Oh here we go again :whacky: How funny, reading this poll you sure get an idea of what Catholics hang out in here!

I’ve decided whenever someone doesn’t want to hold my hand, I’ll just smile and say that’s ok and give them a hug :hug1: “yo dude, I respect your right and space”

I actually picked, it doesn’t matter one way or other. I do like holding hands but only if the guy is really cute… jk. I can’t take the poll seriously.

Just give him a :hug1: and get it over with. Best PDA you can give during mass to continue after mass.

No, I don’t like to hold hands and it isn’t because I am a touch me not. Our priest even says “and now let us hold hands”…so if you don’t hold hands the brother or sister next to you is hurt or offended and could take it personally and that is not worth it.

No it’s not highly discouraged by the Church. While I appreciate Mr. Donovan’s and Mr. Ryland’s reasoning, the Church has never said it was wrong, nor has the practice ever been highly discouraged.

Exactly. It is a personal choice, you are responsible to hold hands or not to hold hands.

At this point of the Mass, I am trying to focus on the Holy Eucharist which has just changed from bread and wine to the Body and Blood of Jesus. **The touch of someone else’s cold/hot dry/sweaty healthy/coughed-on hand **is distracting for me and causes me to lose focus.

The same is true for me with shaking hands during the Sign of Peace.

The one that always got me was the warm, silky-smooth, delicate hand of some gorgeous woman. Thankfully even then God gave me the gift to remain focused.

I usually hold hands with any women I am interested in at the time (e.g. dating). So, I would probably answer yes if we were in the same church building together.

The hug usually comes at the Sign of Peace. :hug1:

These threads make me - .

Having been all over the Protestant world and having seen this type of situation there over and over and over again, here’s what we would have done … we would just split the church over the issue and the hand holders would have their own church (Charismatic) and the uptight ones would have their own church (think Bob Jones ).

In the Catholic Church, we’re just all stuck with each other.

Christ hung naked on a cross for us and we are too uncharitable to hold someone’s hand, it makes me sick that this is beat to death like it is.

I’ll bet the persecuted Christians in the third world countries aren’t arguing over such silly things. We should be more thankful and much more charitable when we are blessed to be worshipping together with our only fear being a germ now and again.
