Do you believe in the Big Bang? (Merged) Is it Catholic dogma?

Science has to do with nature. It tries to understand the workings of the universe. And it has been pretty successful over the last 400 years.

Since God has created and is constantly creating nature, why do some people see science as the enemy? It should bring us closer to Him by better understanding His creation.

It is required for salvation to believe and confess that God created the Heavens and the Earth. All of us perform this Act of Faith at every Mass, confessing and witnessing, “I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.” That is required for anyone wishing to be saved, including you, as one part of Faith in our God.

The big bang, by the way, is not “creation”, but a scientifically speculated event in time based upon observation and experimentation and reason (all valid human pursuits), which means **within **creation, and composed of “energy and matter” which means it is a “creature” and not a spiritual occurrence.

Catholics are required to believe the interpretations of our Bibles that are provided to us by our Pope and Bishops in matters of Faith and Morals. We treat them as if they were Jesus teaching us. It was Pharisees and Sadducees and Satan who tried to interpret Scripture on their own to Jesus, but his disciples listened only to his explanations. He sent them, saying, “The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.” So, it is required for salvation that we listen to them who are successors to the Apostles. You were baptized; this is required of you also.

Yes…it’s both scriptural and scientific…“God said let there be light [and there was a massive release of energy and the universe has been expanding ever since, as a result], and there was light…and He saw that the light was good.”

However, the bible doesn’t deal with the intricate ‘science of how things work’’ (or how God makes things work) it deals with the salvation of our souls. (which is why what you put in the parenthesis isn’t in the bible). This is the part that others don’t understand when they make the bible out to be a science book rather than a Holy Book.

I’m not disagreeing with you.

God is the source of all things both spiritual and scientific.
 
FWIW, I ran a recent poll on this topic (the poll is not closed, but it is not attracting any recent responses).

A significant majority (more than 2/3) of Catholics ON THIS FORUM (where Catholic participants tend to be more knowledgeable about the Faith than many Catholics) have no problem with the Bang.
 
Sure I believe all the question needs to have to coincide with our beliefs are these two words. (by God…)

Do you agree that the universe was created (by God) according to the cosmological theory of the Big Bang?
