Dobson has different viewpoints on masturbation and ABC.
But he is a champion for pro-life causes. I honestly think that if it wasn’t for him, most Protestants, even the evangelicals, would NOT be pro-life at all. He leads the way for Protestants! Remember, Protestants don’t have a Pope. They are all alone with their Bibles. So it’s really wonderful that God has sent a faux-Pope to them in the form of Dr. James Dobson.
And he is a champion for pro-family causes, too.
Above all else, he is a champion for CHILDREN and TEENAGERS, and his advice on raising them is awesome. We raised our daughters entirely “Dobson,” and we are totally pleased with the results. (One is 24, one is 21.)
His teachings about “willful defiance” and “childish irresponsibility” are fantastic guidelines for parents. I see so many parents who get mad at their children and punish them for acts of “childish irresponsibility,” and ignore them or even reward them (by cuddling, etc.) for acts of “willful defiance.” AAAAAGH! I just want to scream at them to read Dobson and learn that they are creating a monster!
I also love his teachings about “strong-willed children”–perfect.
And his advice about “rewarding the good behavior” is wonderful. Again, I see so many parents who utterly ignore their child when he does something right, but when he does something “wrong,” they scoop him up and cuddle and kiss him and tell him that they’re so sorry he’s having such a bad day and soon we’ll be home and then he can have some candy…AAAAAAGHHH!!!
I think most Catholics are smart enough to ignore his “incorrect” teachings and glean the good stuff.
I just want to remind everyone that Dr. Dobson is not nor never has been a pastor. He is a clinical psychologist. His “Dr.” refers to his Ph.D. A lot of times, the secular media will refer to him as a fundamentalist pastor. Both labels are totally incorrect.
