Do you like where you live?

Texas, hate it.

I have lived in several states: Michigan, Indiana, New Jersey, Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York, Arizona, Kansas, Virginia and visited many more. Texas is at the bottom of the list.

With that being said, I have visited parts of Texas that I like much better than the general Houston area where we live. But this is where the work is.
 
I absolutely LOVE living in Boise. I have traveled all over the country and I really enjoy visiting other places, but coming home is so great.

We have all four seasons in Idaho. With the exception of truly ocean sports, nearly every sport happens in Idaho. Boise is large enough to have a lot of cultural events, yet small enough to run into many friends wherever you go. We have most of the chain stores, yet “Mom and Pop” operations can still thrive.

One downside. Idaho roads are horrible!
 
I live in Upstate NY. Like anyplace else, there are pros & cons.

No natural disasters but you need to endure long cold & snowy winters. Personally, I’ll take 15 feet of snow over 8 months versus having to endure 1 major hurricane or earthquake. Any snow is moved fairly quickly off the roads as the infrastructure has been built to deal with the weather since it’s not anything “new”.

There are nearby places to go to for beauty - where I live is not one of them.

Economy is miserable but the housing is affordable - that is if you can tolerate the horrendous property taxes which equate to more than the principal/interest on your mortgage payment.

People are generally friendly and there are things to do, that is unless you want to hike mountains, swim in any major non-toxic bodies of water,etc…

Everything can be driven to locally within 30 - 45 minutes during peak rush hour traffic. 20-30 minutes not during rush hour. Of course these times can double during snow storms.

Been to many other places in the country and I’d be willing to try a few (Utah, Idaho, and some of the New England states) - especially if it meant employment versus nothing.
 
Chicago ~ LOVE it!!! Great restaurants, museums, theater, parks, the Lakefront, festivals in the summer, the CUBS who will go to the World Series this year, excellent public transportation, diverse ethnic neighborhoods with beautiful old Churches, and enough political corruption that there is never a boring news day.

I don’t live “in” the city - but I’m close enough to enjoy all it’s benefits. 👍
 
I am pretty happy here. The crime rate is deplorably high in this city, so if we stay here permanently, I’d like to be in one of the surrounding small towns. But the economy and cost of living are better than decent, our families are here, and there’s lots to do.

I’d like to give Arizona a try someday, if my hubby could find a good job there. We’ve been to Arkansas and LOVED it there, too.
 
I hate where I live (central NJ). My husband is finishing up a school program and as soon as he’s done we’re booking it back to my home town (suburbs of minneapolis, MN). MN is a great place to raise a family.👍

I loved living in NJ (west central, small town). I’ll trade you.
 
I love the small city I live in, but I wish it was in a different state.

What I like about my city: (1) big enough for lower cost stores (Costco, Ross, Walmart) to be interested in having store in, but small enough you know many people that live in the city (50,000 residents), (2) significant percentage of residents are Catholic (25%), (4) politically moderately conservative (3) surrounded by farms, and (4) driving distance to a big city (about 20 miles).

I am hoping we can find a place like this in a moderately conservative state when my husband retires.
 
Yeah I think I would like MN but my wife won’t let us move there due to fear of that “special” kind of cold.😉

Boston’s not so bad you only have to do what I call the “ninja” outfit a few times a year! (with all but your eye’s showing. . .

I don’t even wear a coat here in NC. Only a jacket if it gets below 40. No need for gloves or even a hat really. I never get to wear my steel toed “punk” boots as their is no snow. . .
 
Thanks to everyone who voted and responded. I found it very interesting to read what others had to say. I watched this thread and the polling results since I posted it three days ago. So far, it’s seemed to run consistently around 75% “yes” to 25% “no”. That is significantly different from what the article reports reseach showed, (although this isn’t a scientific sampling.)

I thought the results might be skewed since Catholic Answers is located near San Diego :tanning: but most of those who posted responses here are from other places :winter: .

I know the limited choice of only “yes” or “no” made it difficult for some of you to answer. I couldn’t even decide which way to vote on my own poll.😛 Every place has it’s pros and cons. There are things I really like about where I live, and there are things I dislike. I can’t say that I’d like to live elsewhere because if I moved I might like some aspects better, but I’d also miss the good things about where I live now. 🤷

I lived in NC for two months in the Summer and LOVED it. Unfortunately DH did not and got very homesick and that’s why I only lived there for two months…I was drug back kicking and screamin’, lol!
 
I love Florida!

Must confess I miss Chicago though-museums, zoos, dining, public transit…and a great population of Cub and Bear fans!!!
 
Grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Things got so crazy that we left. Spent 18 months in Iowa about 50 miles from the MN border. Put your winter boots on in November and didn’t take them off until March. Our first winter everybody was sure we’d high tail it back to CA 'cause it was 27 below for a week. We left and went to Ohio and it’s okay, but I wouldn’t mind moving somewhere a bit warmer. Unfortunately it seems like the warmer the state, the more tornadoes. I am scared to sleep during tornado season. The weather monitor goes off all night long during storms 😦 I just don’t really know where I’d go. Places like Arizona and New Mexico are too dry and hot. Other places too humid and too many tornadoes. Northeast is too expensive. So here we stay.
 
I am from upstate NY, and love it there…

However…Home is now Colorado…for every day it is cloudy in the North east, it is sunny here. It is beautiful. Winters are typically milder than NY winters. However, it does get windy.

I really like my small mountian town.

I like them though I am 33 and wearing them makes me feel younger! I used to have crazy hair color- even as an altar boy. One time when serving for the Bishop he said “it looks like you left the dye in a little bit long.”😛

I live in Rockford, IL one of the 25 most difficult places in the US to try to find a job. It is beautiful here in the “Forest City” but that don’t pay the bills! We had two car plants one of which was a GM plant that closed permanently and a Chrysler plant that is now down to one shift. So the unemployment office is crowded all the time. In my humble opinion there is one too many people in that office–ME!
