Do you dream about God or the saints?

I would love to but I am not sure where the forum draws the line between dreams and revelations and I don’t want to cross it.
I’ll take a chance. But consider that I am a convert and not yet confirmed.

I went on a “Retreat for Men” at a religious retreat house a few months ago. The retreat was Friday through Sunday. And the retreat house has a chapel with a tabernacle. I had been on a retreat there before and realized that the chapel was always open at night and nobody will say anything about somebody who wakes up in the night and feels a need to spend some time in Eucharistic Adoration.

Well, I thought about (but wasn’t going to) sleep in the chapel not far from the Holy Presence of the Lord. And why not? I considered how little Samuel had heard the Lord call him (see 1 Samuel chapter 3). And I also considered how Jacob had slept in a place which was God’s abode and dreamt of a ladder with angels going up and down (see Genesis 28:11-17).

Since it was still fall, the retreat house had not yet started their central heat. And because I have a health condition, I awoke in the night and needed another blanket (one extra was nicely folded in each room). About half an hour later, that thin extra blanket was not enough so I got another one from a vacant room. And another half hour later I was still too cold and could not sleep. I remembered from the earlier retreat that there were some very thick blankets next to the fireplace in a meeting room. So I went out to the meeting room and got a nice thick blanket.

The chapel was between the meeting room and my small bedroom. Since it was so convenient I thought I’ll stop in to spend some time with the Lord. This is one of the best things about being Catholic instead of merely being a Protestant. That you can go and spend peaceful and restful time so close to Jesus. And after awhile I got up to leave (or to find a place to rest in the chapel). And I found a nice bench in the chapel just wide enough and just long enough to curl up on and sleep. Why not go for it. So I did.

I had no dream. And I slept in the warm blanket for perhaps only 20 minutes or so at the most. I figured that I had my turn – of sleeping over near Jesus. Somehow I had this idea – look at the picture on the wall over the bench. I’m not sure I knew there was a picture there. And it was too dark to see it. So I took the warm blanket back to my bedroom figuring to look at the picture when it was daylight.

Note that I am a convert. And since the earliest time that I began going to Mass a little more than three years ago I have considered myself to be that lost lamb (1 of 100) that Jesus went to look for. And having been found, Jesus continues to carry and care for. This little lamb is hardly in much shape (environmentally) to care for himself yet. There are too many difficult circumstances that I do not yet know how to unravel.

When I saw the picture the next morning, it was so comforting. The picture was of a very loving and merciful Jesus tenderly holding a little lamb.

No dream. No audible voices. No vision. But definitely an encounter with our loving savior, Jesus Christ.

Joel 3:1 “Then afterward I will pour out my spirit upon all mankind. Your sons and daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions;”

I’m almost 53. I have age spots. My hair is probably grey, but my wife dyes it. I figure I’m allowed to dream dreams. I’m closer to being an old man than being a young man.

Generally, I sleep with a Rosary inside a sock which I wear on my right hand. Whenever I grasp a Rosary in my hand, this is my non-verbal way of asking Mary to be near and to watch over me. Perhaps to hold my hand or to have an angel hold my hand. In this regard, I am a needy child. I am one who feels a need to be held.

I have a son and a daughter. When they were infants, my son really didn’t care about being held. But my daughter wanted to be held a lot. We are all different that way. At the time I was more attached to my daughter because she needed me more.

I hope you are needy like me and that you often tell Mary somehow to be near and watch over you. I hope you are needy like me and often desire to be close to Mary.

Probably I’m talking like this because it is bedtime.

Good night and may God bless you,

I had a dream about Jesus when I was about 8 years old and I have never forgotten it. I was laying in my bed when Jesus appeared with two children on either side of Him. They were all dressed in white. The children had short, black hair and were holding His hand. They didn’t look earthly - very unworldly, like little angels. He was smiling. There was a white staircase made out of clouds going into my bedroom window.

I remember gasping and saying, “Jesus!” He said to me, “Do you want to go to Heaven?”

I shook my head yes and answered Him enthusiastically.

He then said something so not what you’d expect Him to say, but this was a dream, after all. He smiled again at me and said, “Well, the last one up is a rotten egg.”

We all raced up to the top of the stairs where Heaven was. When I got up there, though, He said to me, “I’m sorry, (my name), it’s not your time.” I remember being sad about it. He then gently gave me a push or I fell on my own, but I had to roll back down the staircase and back into my bed. Then the staircase disappeared. That was it.

I have only had one dream with Jesus in it but it didn’t make much sense to me. Sometimes I feel a little bad about that - that I don’t dream more about Him…

I think I was around 8 or 9 years old, and we were living on the island of Guam at the time. I remember having a dream where I was wandering around our house - I think I was heading out the kitchen door to school - when I stopped by our laundry area near the kitchen and I heard the voice of God speak to me saying something like, “I am the Lord your God.” I knew at that moment, both in the dream and after I awoke, that I was meant to follow Him and know Him. I’ve never forgotten that dream!

