Do you like anti catholics. / protestants?

alot of people in this world are anti catholic and protestant, do you like them? just wondering
 
Yes many of them are good if not great people. They simply have a bias.

Really difficult to like those on YouTube. But, they are trolls more than Christians. Their hatred and calumny reveal that there is very little of Christ in them. Gives me a reason to pray for them.

Oddly enough, back when I worked, our chaplain was a Seventh-Day Adventist pastor. Both of us loving Christ, we got along famously, and he told me his favorite movie was The Scarlet And The Black. True story of Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty and debunks the myth that the Vatican was Hitler’s ally.

I wonder if his cause has been introduced?
 
I don’t like people who are viciously anti-catholic or (like some distant in-laws i have) take every second to question me about catholicism with the agenda of trying to make me look bad. (in other words, they’re grilling me about catholicism not for the sake of truth and understanding, but with ill intent and malice)

That being said, I love having those people talk to me. i take every opportunity I can to speak to people like that. I yearn for the chance to answer questions, especially those asked in ignorance with a seemingly ill-will. It’s great if you can view the encounter as an opportunity to inform.

I used to get angry and defensive and lash back at people who treated me this way (with this anti-catholic/protestant bias) and I wish I never would’ve interacted at that time, but lately it’s been nothing but calm responses followed up by questions of my own.

Unfortunately there have not been any follow ups. I’m still waiting for that one time someone confronts me for being Catholic and the discussion ends with the person being more concerned with truth and honestly seeking an understanding of the one true Christian Church.

I still really need to work on making my responses quite a bit more succinct, as you can tell from this post. lol
 
Depends on how vocal they are about it. If they’re constantly attacking religion, I wouldn’t want to be acquaintances with them all that much, but if there’s a respectful “agree to disagree” approach taken, I have no problem with that. Just as an example, my extended family has a few Bible-Christians who do not like the Church. (Did you know we’re told not to read the Bible?) That doesn’t mean I don’t like them because so long as the discussion stays away from religion/politics, we have pretty good times.
 
I would definitely say I love them I don’t have a choice that’s part of being a Christian. I would not necessarily, however say that I like them. I do find it more useful to point out positive traits in people than negative ones but sometimes people need to be told when they’re being negative.
 
Jesus was crucified, died and was risen for everyone, not just Catholics. There are, as Pope Francis said, caveats to this. And Jesus told us Love is everything. It was love for everyone that was His reason and motivation during his bitter Passion.

I am not really sure what a protestant is, but this people gets a lot of mention on this forum.

I do know all about anti catholic sentiment, being the only catholic, even christian of my old life, now running the gauntlet of ’ you have gone mad’ .
And being in a diocese, and parish with certain infamy to recent Royal Commissions into historic events, the anti catholic can be laid on pretty thickly and emotionally.

We Catholics who are practising , respond with Love, and Truth.

I don’t look for them on “You Tube”!

In person, I hope for them to slow down so they can listen to what I might feel like sharing with them (which won’t be something head-on). Sometimes, despite themselves, they manage to tell me something that’s good for me to hear, too!
 
It depends on the person, no?

A lot of folks consider Calvinist apologist James White to be an anti-Catholic, whatever that is.

I actually like him very much, and he was ironically an influence on me to become a Catholic in the first place.

Hey, thanks for the tip! 🙂 The title threw me at first, but that movie looks like something I would really enjoy. Now all I have to do is find it! 😛
 
Threads like this create the Us and Them mindset, which should be avoided.

Yes, there are anti-Catholics and anti-Protestants in the Catholic Church.

However, don’t feed the religious bigots with more hatred.

Turn the other cheek, pray for them and move on.

I do not regard people who disagree with Catholic doctrine as being hateful.

However it behooves those who disagree to make sure that they have a correct understanding of the doctrine in the first place. If they do and they still disagree, than I respect their choice.

However I see a lot of vitriol against the Church based on an incorrect understanding and view of the Church. Worst they propagate these falsehoods. It’s not like it’s hard to to learn about the Church for oneself. I have no patience with this type of folly. However I do not hate them.
 
There is a big difference between being Protestant and being anti-Catholic. Most Protestants today are not actively anti-Catholic so much as simply affiliated with those descended from separated groups. In the US/northern Europe, Protestantism is viewed as the norm for Christianity, not as schismatic.
 
I talk to some anti-Catholics who used
to be Catholic, but now are protestant
or “Christian”. They know about what
Catholics believe and say they no longer
agree w/ what the Church teaches, no
need to debate w/ them about Tradition!!
I just state that the Church of the Living
God is the pillar and support of the TRUTH
1 Tim. 3:15, and pray for them.

You would really have to unpack ‘anti-Catholic’ or for that matter ‘anti-Protestant.’ If the person can give informed, solid reasons for a certain position on a particular issue, I am open to listening, even finding common ground. It if it just hardcore polemics, no, I don’t have much use for it - from either direction. I have come to the conclusion that embracing this kind of polemics is incompatible with true Christianity. Still, hate the sin, love the sinner. I have been an atheist myself who was very hostile to Christianity and changed, so if I can do it, others can too. I don’t give up hope, but I do run for cover from these kinds of zealots, again, either side. :o And that has served me and my faith well.
 
I enjoy a good debate and in a free society people should always be able to discuss issues and take different positions on them. I have no problem with someone who asks questions or even explains why they disagree with what the church teaches on x. Jack Chick types on the other hand who just spread mistruths I have no time for.
 
People are people, you can’t generalise. Some anti-Catholic people are open to discussion and some aren’t.
