For Valentine’s Day I got a gas leak in my furnace, and I had to evacuate my pets and go stay with my niece, where I am today. There is no heat in my house, it’s now Sunday, HVAC rates will be through the roof but I will have to pay anyway.

The only good thing was that ten lovely firemen came to my house last night!

Ok…NOW it happened…

I went to Mass…went up to the choir loft…and when I walked up to her, she looks at me in surprise and says “Hiiiiii” (The tone being with a hint of “Wow”)
“Surprise.” I said (Since I had teased it last week, and told her it was a surprise for her)

Then of course after Mass, her sisters complimented me on my tie…SHE said she likes the whole thing

Needless to say, even though my lips were totally dry (ugh) I think I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish…I impressed her and/or made her go weak at the knees.

I’m affraid, this year, I’ve found this whole Valentines thing a bit lost in purpose. I don’t want/have/need a valentine since I don’t think my vocation is in marriage… but today listening to someones perception of love it slightly scared me.

I was scared that so many people believe that love can only be romantic love. The greatest love we know is the love of Christ, which is pure and often incomprehensible.

I am glad it brings happiness within relationships before God… but I always think we ought not to forget: “God is love”.

Actually, God’s love is also a romantic love. God’s love is eros and agape.

Yeah, didn’t you know? February 15th is Single’s Day, where all the poor miserable singles get to drown their woes in marked-down chocolates.

No, I didn’t know. Great. I’m the last to know anything. Each town might as well replace their pool water with melted chocolate and advertise “Free Singles Swim: you will feel warm and love despite the cold, cruel weather in our heated chocolate pool. Consumption not advised.” That’s the goonies of the advertising industry, I tell you.

My birthday’s on the 13th, so I always experience one of three situations. I get something for St. Val’s, nothing for my b-day. I get nothing for St. Val’s, something for my b-day. I get nothing for my b-day, nothing for St. Val’s, so I typically buy myself [or make myself something if broke] something so I don’t feel left out. I do enjoy celebrating St. Valentine; he did a lot for Christians during the reign of Claudius II. Its just that I’m too used to St. Val’s secular side.
