Hi Jeanne…
Yes fearing hell and just responding to ‘being and doing Christian’ won’t cut it.
I also place on myself all Our Lord’s merits to overplace my deficiencies…and unite myself and my family to the redemptive and saving power of the Mass said 24 hours a day throughout the world.
As Catholics…we cannot just look at one phrase or two…we have to look at the whole of Scripture to truly hear what God is saying to us…and there is alot of emphasis on perseverance and also our own spiritual blindness that needs to be healed before we can see who we are not…and Who Christ is.
So I cannot presume I am going to heaven…and there is a line in a psalm…66?..God likes it when we are on trembling knees…that reflects the idea that it is better we not presume our salvation but approach Him as truly the Author of Life and that we depend totally on Him for our salvation.
