Do you NOT like Valentine's day?

Help me in my movement to refer to the Holy Day as “Saint Valentine’s Day”. Let’s not let the secular world steal or transform the true meaning of holidays/holy days.
I’m with you, and way ahead of you.

Sam, the Neon Orange Knight

I am hopeful about St. Valentines day. After all the greatest of gifts is love ❤️

When I was married, for almost 20 years, if I wanted a valentines gift or dinner, I had to buy it or go myself sigh. So I did not much really care for the day, because it kind of hurt.

Then I decided to make it a day for my daughter, myself and the Lord. That was ok.

Still, even though it became a day with my daughter and the Lord and I, I still wanted a special man to share it with. Who knows what my future has in store? So, I am hopeful for the future. 🙂

Valentines - the day I proposed to my wife 25 years & 4 children ago - of course I love it. And if I could figure out how to vote in the poll, I’d even vote that way !!

That’s incredibly awesome!

I sincerely look forward to making a certain day special by proposing. sigh…Maybe I’m just hopeful today because I happened to see a certain special someone 👍

I like Valentines Day and pretty much always have. It kind of sucks being single though. But anyway, it’s St. Valentine’s feast day so I suppose I should like it just for that sake.

There’s a huge chance I’ll be doing criminal law on the 14th. How’s that for romantic? 😛

I answered that I don’t care for it. How can I enjoy it when I always forget [or don’t have] the money to buy myself chocolates? About the only thing interesting about candy-oriented holidays [Valentine’s, Halloween, Easter, not in that order of course] is that their after-holiday sales make it cheaper to buy a fortune of them and enjoy getting sick off it from stuffing your craw. giggles

As far as romantic relationships are concerned, I am indifferent to it coz I never had a girlfriend. 😛

However, I think it could be an opportunity to show love to my family and spend time with God 😃

Even though it won’t be Valentine’s Day anymore…I ask…nay…BEG for prayers regarding my sinister plan on Sunday.

I am afraid that my expectations are too high…Even though I know that I’m not going to see instant results, (or perhaps any) I still think I may be disappointed if I don’t see anything…😦

Please pray for me

Yeah, didn’t you know? February 15th is Single’s Day, where all the poor miserable singles get to drown their woes in marked-down chocolates. 😃

I liked it when I was a young child and teen because my father gave us all Whitman Samplers. They would be waiting on the breakfast table, along with the big one for our mom. I liked making up the cards for classmates and especially for the teacher and taking home a bag of cards from school and looking through them, seeing the kids signatures. I also liked it when I worked with kids and did crafting for Valentine’s Day. I started disliking it personally when I had a long time boyfriend who didn’t give gifts or cards - at any time - and didn’t make a point to call on Valentine’s Day or even my birthday. Thank goodness he is gone, but I haven’t got a great guy to replace that. I used to turn off the TV when I would see commercials for Valentine’s Day. I actually got to the point where I was ignoring him first a couple of weeks before, just so I wouldn’t feel rejected and ignored on that special day. I think I might like Valentine’s Day if there was someone special, I mean really special, in my life who always treated me special. I wouldn’t want to go out, but getting roses and spending time together would be cool.

When I was working in retail, it was one of my more favorite times of year, people coming in the store and buying things to express their love. Parents buying cute packages of valentine’s cards for their children to give out. And it wasn’t a headache in the store like Christmas time was. I still do kind of like the fact that after the Christmas decorations and candies all leave, more red decorations and candy come out! It’s festive.

But, personally, as a culture, I think we have turned it into some kind of holiday for lovers only when it should be sweeter and meant for everyone. It’ s a good day to express love to your children, for example.

PS - I just realized, thinking about it, that I really, really enjoy St. Patrick’s Day more and they come around the same time of year. I think I’d rather have a Guiness and some corned beef and cabbage than a box of candy! Ha, ha.

Whilst I am absolutely delighted to honour St Valentine by attending Mass on his feast day, I have no time whatsoever for “Valentine’s Day”. It is totally inorganic to my culture, was never even heard of 30 years ago and has been introduced to my country wholely and solely through the advertising industry. We refer to it derisively as a Hallmark Feast. I do not mean in any way to criticise those who observe “Valentine’s Day” in cultures where it is an organic development. I just resent the advertising industry creating an occasion we’d never even heard of solely to sell merchandise and with no recognition of the real meaning of the feast day.

I fail to understand how people can complain that the economy is bad and no one can find jobs, yet then also complain about a growth industry.

As long as the Valentine’s Day companies are not selling porn or abortion, I see no problem with candy, flowers and cards.

Turns out I completely forgot today was IT. DH did not, which makes me feeeeeel baaaad. :crying:

…ugh…Its Valentine’s Day…

Not only that…but I’m bored…nothing to do but clean the house…
sigh and that’s pretty much done already…
Good grief…

Hey, St. Valentine is a martyr of the Church! Don’t ban his feast day! 👍

I remember that it was not fun to be single on Valentine’s Day. Here in Japan, we actually get the commercialized version TWICE. We get Valentine’s Day in February which is girls-give-to-guys only. Then we get “White Day” on 14 March, when the guys give back to the girls. And they give anything white, from white chocolate to marshmallows to diamonds to tissues. (If you get tissues it means the boy you gave chocolate to in February doesn’t like you; you will cry when you learn how little he feels for you–hence the tissues.)

Talk about not fun.

But if you think of it as St. Valentine’s Day, then you can use the opportunity to give something to someone who would not otherwise be thought of on this day.
Tissues, what a riot! What if the tissues were used because they laughed so hard they cried?

I’ve never liked Valentine’s Day. When you’re single and have always been single, it’s just another day.
It’s just another day for me this year, but I do know that in the days when I considered marriage might be the thing for me, then it could be very sad.

Well, how did today go…

I’m waiting…🍿
