**THE CATHOLIC CHURC UNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE by Fr. John Harden SJ.

Quote: “The Scriptures are holy because their main author is the all-holy God. But they

are also holy because they are able to sanctify those who READ the Bible as NO OTHER

LITERATURE in the world is capable of doing.

St. Thomas does not hesitate to speak of the Scriptures as a KIND OF SACRAMENT.

SIMULAR to what happens when we receive BAPTISM or the EUCHARIST.

The same Holy Spirit who first inspired the Bible CONTINUES TO ENLIGHTEN those who

now READ the Bible.”

When in faith, READING or HEARING the Word of God we are consuming the BREAD

OF LIFE, in which He (Jesus), Himself is consumed and we unite ourselves to Christ.

[CCC 108]; Still, the Christian faith is not a “religion of the book.”

Christianity is a religion of the “Word” of God, “not a written and mute word, but incarnate and living.”

If the Scriptures are not remain a dead letter, Christ, the eternal Word of the living God,

must, through the Holy Spirit, “open [our] minds to understand the Scriptures.”

If we want to be a good disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ we must have a MEGA faith in

God and in His Word, and we must study it and we must know it and love it!

When we are reading the Bible, The Holy Spirit, “open [our] minds to understand the Scriptures.

We shouldn’t relay on our interpretation of the Scripture, as we see the above teaching of

the RCC and John 14:17, 26; John 16:13-15. – The Holy Spirit open our minds to

understand the Scriptures and will teach us all things, guides us into all truth and gives us

understanding and builds us up.

THE LAMB’S SUPPER by Scott Hahn Page 48

Quote: One of the great Scripture scholars of the early church, Origen (third century), urged

Christians TO RESPECT CHRIST’S PRESENTS IN THE GOSPEL as they RESPECT

HIS PRESENCE IN THE HOST.

“You who are accustomed to take part in the divine mysteries know, when you receive the

body of the Lord, how you protect it with all caution and veneration lest any small part fall

from it, lest anything of the consecrated gift be lost.

For you believe, and correctly, that you are answerable if anything falls from there by neglect.

But if you are so careful to preserve His body, and rightly so, HOW DO YOU THINK THAT

THERE IS LESS GUILT TO HAVE NEGLECTED GOD’S WORD THAT TO HAVE

NEGLECTED HIS BODY?” End quote.

It is common knowledge among Christians that we are Catholics far the most Bible

illiterates among all Christian groups.

I believe WE ARE GUILTY OF NEGLECTING THE WORD OF GOD.

Purgatory is no amusement park either. It is just like Hell, except some day one will get out. With Hell, one never gets out. If one were to be in Purgatory until the end of the world, imagine how long that would be.

It’s still infinitely better than Hell, because you know you’ll eventually get out and achieve union with God.

I don’t understand. How can anyone try to say that God is merciful if he damns us on his own accord. That is evil.

Do you ever think that you may not make it to Heaven based on the tenants of your Religion, or are you sure that you will go to Heaven?
I thought our final hope was to be on the new earth with our new bodies.

If we just think about heaven and hell we are missing the New Covenant message.

Sure I think about one or the other. Yet God doesn’t make mistakes so I try not to worry.

Is this your view?

“I can’t belive in a God who would…”
" if I were God I would do it this way…"

what do the writings breathed out by God say?

“I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion”. Exodus 33:19

consider this:
note: “Woe” is a pronouncement of judgement

Isaiah 45

"10 Woe to the one who says to a father,
‘What have you begotten?’
or to a mother,
‘What have you brought to birth?’

11 “This is what the Lord says—
the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker:
Concerning things to come,
** do you question me about my children,
or give me orders about the work of my hands?**

Here is the question
What would you do if you found out or realized something about God you don’t agree with or don’t approve of?
Would you create your own God in your own mind that you deem worthy of worship?
Or would you submit to the God revealed in His Scriptures?

Isaiah 45:19: “I, the Lord, speak the truth;
** I declare what is right.**”

not me: not you

Oh how I wish God didn’t sent anyone to Hell .That includes my God denying family members.

It is such a heavy weight on my heart and the main subject of my daily prayers.
My soul weeps

but that is not the God of the Bible
and I submit to who He is

Blessings Rcwitness,

Well if God would judge us according to what we do, not according to what Christ did on

the cross for us, then we all would be the residence of hell.

Christ on the cross paid the price in full for the sins of the whole world.

God wants to save everyone.

Only the reprobates will be the residence of hell because of their vehement rejection of

Christ, His merit on the cross, God and his grace.

The judgment our works (as God’s children) described in 1 Cor.3:11-15.

