Do you believe people are born gay?

I believe it is not what you are born with that matters, but how you live your life. Will you live a holy life or not? We all have free will, so we must decide.šŸ˜‰

Blessings,

I am Roman Catholic single man, definitely a celibate heterosexual.

This is a very good topic. I have often thought about this for sometime. I think from reading this topic, I don’t think the issue can be solved whether they are born that way or if environmental factors are at play.

I think I need to pray more for homosexuals to be given the grace to resist their temptations, especially I pray that they quit hitting on me constantly. LOL! This is really is annoying. My friends in college used to joke about me being a ā€œFag-Mag.ā€ This is my own cross to bear as a heterosexual man, gay guys constantly hitting on me. Some of the admitted people on this forum who complain about having to deal with the heavy cross of same-sex attraction. Saying oh it is such a hard one to bear, etc, etc. Imagine being heterosexual man and least once a week getting overtly hit on by homosexual men; this really objectively happens. I have to deal with other’s perversions constantly. I think God must send them to me so I can pray for them.

I was a Sociology major in college: Did you know that the average amount of sexual partners statistically for a homosexual man in America is +300, the average amount of sexual partners for a heterosexual man is 30-35. Gayness for males is a much bigger disorder than people realize.

Michael.

Michael - thank you for your insight, and THANK YOU for your prayers. In my opinion, no group needs it more right now because so few are sympathetic enough to pray and support SSA strugglers.

Dousias - you are mistaken in so many of your beliefs. You would do well to study Catholic teaching on morality at the source that is her authoritative writings (encycyclicals, documents, papal teachings) and study the writings of the saints. Yet even without going to those lengths, the Bible itself, God’s Word is enough to answer your question: What would God do? God has already said what he would do.

Your premise about the small number of times homosexual relations are condemned is also flawed. Using such logic we would have to assume that Hell is more important than Heaven as Jesus mentioned it so much more often than he spoke of Heaven.

Having an attraction to the same sex is disordered and stems at least in part from developmental deficits. Believing it is a disorder **IS NOT **intolerance.

In fact, labeling people as such in these conversations only escalates the animosity on both sides of the debate.

I for one wish to condemn only true hatred, not those who are merely stating their belief however brusquely.
I love all gay identified souls, those who identify as lesbians, as bisexuals, transgenders and more. And because I love them I share truth with them, I pray for them, and I work for them to encourage them to live chastely, to seek support groups and have HOPE in God’s plan for them.

I ask this question seriously, and I hope it does not come across as condescending.

What if they are perfectly happy in their same sex relationship and do not care what your thoughts are on the matter?

Since I was a Sociology major I would like to report to you what I found interesting from class.

Apparently, surveys report that when a homosexual man and another man get married (civil marriage) the vast majority of them do so with the intention that it is going to be an open relationship. Meaning they both understand that one/both is going to be bringing other men into their bedroom from time to time. This is not like a married man and a woman who intend to observe strict monogamy.

Michael.

WHAT???

Your not considering running for Congress are you.

And I was only thinking that maybe something went wrong in your life and you have to take it out on the world.

you go on with so much S!#* Maybe congress is were you belong.

and I’ve got a funny feeling your going to have the last word.
Dear Sir,

This is a forum for the exchange of ideas, thoughts, concepts, ideologies and even random ravings. I am having a blast sharing my thoughts on this list and you in particular have been the impetus for quite a bit of the discussion so far. Thank you for stepping up to the plate and providing the spark that ignites my passion.

Blessed be, Dousias

And if they are happy cannibals, should you leave them in peace? šŸ˜‰ But the lesson of the last twenty years is that gays are not happy, but are rather angry people who want to use the power of the state to keep us from "judging’ them.

And of course removes the barrier to polygamy.

**On CONSCIENCE **and its correct formation from the Catechism.

THE FORMATION OF CONSCIENCE

1783 Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings.

1784 The education of the conscience is a lifelong task. From the earliest years, it awakens the child to the knowledge and practice of the interior law recognized by conscience. Prudent education teaches virtue; it prevents or cures fear, selfishness and pride, resentment arising from guilt, and feelings of complacency, born of human weakness and faults. The education of the conscience guarantees freedom and engenders peace of heart.

1785 In the formation of conscience the Word of God is the light for our path,54 we must assimilate it in faith and prayer and put it into practice. We must also examine our conscience before the Lord’s Cross. We are assisted by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, aided by the witness or advice of others and **guided by the authoritative teaching of the Church.**55

…

IV. ERRONEOUS JUDGMENT

1790 A human being must always obey the certain judgment of his conscience. If he were deliberately to act against it, he would condemn himself. *Yet it can happen that moral conscience remains in ignorance and makes erroneous judgments about acts to be performed or already committed. *
1791 This ignorance can often be imputed to personal responsibility. This is the case when a man "takes little trouble to find out what is true and good, or when conscience is by degrees almost blinded through the habit of committing sin."59 In such cases, the person is culpable for the evil he commits.

1792 Ignorance of Christ and his Gospel, bad example given by others, enslavement to one’s passions, assertion of a mistaken notion of autonomy of conscience, rejection of the Church’s authority and her teaching, lack of conversion and of charity: these can be at the source of errors of judgment in moral conduct.

