Do you feel offended by people who come to the CC dressed as if they were at a barbeque in their backyard?

I think that many dont realize how priests are offended by the way people are dressing for the Church. the priest doesnt have to tell anyone how to dress. like the other poster said this is more a matter of spirituality and how one sees who God is.

it is all about zeal for the House of God. zeal? what is that? does anybody knows anything about zeal now and days?
Are you suggesting that woman who wear skirts to mass have more zeal than those who choose to wear pants?

I am sure you are familiar with the idea of begging the question by now. You are calling in God as your authority with no justification, unless he has whispered it in your ear and you are delivering to us the first new divine public revelation in 2000 years.

In other words, WWJD is poor reasoning if you can not provide evidence from the words of Jesus.
Exodus chapter 20: verse 14 and 17:
“You shall not commit adultery.”
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife”

Gospel according to Matthew chapter 5 27-29:
“You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.'But I say to you, everyone who looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into Gehenna.”

1 Peter 1:14-16
"Like obedient children, do not act in compliance with the desires of your former ignorance but, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct, for it is written, “Be holy because I (am) holy.”

1 John 2:15-17
“Do not love the world or the things of the world. 7 If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life, is not from the Father but is from the world. Yet the world and its enticement are passing away. But whoever does the will of God remains forever.”

My reason is very simple. wear what is appropriate in the eyes of God. man wear pants and women wear a dress or skirt. very simple.
You are obviously corrupted by our scandalous modern culture. Skirts should only be worn by men as was their established place in the time of our Lords ministry. Your very simple reason is simply a lack of understanding of what is appropriate for men and women.

The vendors were cheating the people (out of their money) that had come to offer sacrifices. They weren’t woman wearing pants.
Specifically, what was said, " My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves." Jesus did not address the clothing of the people there at all.

Exodus chapter 20: verse 14 and 17:…"
Are you familiar with a strawman?

In this case, the topic is not adultery, covetousness or holiness. No one here has even suggested we give way to any sin mentioned in these scriptures or that we not strive for holiness. The topic is casual dress.

I could quote the geneology of Matthew and it would have as much bearing on the topic.

I’d say it depends on the situation and what the dress is. If they are a newcomer searching for answers, we ought all respond to them as if they were the town mayor come to join us, regardless of dress. If it is someone who knows better, I would take some offense as it shows that individual’s attitude towards God.

Could you PLEASE enlighten the rest of us as to how God told you that men wearing pants is appropriate in His eyes, while it’s not for women?? As I have said before on this very thread, MEN didn’t wear pants in biblical times in the land of the Bible, so don’t bother posting OT quotes…they wore tunics and robes.

Men AND women, did however, wear pants in other cultures during that time (Asian and Indian come to mind). Are you saying that anyone of that heritage is not appropriate in God’s eyes? If that’s the case, would you kindly remove that log out of your own eyes before you suggest what is right in God’s eyes!!

I would venture to say if you were to meet the President or the Queen or attend the funeral of a loved one you would not wear flip flops, team jerseys, shorts, sweat pants, short skirts, tight blue jeans ect…but when you go to Holy Mass and are in front of your Creator its ok. Remember the Blessed Mother predicted at Fatima that Jesus would be extremely offended at the fashions coming out and inappropriate dress of people. Judging by the way things are these days He will have to tell them Himself for them to get it.

Well, the Church could speak on the issue. I have now asked twice, but will ask a third time, where has the Catholic Church condemned casual clothing, pants and such? But, no, I do not get judgmentalism. I would like to point out that the title of this thread is not about how we dress, but whether we are offended by the casual dress of* others*.

So yes, Jesus would have to tell me, through the Scripture or through the Church, that He was going to king’s-x what the parable of the beam and the mote and that I was to start being offended by others in Mass over something as trivial as a polo shirt or women’s slacks.

interesting how you cited the pagans as an example how people are dressing today.

