Do you ever cry during Mass?

Sometimes I’ll be moved to tears during Mass. I find it very embarrassing! :o I don’t like to let others see me cry and it ends up being distracting because once the tears start rolling I put all my effort into hiding them.

Anybody else have this happen?

Don’t be embarrassed. Just wipe your eyes and let it be. It’s a blessing to be moved to tears. I wish I were more often!

I have, during many songs.
I feel embarrassed too, and now you’ve got me thinking:
what if we were all meant to cry?

Only once. I think it was right after I went to Confession for the first time in 10+ years. What kind pushed me over was when they played a song (Gift of Finest Wheat) that always reminds me of our former pastor. Other than funerals though, that’s the only time.

Occasionally I weep during Mass, usually during the Consecration and Eucharistic Prayer. More often I weep after Confession.

I always find the tears to be very cleansing and comforting.

I say, let them flow! 🙂

I do, too. Just different times. Not so much when I pray, but at Mass, I have to work on not crying because I get embarrassed and my kids get upset when they see me crying.

When my life was more difficult, I used to just cry the whole time. People would stop and ask me if I was okay. I wasn’t, but you can’t explain your troubles to strangers. It is like throwing your arms around your loving parent, sometimes it is hard not to let go.

My cryiing isn’t just about troubles, but sometimes also just from love and strong emotion.

I cry many times and like our first writer, I too feel like it takes away from the mass and do what I can to hide my tears so others can enjoy the wonderful words and music. There is no greater place to share time though so I a hope that no one is judging. :o

I broke down in tears the first time I received Christ in the Eucharist at the Easter Vigil Mass I entered the Church --I had been through so much to get to that point, and I was overwhelmed with emotion at that point. I was the only person who cried. Since then I have cried (not weeping, but teary-eyed) at the Agnus Dei, marveling at Christ’s mercy, and after receiving Holy Eucharist. Don’t be embarrassed!!

St Ignatius of Loyola often experienced what he called tears of consolation. they were tears of joy, of peace, of deep love for the Lord. He welcomed them as expressions of the Lord’s love for him. If you read the Spiritual Diaries of Ignatius, he speaks often of crying while saying Mass. In fact he says that sometimes he was crying so much that he could hardly say mass.

So, my sense of the stories told in these posts is that the writers are experiencing tears of consolation. What a wonderful gift of the Lord to you!

I almost cried during Mass. I forgot what about. Something beautiful of course! gee I wish I could remember what it was about. I’m only 17, there were people around my age and some that go to my school was there. I tried my best holding it in. I think I only shed a tear. 🙂

On manyoccasions in mass I have broken down and cried especially when Father lifts the Host and says “THIS IS THE BODY OF CHRISTWHO’S BODY WAS BROKEN FOR OUR SINS” and then the priest breaks the Host.

You know one day I was soooo very sick but I just went to mass. I was folded up and hanging my head I was so ill. When it came to communion I went out to the isle and as I walked up head down, these words came from in my mind, heart, spirit “this is the reason why I came”. I wasn’t made well, but I was ataken back by the words. I knew it was the spirit of God in me that was speaking and was the driving force to get me to mass.

Another time I fall into tears is when I am working out in the moon and starlight at night, and the love of Jesus comes down on me and I break into tears I cry out loud God I love You so much, and you know we believe that GOD MADE US TO HIS LIKENESS ok? right, then if God does not need sexual intercourse to bring about children think of this.
Without the sexual part of intercourse think of how this would be with God loving us with the love we feel in intercourse but not in a sexual form. Think about it, it happens.
On many occasions I feel my love just reaching out and God responding the same way, I start crying out loud and start reaching out for Jesus and I feel this love that is so…soo much deeper than any sexual love I have ever had from my wife. It lasts for sometimes about an hour, sometimes 3/4 of an hour. When I think of going into one of the doors to a corrodoor, Jesus tells me to carry on out side He just wishes to give His love to me. This is when tears come the most and I almost fall to the ground for the love of Jesus comming through me.
It does happen

God bless

Well, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one. 🙂

What’s really strange about it is that I’m generally NOT an emotional person. It takes a lot to get me to cry. I tend to keep my emotions to myself, just like my Dad. The only time in my life I saw him cry was when my grandma died. But I’m always getting choked up during Mass, usually when I least expect it.

This past Sunday, I was really dealing with a nasty bout of depression and I was really having a hard time “connecting” during Mass. It really was all I could do to just pay attention. But then they started singing the Beatitudes song (can’t think of the title) and the tears started flowing…:o :o and then when I went up to Communion, just as I put the host in my mouth, my eyes fixated on the crucifix and I felt God’s love embrace me. :crying: :crying: That was me the rest of Mass, lol!

It’s so beautiful man. I’m a very emotional guy. It’s hard to hold things in. You don’t usually see this big football player guy (hs football) crying. I’m actually soft. I’m only hard on the football field. Most of the time it’s happy tears. Happy because God is so beautiful and a-m-a-z-i-n-g! 🙂 🙂 x100

me too, sometimes because of the song, but really it’s amazing; it’s really God there.

I tear up during the Creed when we say, “His kingdom will have no end.”

I did full-blown one time–and I’m a big tough guy. 😃

I’ve also gotten watery eyed other times too 🙂

When I was still learning about the Catholic Church I read The Lamb’s Supper by Scott Hahn and was completely blown away. I’d never understood the sacrificial nature of the Mass before. The next time I went to Mass with my husband, this new understanding overwhelmed me and I couldn’t help crying my eyes out. I was just so grateful. I worried my husband, but it was an amazing experience. Afterward I ran home and watched the Passion of the Christ and was moved like never before. At that point there was no way I could ever go back to the protestant church I grew up in. 🙂

I’m still moved to tears nearly everytime we go.