1793 If - on the contrary - the ignorance is invincible, or the moral subject is not responsible for his erroneous judgment, the evil committed by the person cannot be imputed to him. **It remains no less an evil, a privation, a disorder. One must therefore work to correct the errors of moral conscience. **
1794 A good and pure conscience is enlightened by true faith, for charity proceeds at the same time "from a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith."60

The more a correct conscience prevails, the more do persons and groups turn aside from blind choice and try to be guided by objective standards of moral conduct.61

Hi Carla,

All these notes were written by others. What does your conscience and experience say?
What does your heart say?

Robby, gotta call you on this one… What lesson happened in the last twenty years? Gays are not happy? Gays are angry? I think you will find they share the same emotional range as everybody else does. I also think that a general poll of the LGBT community would strongly indicate they really value family and friend’s opinions way more than that from organized religions that speak out strongly against them.

Hi Michael, surveys? Do you have actual data we can look at? Okay, let’s get to brass tacks… Do you know as many gay couples as you do straights? I do and I’ll tell you they both are mostly monogamous. Not all, but most. The gay couples I know, and that is about a dozen, are very loyal to their partners. I also know two that are polyamorus and have multiple loving relationships.

This brings up the sad fact that more than half of all marriages fail. Gay and straight at nearly the same rate. (Educated guess on the last part!)

So what? A person should still condemn same sex relationships regardless of whether or not the ā€œcoupleā€ cares about your thoughts on the matter. Same sex relationships are gravely sinful and should not be allowed.

Carla,

Don’t take what I say personally, okay? It’s not meant as an attack, it’s just my opinion.
All I ask is you think about why you think what you think!

You are explaining an opinion or belief that originates within a system. I am doing the same but from outside that system. It’s a fact that when we are inside a system we cannot know all that there is to know about that system because our perspective is limited by the boundaries of the system itself. Think about that thought. Example: We sit on the board of a major company. Our world is that company. We visualize the rest of the world from within our system and make decisions based not on the world at large, but from our corporate world. But when we escape the system we see the world’s view of our company is at odds with our local world. See what I mean? Examples abound if you give the concept some thought.

Carla, you are inside a system. That that you have learned came from sources within that system. You are not thinking about what the world thinks but what the system thinks. Ask this important question: Does my thoughts on this subject come from my creative, rational thought processes or am I repeating someone else’s thoughts?

I challenge you to step outside the boundaries of the system and see if you really do think the same way as when inside. You can always go back inside. Carla, I’m not challenging your belief system, that is yours forever. Just step outside and think a little about the world at large.

It’s not just you, it’s all of us including me. I try to think outside the box I’ve created that might be keeping me from grasping a new truth.

Blessed be, Dousias

Right on Dousias, I was involved in the Gay community for 50 yrs, & they do share the emotional range as You said it the same as everyone else, also I might add, I have known some very very fine people who are gay. They like to laugh, they like to have fun, they hurt sometimes like all of us, and they are very human
Also a lot of them have no interest in marriage to their partners, I would say much more don`t then do

Dousias- The sad part is you’re serious. Truth is a not subjective -nor does it originate within a system of beliefs. Truth exists. It is. This reality is why Jesus called HImself the Truth, the Way and the Life. There is no other.

St. Paul teaches us to ā€œbe ready to give reason for the light within you.ā€ The Catholic Church Has ALWAYS done just that. None of her teachings are contrary to reason or natural law. That is precisely why I encourage you to read her official and authoritative writings more sincerely. Leave your hatred of the so-called ā€œsystemā€ you think she represents at the door and scrutinize her every word with an open mind and heart. I guarantee you will find nothing that goes against logic or reason.

You will however find much that goes against the thinking of this world. And that is just as it should be, just as Our Lord promised the apostles it would be.

In fact dear Dousias, it is when your thinking aligns with the modern world that you should be most concerned for your immortal soul. I know I am.

So what? A person should still condemn same sex relationships regardless of whether or not the ā€œcoupleā€ cares about your thoughts on the matter. Same sex relationships are gravely sinful and should not be allowed.QUOTE]

When you say that same sex relationships should not be allowed, surely you are only referring to the legality of same sex marriages??? Obviously you are not in favor of the police barging down the doors of suspected same sex couples and hauling them off to jail.

Dousias,

I will try and find those surveys, I sold my textbook a several years ago.

I also reported on the average number of sexual partners of homosexual men being +300 partners.

This is one study I found…
In the late 1970s, A.P. Bell and M.S. Weinberg, in their classic study of male and female homosexuality, found that 43 percent of white male homosexuals had sex with 500 or more partners, with 28 percent having 1,000 or more sex partners. In the late 1990s, a study of the sexual profiles of 2,583 older homosexuals published in Journal of Sex Research, found that only 2.7 percent claimed to have had sex with one partner only. The most common response, given by 21.6 percent of the respondents, was of having a 101 to 500 lifetime sex partners.33

Dousias is the above study something you have observed among many homosexual men?

In the meantime, I will try and find the studies about homosexual men having intents of an open relationship when married.

Dousias,

Here is a similar study on what I was looking for about the intent of remaining monogamous when married.

85.5 % of women and 75% of men have been faithful (haven’t committed adultery) to their partners in heterosexual marriages, while only 4% of homosexual marriages have been faithful in monogamy.

Here is a great website for statistics… frc.org/get.cfm?i=IS04C02

Sorry I didn’t paste your comment before, so I felt I had write this again with a paste of your comment so you would notice it.

Study 1:
