Do you ever wear blue jeans to Sunday Mass?

I’ve worn jeans to a wedding too, but only because I didn’t realize it was a wedding. My husband’s friend got married in the military, and we thought they were just having an informal get-together at home for family and friends. We showed up and it was a full wedding ceremony and reception. I was quite embarrassed that we were the only ones there in jeans and t-shirts. What do you wear to non-biker weddings?

I guess so…considering that the cermoney was not in a church it was outdoors and they (the couple) rode up to the priest on motorcycles 🙂 and the bride wore white jeans & t-shirt and the groom was in black jeans and t-shirt
Not every wedding is religious ceremony like a Catholic wedding…so not all of them require “fancy dress”

Depends…several I have worn jeans too…(non biker weddings but held in the country) and several I have worn pant suits too 🙂 I do not do dresses or skirts
 
The clothes do not make the man/woman.🙂

You can dress like a derelict and be the most devout person while a person that dresses to the nines can be a so-so in their faith.

I have seen instances of both of these…

Their is nothing saying that a person dressed to the nines is not as devout or vice versa your clothes are not a reflection on how devout a person is, IMHO

This can be true but jeans need not be a poor expression of the interior. I often wear nice jeans with dress shoes and a dress shirt and belt to mass. for my age group, this is considered very stylish and very dressy. I don’t know why but I have always thought that dress pants and ties look silly on people. In fact I think that they look so silly that they appear to be less dressy in my eyes than jeans do. I am not gonna go to Church wearing what I think looks absolutely absurd! I too much respect for Christ to do that. Rather, I will continue to wear jeans, a dress shirt, and dress shoes to Church.

I would agree clothing is not an absolute indicator of the interior.

In todays society jeans are not considered dress wear by anybody. They are casual dress and typically work clothes.

Everyone knows what dress pants are. I would again submit wearing jeans is minimalist, rather indicative of an interior disposition. We should strive to be maximalists in our Mass worship.

Let’s try and return Sunday to God in our actions and dress.

I absolutely agree with you, MaryAgnes, thanks for bringing up that point!

Our minds should be totally focused on Christ not someone’s apparel.

That is why I say whatever people wear, it should be modest and chaste. When you ‘distract’ people by immodest dress, I believe, you are not only tempting someone to sin with immoral thoughts but you are also *robbing our Lord * of His time with those who came to Worship.

And, people who are so distracted by what everyone is wearing or *not wearing * stylewise, are robbing the Lord of His time and those who came to worship Him. Did you ever consider that? ye who judge the apparel and heart intent of others??? :ehh:

Wow! A biker wedding in a Catholic church?! That would be unusual but I did have a priest friend who was invited to a biker fest every year to bless their bikes so maybe not.

I don’t think it was a priest, or rather, it shouldn’t have been. This would be against Church teachings in soooooooooooo many ways. Weddings in a Catholic church are always a religious ceremony and Masses are too.

So, once again, it seems that most are missing the point that denim isn’t the problem, it’s about people not dressing their best for Our Lord.

I see that people keep asking if people wear dressier than jeans for other occaisions and I’m not really seeing too many yes or nos on this (yes there were about 2 of you that did so thank you). Most people have just said that they have worn jeans to some events. So, let me repeat others questions. Have you dressed up in fancier than jeans for other events? Work? Weddings? Dates? etc., etc., etc. If you have dressed up for them, don’t you think Our Lord deserves this effort too? And let me qualify this AGAIN. Of course there are times that we have reasons we can’t dress up for Mass and no, we don’t judge people for dressing down. It’s society as a whole that we are judging, not the individual. We cannot know the individuals circumstance but we can say, on a whole, society seems to care more about dressing up for work, weddings, etc. than they do for Our Lord in His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. The “God loves us just the way we are” attitude is a dangerous one. God loves us despite who we are.

Not on Sunday but I wear jeans on Saturday night Mass and weekly Mass (especially weekly Mass because I go to college right after that!)