I don’t recall dreaming about God, Jesus, or the saints, but I do recall dreaming about religious experiences quite often. Usually I am in a church, or trying to get into one, so I can be close to the Blessed Sacrament. I have also dreamed about ascending into the dome of a beautiful church, which I think was inspired by an Orthodox church where I once went to a wedding.

I dont dream often but when I do invariably it has something to do with nuns…drives me batty!😃

I had a dream when I was about 14 or 15. I can’t recall it too clearly but I distinctly remember the emotions I felt at the time in the dream. Jesus was standing watching me. and I was watching Him. He was trying to say something to me but I couldn’t understand Him. The earth suddenly opened up between us and Jesus started to recede into the distance. I remember feeling anguish for Him and devastation that I had lost Him. When I woke up all I could remember was that I had dreamt about jesus and that it was upsetting. Looking back on it nowadays that dream happened around the same time I started to doubt the Catholic Church and I walked a path that led me away from it for a long time.😦
Thankfully though I have returned to my childhood faith, and I never want to go through that anguish again.

I haven’t for a while now now, but I used to dream a lot about the saints. In one dream, I was ice skating on a pond with St. Bernedette, St. Therese of Liseaux, and St. Francis. I was afraid to go out on the ice, but St. Francis (who was only about 12 years old in the dream) helped me, and then we had lots of fun.

When I get better at lucid dreaming, I will be able to dream about God and the saints on purpous. That will be wonderful! You can read my dream journal here (though I don’t have many good dreams at present)- www.matmice.com/home/dream_journal

I like to read about stories about angels and how Jesus manifests himself to people when you need him. Well, one day I read about how this person knew who her guardian angel was. She said when you are almost waking up but you are still in that sleep mode but aware, ask your angel what their name is and they will tell you.

That night I said to myself I will ask. I woke up the next morning but I still had my eyes closed, I was sleepy but conscious so I asked. My assumptions have always been its a male angel with an old name. The voice said her name was Tatiana. I said that name doesn’t sound old, I know a girl named Taytianna. She repeated my name is Tatiana and told me the spelling of her name. She mentioned to me to go to the internet and look her up.

A few moments later I woke up. I was curious so I went to the Catholic website and looked under the saints and clicked on T. She is Saint Tatiana who lived around 200 AD.

As I searched the web for more information, she told me that my focus should not be on her but on Christ.

I realized that the womanly voice I’ve been hearing is her. She guides me when I need it.

I also know that God talks to me. If you just listen you will hear Him. For the most part its just a few words, but they are powerful words. He reveals things which I could not have thought myself.
:o :angel1: :hug3:

I went to sleep around midnight, so it was the end of Thanksgiving day and the beginning of my wife’s birthday. She came to bed after I was already asleep for a while. I woke up while having a waking dream, and it only lasted for a few seconds. The best way I can describe it is God let me experience the magnitude of His love.

I didn’t see or hear anything but I knew God was there. I felt so much love for my wife that I can’t even describe it. It was like I was vicariously feeling God’s love for my wife, but was also feeling His love for all of us. Then I woke up the rest of the way and told her about it. It was very mystical and I feel it was a gift from God.

Peace,

Ryan 🙂

i have had lots of dreams about angels…jesus, mary…my deceased family members etc…some of it seems nonsense…and other times the message (for myself/family members) ends up being true…

i’ve heard from several places (websites and people) that before you go to sleep you can pray to god, guardian angel, jesus, holy spirit, saints etc…and tell whoever you are praying to whatever is worrying you and about your problems…and ask to receive an answer in your dreams…
then maybe that night of days later you may have a dream that will help you and give you the answer to your worries…that may or may not include seeing any of the above in your dream…at the end of the day we can ask god for some help…but whatever way he sends it is up to him…and like i said before some dreams turn out to be useful…others are just nonsense

ANGELIC PEACE

Yes. I have had many spiritual dreams. But I’m not going to describe them here. This is not the place and besides you’d all think that I am nuts. But God has sometimes shown me things in my dreams that have prepared me for future events in my life (many years in advance). They never occur exactly as the original dream but have come pretty close. Those are the ones I never forget.

I had a dream once, maybe half a year ago, when I was making a novena to St. Therese, the little flower. I had the dream on I think it was the eighth day of the novena.
I dreamed that I was standing in my back yard, and it was snowing very hard. One of the snowflakes turned into the face of St. Therese, (It was sort of weird like that) and she said, “I have a rose for you.” Then I looked down, and there was a yellow rose lying there, almost all covered in snow. And I said “Thank you” and I took the rose. Then she said, “But don’t you have a rose for me?” And I said, “No, I don’t have a rose for you.” Then I woke up.

not in the way you mean, or the experiences others have described (loved 'Last one up is a rotten egg"–reminds us we must become as children to enter the kingdom!)

it is rather common for me that if I pray specifically to the Holy Spirit before bedtime about a decision or problem I wake with the answer or some guidance. I imagine that my prayer releases me from the bondage of my own will, abilities and intelligence and frees me to let God work in the situation, and frees my waking mind to recognize his will in the instance.
