This fact of what the matter of worship is which is found in the celebration of the Eucharist is true whether we understand this much about it or not. Still how much of The Lamb’s Supper can we ever truly understand? Let God be God and let’s not tell Him what He can do.
I have found mass to be fun, and to be joyful and to be sorrowful as well as to be dry and strangely ordinary. Perhaps some of this is my emotions or mood but when these are dominant then I am not worshipping well. God has led me to a happiness that has a zeal which is fun. He has led me to a joy of spirit that gives immense comfort and joy. The intensity of the spiritual affect of mass is far greater than moods or emotions.
God truly stirs our souls as He moves us to receive Him. Or, as the occasion may arise when He finds it necessary to remind us of grave matter handled poorly, to not receive Him. Even when He nudges me to recall a matter of which I must reconcile myself with my brother who I have treated wrongly He can fill my spirit with intense joy. He may offer consolation while reminding me of right judgement. God is very good, praise be to Jesus!
Perhaps my foolish writings on CA Forums, as an example, have risen to scandal. Either in ignorance or in disobedience I lead another to anger or occassion of sin. By ignoring right counsel or with imprudent haste I post a response impinging on someone’s conscience and contrary to gradualism and the truth of church wisdom in ecumenism or other teachings. Yup, it could happen and not knowing the spiritual condition of the other a matter I see as simple or obvious can be a grave offense to the other. Even if, God can still make mass fun, or joyful, or sorrowful, or dry for me.
I try to conform my will to what He has for me in mass because it is both a matter of respecting His authority which takes special precedence before The Eucharist and also because Our Loving Father does what is best for each of us. Let go of the reigns at mass, especially, and let God. The celebration and the good of your soul will speak better for it. Loving God is letting God. Try discerning why He is not wanting us to look and feel as the “frozen chosen.” Let Him love you, especially before Him at mass.
