Do you like holding hands during the Our Father at Mass?

Windmill’s post in another thread got me thinking. Since I’m not a priest and have no congregation to poll, I thought I’d try the next best thing!
 
No - I hate it. It is not relevant, it is disruptive, and intrusive.

Yes, I like it and it makes me feel closer to my church family while praying to our Father.

I would personally prefer not to do it although the Church has not forbidden the practice and there is nothing irreverent about it. People used to sometimes tap or gently grab my hands and of course I would not pull my hands away – that would have been rude.

This was particularly true when attending Mass with our Latino community. It must be a cultural thing to some degree. Now I just keep my hands under my chin in a 5-on-5 position and no one has tried to hold hands with me during the Lord’s Prayer for ages.
 
At this point of the Mass, I am trying to focus on the Holy Eucharist which has just changed from bread and wine to the Body and Blood of Jesus. The touch of someone else’s cold/hot dry/sweaty healthy/coughed-on hand is distracting for me and causes me to lose focus.

The same is true for me with shaking hands during the Sign of Peace.

I agree it probably has been discussed far more than it warrants, but I hadn’t seen any polls about it, and curiosity got the better of me… 😃

So what do you do for the sign of peace which occurs immediately following this?

I dislike it and it isn’t mandated in the liturgy. I don’t even hold hands with close friends in my daily life. If someone wants to hold my hand I do it and offer it up. I willingly do the sign of peace when the priest or deacon asks us to.

Exactly. It is a personal choice, you are responsible to hold hands or not to hold hands.

Oh here we go again 😃 :whacky: How funny, reading this poll you sure get an idea of what Catholics hang out in here! :eek: 😛

I’ve decided whenever someone doesn’t want to hold my hand, I’ll just smile and say that’s ok and give them a hug :hug1: “yo dude, I respect your right and space” 😛

I actually picked, it doesn’t matter one way or other. I do like holding hands but only if the guy is really cute…:eek: jk. I can’t take the poll seriously. 😊
 
I’m a grown-up. I only hold hands with people whom I choose to hold hands. If I want to hold hands, I do. (Usually, I don’t.) I assume other grown-ups will do what is best for them as well. And I don’t care what they choose.
 
I liked it.
It was always just fine with me. Kind of a nice gesture of unity as we all prayer to God -our father. Then a priest told me that the Our Father is a vertical prayer not a horizontal one. That Jesus taught it and granted us the privilege of praying with and as He and the Holy Spirit do. The “Our” refers to Son, Holy Spirit and each of us singularly in unity with them.(not each other)
I had a hard time breaking the holding hands habit, but now just place my hands in the prayer position before it starts and look straight ahead.
