I know you have to pray every day but does god want me to spend a hour with him every day. Today I got a headache so would it be a sin not to spend time with him today?

What do you mean by spending time with him? Like, in a holy hour in an adoration chapel? He is present to us at all times, we just need to acknowledge that. In 1 Thess. 5:17 it says “Pray without ceasing.” He is always just a prayer away. :gopray:

When we have a headache and can’t pray, we can offer up the discomfort in union with the suffering of Jesus.

There are many ways to pray…during times of quiet recollection, before the Blessed Sacrament, offering up our work for His glory, etc.

No something like reading the bible, helping others, watching catholic programs, doing gods will etc like for a hour.

I spend time with God every day, throughout the day, but the length of time varies according to obligations I have (like work). Maybe you are doing too much. It’s supposed to be a relationship with God, not an obligation. If your headache is too bad to read, say a few short prayers.

Doing special “things” are optional and up to you. But there’s no way to NOT spend every moment with God - He made every cell in your body and everything you see, touch, hear is from Him.

If you don’t take a moment now and then to stop and let the awareness of Him in, that is your great loss. Some folks find it helpful to formalize that with a certain time to do a devotion, or adoration or prayer or daily Mass or the Office or whatever. Others find it just as easy to slide in and out of awareness and connection with God throughout the day, attempting to be forever in prayer. Others enjoy some combination.

With each year and each challenge of life, I find myself spending more time with Him throughout the day. But my attempts at scheduling strict devotions don’t work so well for me - they neither fit my temperament nor my current life. But every time I work with my disabled son or stroke his cheek or hair, I feel it as a prayer. Every time we make it through another day without losing our home or vehicle despite heavy money worries, a prayer of thanks follows. No meal without a prayer of thanks. Whenever the helicopter lifting seriously sick people from our rural setting goes over the house, I send up a prayer for them, and thanks for our good fortune of health this day. We pray God in and out like breath. And those breaths seem to come closer together as we get older. I can only hope that my last breath will be my final and complete prayer and acknowledgment that my God is EVERYTHING, everywhere and my all.

If you feel called to some sort of scheduled devotion, by all means try it! Run to it! Embrace it! But don’t beat yourself up if you are called to a different way to connect to our Good God.

When I have a headache or am dealing with severe back pain(fell down the basement stairs about a year ago and bruised my spine, will always have pain) I call out to God. We don’t just go to God when things are good or when things are bad. We go all the time. I wouldn’t put a time frame for spending time with God. He is with you every second of every day. He never leaves you. Remember we have His Spirit to always be with us. Some of my days just get wicked crazy with twin 5 year olds and I crawl into bed and feel horrible because I did not pray as much as I wanted to , read scripture and on and on. That is when I go to Him and ask for forgiveness. Remember, He is loving, kind, just. You are worried that because of your headache that you sinned. Tell God that is how you feel, ask for forgiveness. Everyone has what they see as sin. My rule thumb is that if I feel like I have sinned, then I have. If my heart is saying I have sinned, then I have. And I know with that feeling that I have to go to God because that is what He wants us to do. He loves us.

Does it matter what age you are im 13 years old
It is so good that you are a young person and want to spend time with the Lord every day. That is as it should be. Keep it up and you will be guided by the Lord. As others have pointed out, there are many ways to be with God, doing His will.

Of course, as you said you had a headache, you can just offer it up to the Lord and take a rest!

God bless you!

How about watching documentaries about jesus life and how was born ,were was he born, and discovering what type place earth was back then, is that that a good way to spend time with our lord?

Yes. God is with us at every moment of our lives, whether we know it or not. All you need to do is “realize” this by prayer formal or informal.

Even when I’ve been in the hospital in lots of pain I’ve found that saying the rosary relaxed me and made me feel better. If not than you can offer it up-just say a quick prayer and don’t worry. He loves you even with a headache!

God is in our hearts everyday but we need to acknowledge through kindness, prayer and respect for His children.

Sometimes I’ll just turn on an audio New Testament and let the computer do the work. I can leave it on for a few minutes or a few hours. At any given moment, I can pay attention to it or something else; the machine doesn’t care if I’m listening intently; and neither does the Holy Spirit because it still plants seeds in you.

Once during a very difficult time in my life I had an audio recording of the New Testament and just put it on repeat, for about two months. It was NIV because that’s all I could find back then, but no biggie because it was wonderful. Sometimes I sat and listened to it. I entertained with it on in the background, barely loud enough to hear a few select words from time to time. I worked on paperwork with it on. I slept with it on. It was like total immersion.

And the best part was, I didn’t have to make time for it. It was there all the time and I didn’t have to plan anything around it. It took 17 hours so it would repeat and each time give the same readings at different times of day.

Of course! God designed the family. It is specially helpful when families get into the habit of praying together.

If they don’t, then we should still pray for ourselves and for them, in order to stay close to the Lord.

You really should spend at least 10 minutes in mental prayer every day conversing with God and letting him speak to your heart. Don’t neglect to do so. Thirty minutes should be your goal, if not a full hour of mental prayer. And don’t forget to your morning and evening prayer. Vocal prayer at these times is beneficial. God bless you.

Very true Ready! I think God appreciates it either way you pray just as long as you acknowledge Him. Waking up in the morning saying a 5 or 10 min prayer and doing so again before bed is good.

Although, try to attend mass during the week, or adoration, praying the rosary or any novena and chaplet is good too. God appreciates all of this. When we talk to God throughout the day, we allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in us and then we can also be more clear in making the right choices.

God bless!

Yes, we should pray to God, Mary, the Saints and Angels as much as possible throughout the day while keeping busy and doing our daily duties as perfectly as possible Short aspirations to God and Mary are excellent. And we should never neglect to pray our daily Rosary. Yes, novenas and chaplets are good to pray too. Of course, Mass is a must. (I go to a traditional Chapel. I won’t go anywhere else.) God bless you.

Isnt like doing you job like school etc counts as gods will and counts as spending time with god. I pray every night, ill try to pray in the mornings.