For Mass, I wear dress slacks, a skirt, or a dress. I would not meet the Queen or the President dressed in jeans or flip-flops. I would likely wear a pants suit that is more modest and certainly more appropriate to my size than any dress I own. My issue is with people stating that women shouldn’t wear pants (of any kind) because they are for men. Men didn’t start wearing what we know as trousers until the middle ages. It wasn’t in biblical times…at least in Biblical lands.

I don’t care to see females wearing shirts that show their cleavage, their belly, or their backside when they bend over. I don’t care to see their kneecaps. In fact, I don’t want to see those things on males, either. That’s what being modest is. Stating that women shouldn’t wear pants of any kind isn’t being modest, it’s being judgmental and downright presumptuous in assuming one knows exactly what God thinks simply because it’s what “they” think!

Yes, I agree with what was said at Fatima…but I don’t think it was women in trousers…I’m thinking it’s more like 10 year-olds in belly shirts and people dressing like what you see when you flip on the latest reality drama on TV. But, I am humble enough to say that’s what “I” think…not what “God” thinks!

I would venture to say if you were to meet the President or the Queen …
You know, I’ve heard this same statement so many time around here, but I don’t think it is particularly accurate. Unless it was a majorly formal occasion (and those I would try to get out of!) I would quite likely wear a nice pair of jeans and a nice shirt or a casual skirt with flip flops. That is me, and 99.9% of what I own. And this is the same kind of clothes I generally wear to Mass. 🤷

Nothing “interesting” about it. Perhaps that is my own ethnicity…not every practicing and faithful Catholic is of European or Middle Eastern descent. People of these cultures wore those clothes before the Jesuits arrived and they wore them after they had converted to Christianity.
If you are going to be so legalistic as to go with exactly what was worn in biblical times by the Hebrews and newly baptized Christians of the first century, then you had better break out that tunic and that robe if you are male.

“And if a woman chooses to wear pants, at least wear a shirt that doesn’t rise up when you bend over or pants that don’t expose yourself when you bend over.”

How far over are you bending at Mass? Where are you bending?

What’s being exposed when women bend?

All this exposed bending.

They have pants on. Are you talking “plumbers’ crack”?

Women have plumbers’ crack?

Speaking of the Queen …

If it offends you to see someone wearing pants at mass, then it would probably offend you to see what people actually did wear when the Queen (Elizabeth II) visited Toronto Canada recently. I’m talking about the women who were wearing strapless dinner gowns and were sitting in the front during the dinner. At times it looked like they were naked!

Just look how the jews dressed. i dont think had to say anything about that. but i am pretty He says something to say about arrogant people who thinks they can do anything they want in His House. oh, just know what Jesus did when He found vendors outside God’s House.
That would mean we’d all be wearing tunics or alb-like attire, men included. I don’t buy it and it isn’t Catholic thought, because Catholic thought is in perfect accord with reason and this doesn’t remotely approach logic.

Exactly. Why are you advocating that men wear pants, otherwise known as the clothes of pagans? Do you have so little concern for the Lords house that you would dishonor him by wearing secular pagan garments just because the secular 1950’s society told you they were proper? Where is your passion really located when you put these pants on? It seems like you are simply trying to hold up an image of your time and not the Lords time and are asking others to join you in your disrespect. The Pope certainly doesn’t wear pants to Mass yet you insist on trying to transform the consecration of the most blessed sacrament into a festival of pants wearing pagans.

None of which has anything to do with women wearing or not wearing pants. This is essentially how Protestants interpret the Bible. It isn’t how the Church does it. It’s called “proof-texting.”

I have quoted these passages because people who wear “casual clothing” are wearing tight jeans, short shorts, shorts skirts, straps or strapless shirts/dresses, skin tight shirts… that always reveal too much cause others to sin. If dressing “casual” meant not showing certain body parts, people wouldn’t find if offensive and irreverent to go to Church.
