Do you believe that practicing ABC is morally permissible? Answer if your Catholic only please.

This is in reference to this thread.

It was stated in that thread recently that 95% of Catholics believe that ABC is morally okay to practice. Specifically posts #548 and post#549 refuted this.

To that remark I stated.

know that many on this forum do not believe that ABC is right. IN fact, I would encourage you to start a poll and let’s see if the 95% holds true. In fact I am going to start one right now.

So if you are willing to take some time out, please vote in this poll and let’s see what 95% of this board things. I was interested to find out the actual percentage of voters.

I left the poll to where others could see who was voting, as I am interested only in bona fied Catholic votes here. And I could talley up the results.

I voted no but have had a tubal ligation. If I could do it all over again, I would not have had the surgery.
 
Can I vote since I haven’t even started RCIA yet?

But no, I don’t find it morally permissible. I actually believed this before I joined the Church, since it was my interest in natural law that brought me into it.

You didn’t make the poll anonymous, so you’re not going to get a true count 😉

Also note, you’re asking what we believe…not what the Church teaches. Also note, that for a practicing Catholic, it doesn’t really matter what we think…we still have to follow Church teachings. That said…

Though it is against Church teaching to practice any ABCs, I personally don’t believe it’s immoral to use ABCs. What it is, IMOHO, is simply against Church teaching, and therefore should not be done if one wishes to follow Church teaching. And it’s as simple as that for me. If one wants to be in Communion with the Church, they don’t use them. If someone doesn’t care to be in Communion with the Church, then that’s their decision to make.

For example, I don’t believe there are any “moral” implications when married couples use condoms, though I know well that Catholics are not allowed to use them, according to Church teaching, and therefore if they do use them, they would breaking Church rules and going against Church teaching.

And for example, I don’t believe there are any “moral” implications for taking plan b in the emergency room after a rape. Note that the USBishops allow it as long as the rape victim tests negative for pregnancy to make sure she isn’t already pregnant from before the crime, and they also require she tests negative for ovulation.
 
I voted NO. Never is it morally permissible to use ABC,(except for medical reasons, which do not result in the prevention of children). The Church has forbid it, and has always taught it was unacceptable and a grave sin. We are not in the position to disagree with the teachings of God’s church! 🙂

P.S. In regards to 95% of Catholics think it’s alright to use ABC. I don’t think that’s right, and if it is, WHERE IS THE CATECHESIS?
 
might be a silly question, but what does ABC stand for in this case?
 
A person may well think it is wrong to use contraception, yet use it anyway. The forces in this culture strongly push one to use it, especially if the couple is somewhat divided on the subject of the Catholic Church.
 
And you rephrase the question…ABC is a misnomer…it should be Contraception.
 
Let’s do like (some) Protestants do – take a vote to decide whether a certain behavior is a sin.

This is the method used by the Anglicans/Episcopalians to bring the Christian world for the first time the approval of contraception (1930), abortion on demand, active homosexual clergy, and women priestesses.

Certain Presbyterians recently voted to approve homosexual clergy in their churches.

Everybody in favor of extra-marital sex say YES. That settles it.

Every use of a contraceptive – except for non-contraceptive medical reasons – is a mortal sin. Sin is not a matter to be voted upon. Roma locuta est, causa finita est. Rome has spoken, the case is closed.

The truth is still true even if nobody believes it; error remains error even if everyone believes it.

I do not think such was their intention…

But your right…truth remains truth and error remains error…

In the beginning…the culture around the early Christians was quite bad…we had to be light in the midst of darkness…and things slowly changed…today things are beginning to bare resemblance to those times… (thankfully though the leaven of the Gospel still has shaped society long enough that much is still good) …

let us proclaim Christ just as they did!

In him is true life.
