Do you ever listen to Protestant talk radio?

I very rarely listen to talk radio at all. We have at least 2 Christian stations and no Catholic stations on regular radio around here. I used to listen to the Christian stations but one we started calling the “fat Christians station” because they were constantly selling dieat aids and bell pollen and other “health” junk. The other is mostly music and I’ll listen occasionally, but I much prefer my classical station. Since I’m not in the car much at all (Praise be to God!), I mostly listen to my CDs.

I have listened to it on occasion but I don’t normally. I used to listen to secular political talk radio (Sean Hannity etc.) but don’t listen to that hardly at all anymore. Actually, I can hardly stand it anymore. I find it devisive and I find many of those conservative talk-show hosts are fiscally conservative but not morally conservative. As far as Protestant radio, I have listened to Doctor James Dobson on occcasion becuase he talks about practical stuff (family issues etc.) but I am not likely to listen to a Protestant program on theology or the Bible. They interpret things differently.
Nowdays, I mostly listen to music. The only talk radio for me is Father John Corapi, Catholic Answers, and a few others on Catholic radio. It’s where the truths at.
James Dobson has a very different moral sense than what we teach in the Church, regarding sexuality, in that he recommends masturbation for single people, and he does not forbid artificial contraception. (Or at least he did the last time I listened to him more than six years ago - perhaps he has had a conversion experience in the mean time.) These are things that could be confusing to Catholic listeners.

I couldn’t vote because none of the choices apply. I sometimes listen to Protestant radio; primarily because I like the Southern Gospel music they sometimes play. But there is no Catholic radio around here at all.

it’s too late for me to add that to the poll…:doh2:

I like some of that music too…it’s very uplifting.

Prominent Protestants on talk radio include Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter.

[they are so pro-life, I don’t understand why they aren’t Catholic.]

I used to like **** Staub’s show:

WYLL has some decent programming, including a long running afternoon show which is worthy:

WMBI is interesting, has a good morning show, and their news department covers stories which won’t be heard elsewhere on the dial.

I’m not wild about Salem’s syndicated hosts as their perspectives, though discussing secular issues primarily, are decidedly not Catholic and often determindedly so, IMO. I just don’t see that they have much to offer than what if often a fundamentalist to hardline neo-conservative take on societal issues. So I no longer listen to their programs.

Dobson has different viewpoints on masturbation and ABC.

But he is a champion for pro-life causes. I honestly think that if it wasn’t for him, most Protestants, even the evangelicals, would NOT be pro-life at all. He leads the way for Protestants! Remember, Protestants don’t have a Pope. They are all alone with their Bibles. So it’s really wonderful that God has sent a faux-Pope to them in the form of Dr. James Dobson.

And he is a champion for pro-family causes, too.

Above all else, he is a champion for CHILDREN and TEENAGERS, and his advice on raising them is awesome. We raised our daughters entirely “Dobson,” and we are totally pleased with the results. (One is 24, one is 21.)

His teachings about “willful defiance” and “childish irresponsibility” are fantastic guidelines for parents. I see so many parents who get mad at their children and punish them for acts of “childish irresponsibility,” and ignore them or even reward them (by cuddling, etc.) for acts of “willful defiance.” AAAAAGH! I just want to scream at them to read Dobson and learn that they are creating a monster!

I also love his teachings about “strong-willed children”–perfect.

And his advice about “rewarding the good behavior” is wonderful. Again, I see so many parents who utterly ignore their child when he does something right, but when he does something “wrong,” they scoop him up and cuddle and kiss him and tell him that they’re so sorry he’s having such a bad day and soon we’ll be home and then he can have some candy…AAAAAAGHHH!!!

I think most Catholics are smart enough to ignore his “incorrect” teachings and glean the good stuff.

I just want to remind everyone that Dr. Dobson is not nor never has been a pastor. He is a clinical psychologist. His “Dr.” refers to his Ph.D. A lot of times, the secular media will refer to him as a fundamentalist pastor. Both labels are totally incorrect.
