sure. I know that I do not believe in superstition because it brings bad luck. :D:D:D
 
I wouldn’t say that I believe in it but I kind of do. Some people are just born it seems to only experience misfortune. I think that ultimately it is Divine intervention and when it happens we call it luck. I just recognize that whatever happens God is in control and that is all that matters.

There are those who maintain that, if it weren’t for bad luck, they’d have no luck at all 🙂

They’re right. How could it be one-directional? That is to say, always advantageous or disadvantageous?

All is foreseeable by God, who leaves nothing to chance. No such thing as coincidence.

When Jesus prayed in the garden he said ,“Father take this cup from me…never the less thy will be done.” Christs death although horrible was Gods plan. The flood although terrible was Gods plan for a new beginning, just as the Christs death is a new beginning. The flood was Gods will from what study I have done.
 
It’s in the Bible:
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.

But is it the it appears “luck” only from a subjective point of view? Subjectively, many things are experienced as “lack” that’s more or less a universal experience. But objectively (if there is such a thing as objectivity), is the concept of ‘luck’ even meaningful.
 
i think there is. can’t put my finger on it, but have definitely known people with it.
 
I believe in coincidences. But not purely random chance.

Coincidences are logical. As is Divine Providence. But random chance is… not particularly logical.

Coincidences are the convergences of causal chains of events - as when a tile drops on some one’s head. There is no reason why it did so at the same time and in the same place as the person.

BTW God foresees coincidences.
