DOK, Please learn the meaning of Humility, Charity & Piety.
Then exhibit them.

So I went to chruch today and heard this statement at the sermon. “God teaches us to love, not religion, not the church, but the love of Christ”. I just want to know if this statement is true or not, and where in the bible did it come from. Thanks everyone
Your preacher would have a hard time explaining the Church in ACTS.
Obviously, he doesn’t know his bible very well.
If he is a Catholic priest, you need to pray for him1

Aboslutely correct.
Jesus came to establish a CHURCH. We are saved by the finished work of Christ - through this Church.

The CHURCH has ALL authority from Christ:
Matt. 16:18

**And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my CHURCH, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. **

Matt. 18:17-18
If he refuses to listen to them, tell the CHURCH. If he refuses to listen even to the CHURCH, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Jesus equates the CHURCH with his very self:
Acts 9:4-5

**He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me (the CHURCH)?” **
**He said, “Who are you, sir?” The reply came, *"I am Jesus (the ***
CHURCH), whom you are persecuting."

The CHURCH (NOT Scripture itself) is the pillar and foundation of truth:
1 Tim. 3:15

**But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the CHURCH of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth. **

Have you seen all the Christians around the world?

There are almost TWO BILLION CATHOLIC CHRISTIANS in the world. Add to that the protestants and you have about 250 million more non-Catholic Christians.

Are there more Christians than you’ve ever seen? Are Christians bound by a building?

Protestants are bound by their own buildings. The Catholic Church is seen as the Church Militant (on earth, the ‘visible’ Church - us), the Church suffering (those who experience purgatory) and the Church Triumphant (the Church in Heaven). So, as far as the ‘invisible’ church is concerned, two-thirds of the Church is invisible. I don’t know how you can arrive at anything different.-

I also think it means the church is bigger than any one church including the CC.

Of course. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I think the statement is narrow and confining. Of course God teaches us to love - to love the lord with all of our heast, soul, and mind, and our neighbors as ourselves. But that doesn’t prevent us from loving the Church (in fact it requires us to do so, since the Church is the communion of believers). In the Church is where the word is taught, and the sacraments are administered. We receive His grace in a very special way in the Church. What’s not to love?

sorta agree with that but yeah its like christians who say its not about religion, its about a relationship (with Jesus) which i understand where theyre comin from. cause it’s pretty true, but religion is like government, theres laws. man-made laws. but i still love bein catholic.

Dok,

Christians are not bounding by a building but they are bound by One Faith.

you can simply think that you can you can pick and choose what you want to believe and be part of the Church.

Please show me when this belief of invisible Church started.

the early Christians belong to the Church, the CC because they all believe the Teachings of the Church and were under authority just like today.
So you’ve seen all those who belong to Body of Christ??? Interesting.

My guess is if I don’t have these things after 35+ yrs of being a Chrsitan (or thinking I’m a Christian) there’s little chance for me to aquire them. I’m sorry I’ve failed you.

Doki: Have you seen all the Christians around the world?

Peari: There are almost TWO BILLION CATHOLIC CHRISTIANS in the world. Add to that the protestants and you have about 250 million more non-Catholic Christians.

Doki: If they are truely Christian, they are part of the invisible church Jesus established. Invisible because to many to be seen by all but God. Invisible because they are not part of just one church but many.

Doki: Are there more Christians than you’ve ever seen? Are Christians bound by a building?

Peari: Protestants are bound by their own buildings. The Catholic Church is seen as the Church Militant (on earth, the ‘visible’ Church - us), the Church suffering (those who experience purgatory) and the Church Triumphant (the Church in Heaven). Doki: First, I an unaware that protestants are bound by a building. Second, in the area I live in, the CC is closing down churches. The people whose churches are closing are upset. Seems then catholics are bound to a building too. Third, I don’t arrive at anything different then the church is invisible as I’ve pointed out why it is invisible. It’s visible too.

Doki: I also think it means the church is bigger than any one church including the CC.

Peari: Of course. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Doki: The church is more than the CC because it includes non-catholic Christians.

**The Church is an entity also. The one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church. The Catholic Church under the Peter’s successors. You are speaking to a catholic, remember. We believe that there is an entity known as the Church, not just a group of people. Protestants took that out when they left because they wanted to discredit the Church. **

those kinds of statements have always struck me the same way:
spoken by people full of pride and arrogance because they believe they are part of an exclusive cub that outsiders can’t be a part of unless some silly ritual must be undertaken.
Like little boys setting up a club in a tree-house with initiation rites.

I thank my God that He saw fit to destroy all such clubs and tore the temple’s veil to allow access to His Holiness to anyone longing and thirsting to be cleansed of sin and enjoy God’s presence.

That I don’t have to grovel to some person as sinful as myself for some rite to gain access to the living waters.

The Bible itself rejects the notion of an “invisible church”.
Please provide some sort of proof for your claim - otherwise, don’t make the false claim.👍

Matt. 5:14-16

**You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. **
**Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. **
**Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. **

Do you reject the Church, the visible Church? do you reject her teachings?

do you use the Bible is an excuse to exclude the Church Jesus built from your life/

does the Bible says Jesus promised to built a Church to teach all men? how is at that you substitute this Church for the Bible? how did you manage to do that?