Our salvation is not at stake but our reward in heaven is at stake.

**Our works will be judged according to as follows:

CONDITIONS THAT OUR WORKS (OUR DEEDS) COUNT FOR ANYTHING

Conditions MUST BE PRESENT to make SUPERNATURAL MERIT possible.**

The meritorious work must be morally good, that is, in accordance with the moral law in its

object, intent, and circumstances.

It MUST be done FREELY, WITHOUT any EXTERNAL
COERCION or INTERNAL NECESSITY.

It MUST be SUPERNATURAL, that is, AROUSED and
ACCOMPANIED by ACTUAL

GRACE, and proceeding from a SUPERNATURAL motive.

Strictly speaking only a person in the STATE OF GRACE can merit, as defined by the

Church (Denzinger 1576, 1582).

JUSTIFICATION IN CATHOLIC TEACHING by Jimmy Akin

Quote: “The essence of supernatural love is unselfishness—doing something NOT

BECAUSE IT WILL HELP US SOMEHOW, but because we want to do it out of SHEER

LOVE for the other person, whether that person is God or one of our fellow human beings

out of the love of God.

This is THE ONLY KIND of love that ultimately pleases God and therefore the ONLY

KIND that ultimately gets us a reward IN heaven.” End quote. Emphasize mine.

Repentance means turning from sin. If we continue in sin, we are not repenting.

There is a line, my friend.

Yep. The important thing to remember, is that repentance means “turning from sin” to God’s forgivness.

You are right and one day when I was struggling with a temptation to go back and roll in the mud for awhile a thought came to me that has been helpful. I realized that repentance is actually a four letter word…QUIT!

Do you fear that you may go to Hell?

I believe that if I did not think that a possibility, then I would be a fool.
Psalm 79
Bring us back, O God of hosts: let your face shine on us and we shall be saved.

Through the lessons of folks who have been slaughtered because of their role to teach Sin’s severe consequences, I have no reason to believe I will go to Heaven based on my life.

I have HOPE due to the promises of Jesus Christ taught through those same people, who stared down gruesome torture and death and did not flinch in message.

In that message are these words repeated often - Be Not Afraid.

I know what I deserve considering my sinfulness, but I also know I will try and practice what I trust - Be Not Afraid.

St. Michael Help us in this day of battle!

I’ve long braced myself up for Hell. Never felt the other way around. Very jealous of those who hope, let alone are certain to make it to Heaven.

I’ve reflected very often on the title of “Father” that God has asked us to address him as, and being our Father, he is no more excited about casting off his children into hellish darkness and despair than any earthly father would be. I’m in no way denying that hell exists, because it’s very explicit in Scripture that it is real and plenty of people will end up there. However, I do feel like God, being perfect in all his attributes, is going to be much more merciful than many of us think. I don’t worry so much about going to hell, I try to trust that God knows me perfectly and understands the reasons for my faults and shortcomings in a way that will allow for a perfectly just and merciful judgement.

I fear we may be living in a living Hell if Clinton or Trump take office.

There is nothing you can do to save yourself … True

What does it mean to believe? Steve Ray (catholic apologist) gave the best example I can think of. I’m paraphrasing for brevity, I may believe the tightrope walker can cross the canyon with a person across his back but if he asks for a volunteer…

Some other things to consider:

James says the demons also believe, but they are not saved.

Paul says the greatest between Faith, Hope and Love is Love.

Paul also says we are saved BY Grace THROUGH Faith FOR Good Works that we should walk in them.

When Jesus is asked directly “What must I do to be saved?” his response is “Sell all you have, give it to the poor and follow me”

So there are obviously components of Love, Charity, and Obedience that are also components of salvation.
Just a couple points. Believing in what man can do, like in the example you first stated, and believing in what Jesus can do don’t even compare. That example is actually an example of doubt, not belief. If Jesus was walking the tight rope and asked for a volunteer, would you not trust Him? Really?

Lets get the quote from the book of James correct. It’s not referencing believing in Jesus, but that the demons believe there is one God. Big difference.

James 2:19

You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble.

Faith, hope and love are fruits of the spirit. These are obtained through the holy spirit which is in those that are saved. They don’t lead to salvation but are rather a result of someone that has the spirit of God in them.

When Jesus told the rich man to sell all he has and follow Him, He knew that the man depended on his riches rather than on Jesus. This line in no way is to say we all must sell everything we have. Jesus was making a specific point. Here’s another example:

Acts 16:29-31

*The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” *

Yes, Love, Charity, and Obedience are a part of a Christians life. But even atheists have these qualities. Believing in Jesus is what makes the difference.
