Well, it isn’t just Valentine’s Day, but mother’s day, my birthday and anniversaries too. All for the same reason: DH waits till the day of (sometimes on the way home from work on the evening of that day or on a cigarette errand) to pick up a card for the occasion and that’s it. He doesn’t put much if any thought into it, much less presenting any kind of gift.
I have actually posted an ongoing ‘good any time’ wish list for him in case he needs ideas, and I’ve mentioned to him that I have a wish list on Amazon, but he’s never given either of these any notice. He doesn’t even bother to either a) take me shopping to get what I want or b) give me the money (and time away from the house w/out the little ones) to go get something for myself. He doesn’t even plan to go out to dinner!!! If I ask him, he acts like ‘do I hafta?’ As if to say, isn’t the last-minute card enough? Jeez you’re so hard to please!
I love doing things for him and I will plan at least a month in advance, I’ll save up my spending money and buy him a gift. I will likely teach our children as they get older to put time and thought into doing something for daddy, but I will be very disappointed if he doesn’t teach them to do the same for me - he takes after his father in this I think.
