Do you have a home shrine/prayer corner? Pictures?

Well, I’m still gathering a few things for my prayer corner (I have to purchase the mahagony crucifix and St. Jude statue still), but in the meantime I’ve spruced up my desk area just a bit. Still very much a work in progress.

Also there’s a statute of St. Joseph in the laundry room where I do a lot of work.
Oh my, my one neglected space! I also spend a lot of time there. I need to do something about that, thanks.

I only have that picture of Saint Augustine and a small crucifix, but I’m planning to buy more images of Christ, the Theotokos and Saint Thomas Aquinas

I know this is a sin, but boy do I envy that icon corner.

Whoa! That’s a lotta Momma!

I especially love that miniature high altar in the last picture…

Max, that altar is very old. It belonged to my grandmother. My mother says it was in the house when she was a small child. The candles were missing, so I made them myself out of brass tubing and simple birthday candles. There is a light inside the altar which illuminates the Last Supper image on the front of the altar, and also the candles themselves. It’s really neat looking when lit up! You occasionally see one on eBay.

I had an internship in the fundraising department of my Diocese a few summers ago, and they had one on display from the Diocesan Museum.

Wow! You have a statuary in your house! Did you purchase all of those statues?

I love that portrait of St. Augustine!

Yeah, over the years. But some of them belonged to my mom. Most of them are well over twenty years old. I have some more that aren’t shown here.

How do you know that the pic is of St. Augustine (outside of the fact it is probably labeled that way)? What are Augustine’s distinguishing figures when depicted?

He’s usually portrayed dressed as a Bishop, holding a flaming heart and with a open book (usually the Scriptures or him writing the Confessions).
Fun fact: in that particular picture he’s stomping on a book with the name of the Heresiarch Pelagius, his “archenemy”

In that last picture. The Mary poster. Isn’t that Natalie Portman? When did she play The Virgin Mary?

No. That’s a gallery wrapped canvas print. This is an artist’s conception of the statue that has been made world famous by the alleged apparitions in Medjugorje, Bosnia Herzegovina. He painted her so as to make the image of the statue come alive and make her look lifelike. The original statue resides at Immaculate Conception Parish in the village of Tihaljina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, which is not far from Medjugorje. It’s often referred to as “Our Lady of Tihaljina.” This statue is also often mistaken for “Our Lady of Medjugorje.” In actuality, it’s nothing more than an Italian-made statue of Our Lady of Grace, whose beautiful face is attention grabbing. Millions of pilgrims flocking to the alleged apparition site made the side trip to see this statue. And it soon came to be identified with Medjugorje. The second picture in the first group of pictures that I posted, with the crown of flowers, is an Italian made copy of her.
