Alright, it just baffles me how easy it is for some people to ignore history. Its like every person has to re-invent the wheel and learn how to make fire all over again in this generation before they believe its possible. I understand that you have trouble in seeing the interpretation the Church has for this passage, but the fact remains you are ignoring the teachings of a lot of great men who we know had incredible insight into the Word. Also your insight into the passage still ignores the word choice used in the bible. “Wasted” is not a positive term and implies that God believes at the very least that some respect should be shown for the seed that gives life. There are a lot of things left out from your interpretation as well, that you seem to wish to ignore. Also look at Deuteronomy 25:5-10. This passage describes the exact same circumstances as what Onan found himself in, and notice what the penalty was in that circumstance. Your argument is then left upon the fact that Jesus was supposed to descend from this line. Also, notice that the Onan passage says “What he DID was wicked in the LORD’s sight; so the LORD put him to death also.” What did Onan do? What did Onan do that was deserving of death? The act of not fathering a child is not an act that was deserving of death as seen in Deuteronomy. He married Tamar which meant he was no longer under the command to obey his father therefore he didn’t break the 4th commandment. This leaves the action of wasting his seed on the ground as the act which was deserving of death. You can argue that because Jesus was supposed to come from this line that adds gravity to the situation, but doesn’t change the fact that God was unhappy with Onan for wasting his seed.

Also, you seem to think Onan was raping Tamar however its clear that they were married first as seen by the command that Judah gives to Onan and rape implies that Tamar did not want to be involved in the act.

These posts baffle me… Practicing A B C D E F G is not morally permissible?

Hiya CAF.

This is in reference to this thread.

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=8096397#post8096397

It was stated in that thread recently that 95% of Catholics believe that ABC is morally okay to practice. Specifically posts #548 and post#549 refuted this.

To that remark I stated.
Code:

So if you are willing to take some time out, please vote in this poll and let’s see what 95% of this board things. I was interested to find out the actual percentage of voters.

I left the poll to where others could see who was voting, as I am interested only in bona fied Catholic votes here. And I could talley up the results.

God bless you
What difference does it make, we are not a Church built on teaching that is brought about by polling…

I voted NO. Never is it morally permissible to use ABC,(except for medical reasons, which do not result in the prevention of children). The Church has forbid it, and has always taught it was unacceptable and a grave sin. We are not in the position to disagree with the teachings of God’s church! 🙂

God Bless :signofcross::byzsoc:

P.S. In regards to 95% of Catholics think it’s alright to use ABC. I don’t think that’s right, and if it is, WHERE IS THE CATECHESIS?
With all due respect to my Catholic brothers and sisters, this is not a “management” problem at the Church and some don’t even know what the word catechesis means. Have you gone to a movie or watched TV lately? Been bombarded with viagra commercials? THAT is the catechesis that drives 100 Sunday sermons out of your head.

Dating?
Courtship?
Engagement?

Do people even ask each other what they want out of marriage BEFORE the ceremony?

Today, if you watch the pagan media, you will NOT see GOOD role models. You will see two attractive actors playing wealthy individuals refer to their sexual encounter from last night as ‘just sex,’ like using a toilet.

How many people jump into the sack and ask questions ONLY after the ceremony? Reason being, that ‘I’m not gonna marry anybody until I know the sex is good.’

That’s why a total doll I met told me the following: “I’m divorced.” What happened? “I found out my husband was a nut and I had to kick him out of my house.” How long were you married? “Three months.”

WAKE UP. NO ONE is going to do it right For YOU.

Peace,
Ed
