Interesting…can’t imagine there are too many lifters in this forum…but…

Yes, I lift. Love it. Only been properly strength training for about a year now, just as a way to keep in some shape and maintain health and fitness (now that I’m mid-30s). I’m not trying to bulk or aim to get into powerlifting, just trying to keep in shape. I’m a member of the local YMCA, go about three times a week, and base my routine around the three big compound lifts - deadlift, squat, benchpress. I do one of these at the start (after a warmup) for about 5 sets of 5 reps (2 warmup sets up leading up to three working sets) followed by relevant assistance excercises - especially dips, chinups, rows, DB presses, and of course bicep curls etc…for my “mirror muscles”. Happy with my progress so far, but looking forward to lifting heavier too.

Yes, being female I enjoy group fitness (Body Pump) for most of my lifting and augment with individual workouts.

FYI my favorite magazine inspirations are FitnessRx and Oxygen. Some of the others show a skinny model type lifting 2 lb weights…ugh. Not trying to look like a She Man but just keep things toned. Nothing like waving and find your arms wave back.

Spend as much time as I can in the gym, have done since my early 20’s and I reckon its paid off. I lift weights to try get some definition but concentrate on aerobics as hoping to walk the
Camino de Santiago in August. Ladies I recommend it and it’s good to see lots my age and even older there, good for mind, body and friendship.

Sure, been lifting since 1977. Has definitely contributed to my quality of life and physical well-being.

Will be a pleasure, walking late August. No more kids at home and got to do these things when the body is still able. Thanks Lisa.

I am a 40 something female who LOVES to lift, and lift heavy. Keeps me in somewhat decent shape at my age and provides a good physical outlet.

Not at all, which is ironic as I currently sell fitness equipment to gyms for a living 😃 I did lift quite a bit in college, but with 3 kids and work who has the time?

I am in the gym 4 days a week for about 40 minutes been cutting back days and hours as I have been getting older :). But I have been working out on a constant basis for the last 23 years. I so shoot the BMI also lol.

I used to but got into the outdoors and moved on to that instead.

I weight train and swim.
Don’t know why, but I never would have guessed this in a million years. Respect.

My husband is an olympic style weight lifter. He competes and frequently wins local and regional competitions. His job can be stressful and weightlifting provides a bit of a pressure relief valve. Plus, he’s always been very athletic, and I think he enjoys being the strongest guy in the room.

Due to his influence, I “dabble” in weightlifting too, but I work out only about twice a week. My body type is such that I can get very muscular very quickly, and while I enjoy the heath benefits and I like being strong, I don’t like the look. Consequently, I’m more of a runner and swimmer.

This is one of the reasons why I love to lift. My mind switches off all the stresses for a while. It’s just about the only time my mind ever switches off actually. I find it next to impossible to think about much when I lift heavy. Lifting heavy engages the mind so much…if you’re not thinking clearly about lifting, there’s no way you can pull a big dealift off the floor, or push out of the bottom of a heavy squat.

I love lifting. I use to lift a lot in my late teens but stopped. Then about 2 1/2 years ago I got back into it. I jog sometimes too, but never just for fun. Jogging for me is always to lose weight when I go off my weightlifting diet for too long.

I stick to the major compound lifts. I only use machines for a few things. I like to go heavy with free weights. Right now I only go to the gym three times a week (although I admit I only went twice last week :o) But I want to soon start getting up earlier before work so I can go to the gym before work. I despise going to the gym after work. Not because I am too tired. Because my gym is way too crowded at this time. If you have to wait 5-10 minuets between movements, what is the point? 🤷

I used to lift hardcore…my basic daily routine used to be an hour of running and an hour and a half of lifting.

I’ve given up the hardcore lifting and now do martial arts. I include some basic lifting, but it’s geared toward endurance and strengthening particular muscle groups.

I try to spend time when I can in the gym. It definitely does help mentally too so for those who are stressed, down or just plain out of it- get some exercise, lift, do cardio, zumba, etc.

How many lbs do you guys lift? I do only 10 lbs for the obliques- that’s all hehe 😃 Oh and I include Jesus in my workout by saying a quick prayer and sign of the cross before a workout. 👍
