at my parish church, the bells are rung from the church tower three times a day for the Angelus. but since the parish resides within a neighborhood, the morning call is at 800 am or 830 (i can’t remember), but then the bells ring at noon and then at 6pm…

i wonder if other parishes do that…

Angelus bells may be more common in the country. It is very sad that these bells are not rung everywhere. Also, I don’t much care for electronic bell-songs. I think they just ought to get a simple peal bell and yank the rope at the correct times. Put a human touch back in to things.

What do you know I came upon this thread at 11:58 AM. Just in time to pray at midday 🙂

I have set up recurring task on my computer with alarm reminders for various times of the day. This helps me know the time. I usually at least say an Our Father when the alarm goes off. Maybe I can search for the sound of church bells for my alarm sound.

Task Alarm time
Lauds 6:00AM
(Usually pray with my son when he wakes up)
Terce 9:00 AM
Sext 12:00 PM
None 3:00 PM
Vespers 6:00 PM
Compline 9:00 PM
Matins No Alarm

I would like to pray the liturgy of the hours, but I don’t have the books. I am at least trying to get in the habit of praying at the various times.

So to actually answer the question “Do you pray the Angelus”

I do now.

R: And dwelt among us.
In the 50s when I was in grade school we stood up along side our desks and and said the Angelus before being dismissed for lunch. When we got to the above phrases, we genuflected.

I try now to say it with my morning prayers.

Dear friend

Yes I pray the Angelus

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

I try to pray the Angelus three times a day. Additionally, since my CCD class begins at 6pm this year, I begin class with the prayer. I’m not sure the students appreciate it at this point, I only hope that I am planting a seed that will grow later in life.

I try to pray the Angelus three times a day. In the morning I pray it with the rest of my seminary before Holy Hour at 6:00 am, then we pray it at the caf when noon arives and then at 6:00 pm. I hadn’t heard about the Angelus before coming the the University of St. Thomas. It is also nice that UST rings the Angelus bells.
My seminary also does a Marian procession Thursdays which is a cool way to witness to the rest of the campus.

Our local Catholic radio station has the angelus thrice daily, read by local priests.

There are two seminarians who pray the Evening prayer, too.

It is so wonderful to be part of the Church at large when praying these and other prayers for certain times of the day. Helps one to appreciate the meaning of Catholic.

It is sad but true that my Barney catechism left me with no appreciation or introduction to the prayers of the church. Now I am kind of compulsive about reading prayers and quotes of the saints.

I am also trying to learn some ecclescial Latin.

My seminary just started praying it this year, and I love it.

I have an alarm that sounds like bells on my cell phone that goes off every day at noon to remind me. I try to say it at noon every day.

Pray for us, holy Mother of God.

Dear friends

Just an aside, when you do pray the Angelus, if you are not familiar, please remember to go on one knee when you pray the part,…

’ and the word was made flesh’ you are to stand back up after this has been said

This is in reverence to Jesus in the prayer

If you are infirm or for some other reason are not able to, do not worry but otherwise, this is important to remember to do

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa

Wow! I agree! As a returning Catholic, working through irregular marital condition, I have drawn close to Our Lady. I pray the Angelus and I pray it with my kids, who have been raised Methodist and are still Methodist. It is a way of sharing our Catholic Culture. I always feel Our Lords Grace and Her intercession when I pray it.*

It is sad but true that my Barney catechism left me with no appreciation or introduction to the prayers of the church.

What a mouthful! We have some much treasure in our Church and we swap it out for cheesey christian bookstore porridge.

Now I am kind of compulsive about reading prayers and quotes of the saints.

God is calling us I think and the Church Triumphant is placing the call.

Me too! I have all these little prayer cards. Must be a Catholic thing. My daughter loves to read the Anima Christi in Latin.

I am also trying to learn some ecclescial Latin

I switched to Spanish. We need the faith, piety and love of Mary and the Eucharist of our immigrant hermosas y hermanos to save the American Church, which of its own will become a new age version of Bishop Spongs’ Apostate New Age PC Episcopalianism if left to its own drift.

What date do we begin saying the Regina Coeli in place of the Angelus this year?

Regina Coeli is prayed in place of the Angelus during Easter season and traditionally is prayed also at 6 am, noon, and 6 pm, and int he standing posture. 🙂

At a Catholic summer school I was at a month ago, they said the Angelus before lunch every day so I’ve taken up trying to say the Angelus at noon now I’m back home.

I was brought up to genuflect at the mention of the Incarnation but at this summer school no-one else was doing it. I confess, after the first few times I stopped genuflecting. I probably should have just kept doing it, despite feeling very awkward.

I pray the Angelus at least once a day. Though I am working up to 3 times a day.👍

Are you supposed to say it during lent as well? Or is there a different one?

Reading this thread it has reminded me of the things that we as Catholics have lost or forgotten over the years. I have a neighbor who has lived in this neighborhood for over 50 years and she tells me stories of when you could hear our local Catholic church ring the Angelus bells. Almost every Catholic stopped what they were doing and prayed the Angelus. The bells have been silenced now going on at least 15 or more years. I think Islam has different prayer times that every Muslim must pray. It is no wonder that the Muslim faith is growing so fast. We as Catholics must bring back these wonderful holy traditions and pass them on to our children. Right now the Catholic Church is just a shell, a remnant of what it once was. It is our time to reclaim what is rightfully ours. Pray the Angelus! :gopray:
