Do you go to your church on Christmas day?

My meeting had a “meeting for worship” and a sing along on Christmas Eve…but I didn’t attend…Traditionally Friends don’t hold Christmas day as anything “special”…Friend’s spirituality is to recongnize that “Christ is born each day in our hearts and lives.”

With a growing community of “convinced Friends”, some of them like to get together on Christmas Eve.

I have been living in the us for several years but I have not get used yet to Christmas traditions here. We have dinner on Christmas Eve at 6 pm when the church bells ring. Before dinner we pray and read from the gospel. After that we receive presents (from baby Jesus) and some people go to the midnight mass. I love going to mass on Christmas day since we are done with dinner and gifts and direct our focus on Jesus. I was quite disappointed yesterday at the mass. It felt like everyone wanted to be done with that and head home for Christmas dinner. 😦 I guess, being away from my family brings me little bit down.

I wish all of you a very merry Christmas.

We had 6 Masses between Christmas Eve and today, and I went to Midnight Mass, as I almost always do. On the way home from my family Christmas celebration, I stopped by the Adoration chapel for some quiet time before the Blessed Sacrament. The chapel is open 24/7, although you have to have the combination to get in if it’s locked.
Except when I was living at home with my parents, I have never gone to my own parish for Christmas. I always have gone with my parents to their church (now just with my mother to her church, since my father died). My parents’ church, my church, and my mother’s church always have Masses on Christmas day; but even as a child, I never went to church on Christmas day. I have always gone to either a Vigil Mass or Midnight Mass.

My mother’s church has an adoration chapel, but the pastor announced at the Christmas Vigil Mass that it would be closed until Thursday. It is not open from Christmas eve until tomorrow (probably due to regularly scheduled people being out of town and nobody available to be present 24 hrs.).
